Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

"Help—please! Somebody, help me! She's gonna kill me!" The voice was shaky, ragged, echoing through the trees.

The Howlmoon patrolman froze in his tracks. His head whipped toward the sound, ears twitching sharp. One hand slid to the knife on his belt as his eyes searched the shadows. Then he spotted her.

A girl stumbled out of the trees. Barefoot. Shaking all over. She looked like she'd crawled through hell itself. Her hair was a mess, her skin smeared with dirt and blood. Her clothes were shredded, hanging off her like they'd been ripped apart in a fight. A cut bled above her brow, her lips were cracked, her shoulder clawed up, her thigh bleeding. She looked like she hadn't slept in days.

The patrolman blinked, thrown off for a second. His eyes flicked over her with infuriating ease. They lingered where her shirt had torn open, exposing her chest. He didn't even bother hiding how he stared.

"Shit," he muttered, stepping closer. "Hey—hey, stop right there. Who the hell are you? What happened?"

The girl flinched at his voice and stopped. Her lips trembled. "I—I'm sorry, please—I didn't mean to trespass. I was just running away.. I just—I didn't know where I was going."

"Running from what?"

Her voice cracked. "A witch. She—she killed a coven —somewhere near the ridge. She kill... killed them. Burned them alive. All of them. I...I ran before she saw me."

The patrolman raised a brow, eyes never leaving her. "And you saw all that?"

"I was just passing by," she said quickly. "I didn't mean to see it. I just... I ran."

Her eyes were wide with panic. Her fingers trembled as she clutched her side.

"I've been running for two days. Please. She'll find me if I stay out here. I... I think she chased me," she stammered.

He stepped closer, his gaze dropping to her legs, then sliding back up to her chest. "You a wolf? I can't smell a wolf on you," he said, licking his lips.

She nodded. "I am a lone wolf, but I'm latent. I had a pack but not anymore. They threw me out," the girl cried, biting her lips.

She swayed slightly, looking ready to collapse. Her eyes glistened with tears. "Please… just let me stay somewhere for the night. I won't cause trouble. I don't want to die out here."

He reached out, letting the back of his fingers graze her arm, moving seductively. The girl flinched a bit but didn't move. "Yeah, you do look like you need help."

"Come on," he said, hand gripping her wrist. "Let's go see what the alpha thinks."

The Pack house reeked of smoke, sweat, and lust. Wolves drank, laughed, and groped naked she-wolves like they were toys.

The alpha lounged in a leather chair with a half-naked girl in his lap. His mouth was on her neck, his hand all over her chest, the other gripping her side hard enough to make her hiss. His beta leaned on the wall with a drink, grinding into another girl who whimpered under him. Two enforcers sat close, drinking and laughing.

When the patrolman brought the girl in, the room went still as all eyes fell on the timid girl.

The alpha's gaze trailed over her, crawling over every inch of exposed skin. The beta chuckled, still moving lazily against the whimpering girl he was using. An enforcer leaned in to whisper to his buddy, both staring at her chest.

The girl hugged herself tight, shrinking like she wanted to disappear.

"She says she saw a dark witch take out a coven not far from here," the patrolman said with a mocking grin as he looked at the girl beside him. "Thinks she's being hunted."

"She does, huh?" The alpha shoved the girl off his lap and stood, circling her slow, eyes crawling over her.

"I didn't m-mean to bring trouble," she stammered. "I just… need a place to stay. One night."

The alpha circled around her enjoying her fear. "You think she's following you?"

"I don't know," the girl whispered. "She was powerful. I didn't look back."

"You don't smell like a fighter," the beta said, sipping his drink, finally pulling out of the whimpering girl. His eyes gleamed with lust. "More like a stray. A lucky stray."

The girl lowered her head further, making herself small. "Please. Just let me stay the night. I won't be a burden. I just want to live."

The alpha circled her, eyes dragging. "You're lucky we're generous."

"I didn't know where else to go," she whispered.

The alpha chuckled. "You think a witch would step into my territory? That she'd dare come here?"

The girl swallowed. "She might already be close."

"She won't dare-" Before he could finish, a scream ripped through the night outside.

Everyone in the room froze.

Another scream followed—then a crash. And with that—a low hum began creeping. Crawling into their bones.

The enforcer moved fast to the window. "Alpha—something's wrong."

Outside, chaos erupted. Wolves collapsed in the courtyard, writhing in agony. Some bled out. Some convulsed. One wolf exploded against the wall in a mist of blood and shattered bone. It was like the air was striking them.

"Shit. Alpha, we're under attack—something's ripping them apart!" the beta shouted.

The humming grew clearer—coming from behind them.

The patrolman turned to look at the girl, and his breath got caught.

"Alpha, look!" Everyone turned around and were shocked. Gone was the timid, sacred girl. In her place stood a cloaked figure, hood casting shadows over gleaming eyes. Her presence changed the air itself—cold, still, heavy. The hum rolled off her lips like a death song. Power pulsed from her now like a second heartbeat.

"Oh look," she said, her voice smooth like butter and cold like ice.

"The witch already found you."

The beta snarled and lunged forward, claws bared, the enforcers flanking him, but before they could close the distance, she lifted her hand, and they collapsed on the ground writhing in pain.

The beta screamed as his limbs twisted at unnatural angles. The enforcer's head snapped to the side with such force his neck tore open, spraying the floor with dark arterial bursts.

The patrolman—the fool who had dragged her here—stumbled back, hands raised. She didn't even look at him as his forearms folded backward, bone splitting through skin like wet paper.

And through it all, she walked, slow and untouched, like death on feet.

Only the alpha remained, paralyzed but then as if getting smacked to his senses, he ran.

Of course he did.

She followed, slow, savoring the chase. A sly smirk curved her lips. Bodies scattered across her path like broken toys. The night air was cool, grass whispering underfoot as he sprinted, panic loud and pathetic in every step.

He looked back to see if the witch was following and saw nothing. Relief flooded him as his pace slowed.

Then he turned forward—slamming straight into her, knocking the wind out of his lungs.

She stood inches away, the moon glinting off her pale hair, her face shadowed beneath the hood.

"You—what—who the hell are you?" he gasped.

She tilted her head, a mocking grin spreading. "Your doom."

Her hand rose, fingers curling, and he dropped to his knees instantly, choking, clutching his throat.

She stepped closer, crouched beside him like a predator watching its prey's last moments. She drove a dagger into his gut as he shrieked. The dagger disappeared inside him as blood-curdling screams tore from him.

She smiled, her silver-violet eyes gleaming. Leaning in—she whispered something into his ear, soft and subtle.

His breath hitched. His eyes glazed in a trance.

He nodded blankly.

Her fingers sketched a silent sigil in the air—one that shimmered for half a heartbeat before vanishing into his skin.

The Alpha broke into a run.

Slowly, she turned around only to find two young pups standing at the edge of the clearing. Their eyes were wide, their small bodies trembling as they stared at her. Her lips curved into a cold, predatory grin. She lifted a finger and pressed it against her mouth playfully shushing them.

The pups froze. Then, without a sound, they collapsed to the ground.

She rose from the ground and turned with that same grin, vanishing in thin air.
