"For heaven's sake, are you planning to camp out here forever?" Amelia's tone carried equal parts irritation and disbelief as she spotted Samuel once again perched neatly on the front steps of her new apartment building. His suit was immaculate despite the August humidity, his tie crisp, shoes polished to a mirror shine. He might as well have been posing for a brochure titled The Relentless Assistant.
After their abrupt exit from the hotel, an exit Amelia still hadn't fully processed, she had hoped for at least a few days to breathe, to let the dust settle while she and the triplets unpacked and figured out the quirks of their new place. She'd envisioned mornings without drama, evenings without corporate messengers shadowing her.
No such luck.
"Dr. Amelia." Samuel rose instantly, as though he were royalty arriving on the red carpet. He adjusted his tie, an unconscious tick she'd noticed the first time they met, and looked her directly in the eye with unwavering determination.
