Chapter 12 - ( 3 )

Detective Dani didn't expect that from Mr. Yasser. Being a father didn't justify breaking up friendships. It was true that mistakes had been made, but separating the two friends was the greatest mistake of all.

Mr. Yasser: "I know that, and I apologize."

Dani (turning his back as he was leaving): "No need to apologize. The blame lies with your children who you have wronged and torn apart."

Dani walked out of the office, unable to believe what he had heard. He had thought Rayan was the killer, but it turned out the real culprit was his closest friend, Yaman.

He was shocked. At that moment, memories flooded his mind—memories of Yaman from the very first moment he met him to the last conversation they had. He recalled every event, every conversation.

Leaving the office, darkness had fallen, rain began to pour, and thunder rumbled in the sky. Tears mixed with raindrops as Dani wandered aimlessly, bumping into people like a madman, not knowing what to say or do.

Then, his inner voice appeared, a shadowy figure speaking to him.

Inner Voice: "You're pathetic, Detective. You've been searching for the killer, but the truth was right in front of you all along. What are you waiting for? Go arrest him and reveal the truth to the world."

Dani (screaming, tears streaming): "I can't… He is Yaman, my friend. No, no, no!"

Inner Voice: "Are you still denying the truth? Or will you become a criminal yourself? You know that protecting a criminal makes you one of them."

Dani (covering his ears, shouting loudly): "No, no, no! Stop, please stop!"

Inner Voice: "Fine, I'll stop. But can you silence your conscience? Can you deceive your mind that refuses to lie? Wake up, Dani—you're a detective. Remember the oath you swore to reveal the truth. Remember who you are."

The apparition disappeared. Dani collapsed to the ground as the rain ceased.

He got up and whispered to himself, "I will do what every detective must do. The truth will come to light, no matter what."

The next day, Yaman, Lin, and Rayan planned to spend the evening outside.

Lin went to the hospital, saying she had to examine a patient and wouldn't be long.

Yayan and Rayan decided to wait for her upstairs and enjoy the clear sky and bright stars, just like they used to when they were kids climbing to the roof.

Rayan: "I'll go get some drinks and snacks for tonight."

Yaman: "Okay, I'll inform Lin we're up here so she won't worry. But hurry, Rayan, don't be late."

Rayan (laughing): "At your service."

Rayan headed down to a small shop near the hospital, while Yaman went to Lin's office to inform her.

Meanwhile, security personnel arrived, having received a photo of Yaman sent by Dani. They searched everywhere for him and questioned people around.

Yaman informed Lin and left her office, saying they were waiting upstairs.

One security guard saw Yaman climbing and alerted the others, suspecting he was trying to escape, so they followed him up.

At the rooftop, the guard shouted: "Stop! You're under arrest! Don't move or I'll shoot!"

Yaman (surprised): "What did I do, sir?"

Guard: "Enough games. Your crimes have been exposed."

Yaman was stunned, realizing his fate was sealed and he had no way out.

Dani arrived at the hospital and met Lin on his way, asking quickly where Yaman was.

Lin (fearful): "He's upstairs with Rayan, but what's going on?"

Without answering, Dani ran towards the roof. Lin rushed after him and was shocked to see Yaman standing with police officers aiming their guns at him.

Dani: "Yaman, calm down. We will sort everything out. Come on, I'm here to help you. Surrender and put your hands up."

Yaman (laughing): "I never thought this day would come. But you really surprised me, Dani. You proved you're smarter than me."

Dani: "Yaman, don't be rash. Stop talking and come with me. I promise I'll help you."

Lin (screaming): "What's happening? What are you two saying? My brother, what is this? Tell me!"

Tears flowed down her face.

Yaman (with tenderness and weakness): "Sister, forgive me. I wasn't a good brother to you. You even gave up your life for me. But it's okay now. You can live your life after I'm gone."

He looked at Dani and said: "You promised me you'd take care of my sister after I'm gone. Don't break your promise, friend."

Yaman climbed to the edge of the roof with police pointing guns at him.

Lin (shouting): "No, brother, don't do it!"

Dani: "Don't you dare, Yaman. I'm warning you."

Yaman turned and threw himself off the roof.

Suddenly, someone rushed from behind like the wind, grabbed Yaman's hand, and prevented him from falling. It was Rayan.

Rayan: "I told you when I came back that everything would be okay. I won't let you suffer anymore."

Yaman: "No, I'm the one who will stop your suffering. I've endured enough. We won't let you suffer again."

They looked at each other and smiled, holding hands.

Then Yaman pulled away and fell, looking at his friend, tears flowing from both.

Behind them, Dani and Lin ran towards him to find that Yaman had fallen.

Rayan shouted loudly, making the world hear: "Yaaaamaan! Yaaamaan! Yaaamaan!"

Lin fainted.

Dani sat beside her and saw Rayan talking to himself, saying: "No, no, no, you can't leave me. I won't let you go that easily. I won't leave you. I'm with you until the end."

Rayan stopped, then threw himself off the roof.

Behind him, Dani and security officers caught him.

Yaman's death was a tragedy for everyone.

---

Five years later

At the cemetery, Lin and Dani stood with a little boy holding a white flower, placing it on Yaman's grave.

Lin spoke to the grave: "Look, Yaman, little Yaman came to visit you today."

She looked at the boy and said: "Repeat after me when you grow up to be just like your uncle."

Dani: "I kept my promise, my friend. I hope you are happy wherever you are."

They spent some time at the cemetery and then left.

At night, under the rain, a man wearing a black jacket covering his face stood in front of the cemetery. Rain fell on him as he spoke to the grave:

"I know, my friend, that your death will not be in vain, and justice will truly be served."
