Chapter 4 - Smoldering Memories

Tucking the kids in after a boisterous dinner, Blake sat next to his office window, looking out while observing the mechanical moon that shone from above.

"It's been 10 years huh…" Blake reminisced to the times where he was still serving in the centralized armed forces. "I wonder how they're faring up there."

His last assignment before he broke off and vanished dealt with the moon. The subsequent actions and events caused mass destruction of the moon, requiring extreme terraforming to repair the moon.

Currently, related parties have repaired about 68% of all damage the moon accrued. Related wildlife that depended on the moon have also begun recovering.

Potency and efficacy of spells and cultivation relying on the moon have also returned to normal levels.

Soon, a notification broke his line of thought as he turned his attention to the old phone laying near the top of the shelf.

"So now you decide to call." Blake scoffed as he reached up and grabbed the ringing phone.

Looking at the contact, a troubled look briefly appears on his face before he flips it open and answers.

"..."

Silence, along with the faint sound of breathing came through the speaker. As if they too had a hard time speaking the words that were running through their head.

Steeling his nerves, Blake was the first to break the awkward silence.

"Yo, long time no talk." He opened up, with a wry smile creeping onto his face.

"..."

Still silent, Blake slowly shook his head as he continued.

"While I would love to meet you face to face, both of us know that it's never going to happen, not after what I did." Blake paused as he organized his thoughts. "I need some help."

"..!"

A sharp gasp of breath echoed through the speaker.

Blake smiled, knowing that they would put all their attention into what he was about to say.

"I have three kids."

Another sharp gasp could be heard.

"Picked them up from an accident." Blake ignored the reaction and continued. "Found traces of experimentation on them, also discovered their extreme inhuman talents."

Taking a pause here to drink some water, Blake slowly continued, this time, a hint of rage could be heard in his voice.

"Remnants of THAT corporation have started to show up. Or someone managed to get their hands on the data that I told the central armed forces to delete."

Blake stopped here, expecting a response by now, but was met by more silence. Looking at the old phone, Blake saw that he was still connected and that nothing had interrupted the call.

"I'm not blaming you for what the CFA failed to do. I just need help creating identities for these kids. Once you're done, send them to the address I'm going to send you. Don't bother trying to track me down through this. You of all people should know that I have my ways."

Looking at the clock, with the time almost hitting 12 AM, Blake decided that it was time to end the call.

"It's getting late here, have to tuck the kids in. Once you're done with the identities, do what you can to investigate all the major corporations. At least one of them should be related to these kids. Just let me know the next time I contact you. Good night."

"Blak-"

As soon as the other party called out, Blake ended the call, sent over the information, and turned the phone off.

He then returned the phone to the box he dug it out from and put it back on top of the shelf.

[Sorry, a couple lies and deceit here and there is required. Until I get more information, this is the extent of what our first reunion will be.] Blake thought silently as he stared at the box.

Stifling a yawn, Blake turned off lights in the dining room before crashing onto the makeshift bed in his office, now that his own bedroom was taken over by the kids.

[I know I described them as inhuman talents, but I need to figure out to what extent their talent reaches. And it won't hurt giving them a head start in their studies.] Blake thought as he looked up from his bed.

Making a list of things to get for the kids, the lull of sleep took hold of him and the house went silent, with the only noise coming from the faint hum from the climate control system.

"That's a lot of books." The shopkeeper noted as he made small talk with Blake. "Your kids are starting to come of age?"

"Yup, something like that." Blake responded as he put more books onto the checkout belt. "The little brats haven't decided what they want to do, so might as well get everything to figure that out."

"I feel ya there. My own kid couldn't figure out if he wanted to inherit the store or begin dedicated studies." The shopkeeper related to Blake as he scanned all the items. "This is your total. Along with a 5% discount. On the house."

"Really?!?" Blake gasped with shock. "Thanks a bunch!"

Waving goodbye to the shopkeeper, Blake practically started running once he turned the corner, out of sight from the shopkeeper.

[Man that guy loved to talk. Guess this shop is off limits.] Blake thought to himself as he carried all the materials back home.

Along the way, he decided to also pick up some burgers and introduce the kids to the amber poison that was fast food.

Something that he would deeply regret in the far future.

When he returned home and opened the door, he was immediately swarmed by the trio, all excited to see him again. Acting like it's been forever since he was gone.

"Oof!" Blake recoiled backwards as he caught the kids before picking them up and tossing them back into the house. "Alright alright! Calm down!"

As he walked in, the kids were running in circles around him before they noticed all the things he brought once he put them down onto the dinner table.

"If you want to see what I got for everyone, sit down on the couch." Blake announced as he watched everyone scramble over each other to the couch.

[I should get Solan started on some exercise and protein.] Blake thought as he watched him get pushed around by Noa and Ivy. [Eh, it'll be funny if I get them all strong I guess.]

Deciding on getting them all started on a proper workout routine. Blake started handing out the books and materials he bought earlier.

"Solan, these books and devices are for you to read and tinker with. Ivy!"

"Here!" A small cheery voice answered as the blue haired girl raised her hand.

"For you I have a general cultivation plan geared towards kids. Go ahead and practice that."

"Thanks daddy!"

Grimacing a little being called daddy, Blake shook it off before turning to Noa.

"And for little Noa, a couple magic books and a beginners grimoire. Study those and later on we can get you a wand or whatever casting device you want."

"Thank you Dad!" Noa answered with glee as her green vibrant hair shook with excitement.

"Now that everything is over, Time for lunch!" Blake announced before setting the bag full of burgers and fries onto the table. "I got burgers and fries for everyone to try out! Come and feast!"
