Cathrine stood her ground as Richard waited for a response. Her posture remained relaxed, but her eyes were sharp with warning. She did not bother to adjust her blazer or soften her tone. She knew her authority did not require theatrics.
"Doctor Emily is fully booked for the next two years," she said coolly. There was not a hint of apology in her voice.
Brad and Henry exchanged glances from the side of the reception desk, wisely choosing to remain silent. Ariel sat on a nearby chair with her legs crossed, pretending to be absorbed in her phone. Her attention never wavered, but she made it painfully clear that she would rather scroll through promotional emails than acknowledge Richard's presence.
Richard's perfect smile faltered. His hand rested casually on the desk, but tension betrayed him through the slight twitch of his jaw. He leaned forward, lowering his voice in an attempt at charm.
