Chapter 4 - [Lost Memories] Chapter 3

Gu You walked into the door of an inn, but was blocked by a clerk's hand. Looking at Gu You's attire, the clerk said haughtily, "Poor beggar, do you have money?"

"What do you want money for?" Gu You asked.

The clerk laughed out loud, "Your question is really interesting. Do you have money to pay for your stay here?"

Gu You handed over the two red magic crystals in his palm, which were already soaked with water, and said, "How long can this money stay?"

The shop assistant slowly lowered his head to look at Gu You's hand. When he saw the two red magic crystals in the palm of his hand, a glimmer of light suddenly flashed in his eyes. The haughty look vanished in an instant, and his stiffened back leaned forward slightly. "Sir, you can't judge a book by its cover," he said with a cheap laugh. May I ask what kind of room you would like?"

 "Whatever." Gu You replied.

Whatever? The clerk looked up at Gu You. Could it be that he was so preoccupied with his rudeness that he deliberately gave such an answer? The clerk quickly replied, "The old man is really good at telling jokes. Of course he wants a room of the number Tian. Please wait a moment. I'll do it for you right away. Please have a seat in the lobby first."

Gu You found a chair at random and sat down. The clerk had said so much that he couldn't understand much of it.

The clerk went to one side of the hall, where there was a long table. He placed two red magic crystals on the table and said to the man sitting on the inside of the table, "We haven't had such a rich man in a long time, and he's spent two hundred dollars at once."

The man snorted, peeked at Gu You, and said, "Rich man? I think he looks like a fool who knows nothing."

The clerk chuckled softly and said, "Who cares? Just get a room right away.

The man opened a chapter of the ticket, pulled open the drawer under the table and threw a red magic crystal into it, then put another red magic crystal in his pocket.

"What are you doing?" The clerk whispered.

The man handed the ticket to the clerk and said, "The room is ready, No. 7 Tian. Take him there. If he finds the money wrong, tell him it was my carelessness that made the mistake."

"Well... Not so good..." The clerk took the ticket.

"What's wrong?" The man pointed to his pocket and said, "These, we'll split it fifty-fifty."

The clerk hesitated for a moment and then gave a sly smile. He turned to Gu You and said respectfully, "Sir, your room has been opened. Do you need me to take you there now?" Having said that, he handed over the ticket. His hands trembled slightly, and a fine mist of sweat trickled down his forehead.

Gu You looked at the bill and said, "I have no pockets on my clothes. Please keep them for me. Now I'm tired and want to sleep."

"Ok, OK. Please follow me." The clerk heaved a sigh of relief. Indeed, the customer looked a bit like a fool.

Go upstairs, walk into the wide corridor, and make two turns. The shop assistant stopped outside a finely carved wooden door and opened it with the key in his hand.

Is this my room? Gu You asked.

"Yes, Sir. Would you like some snacks?"

"I'm hungry, I'd like some snacks."

"Ok, please wait a moment, we'll bring it to you soon."

Gu You walked into the room and the clerk closed the door for him.

The room was spacious, with a wide bed and a fine tea table surrounded by four chairs. Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, the sun had already sunk below the horizon.

Gu You lay down on the bed, pulled over the corner of the quilt to cover his chest, and his vision gradually blurred and dimmed.

Consciousness sank into the depths of darkness.

I don't know how long it was before a grayish-white figure appeared in the darkness. It seemed like a woman, dressed in a flowing white-grey robe, with her long black hair fluttering gently and blending into the surrounding darkness.

"Who are you?" Gu You wanted to ask but couldn't make a sound.

The woman's face could not be seen clearly. It seemed as if there was a layer of mist over her face that wouldn't disperse.

The figure drifted away and danced. Gu You wanted to chase after him, but he couldn't move. Just let the mysterious figure fade away. As the shadow was about to fall into the abyss of darkness, he heard her voice, soft but firm: "Gu You -- leave me alone -- go quickly --"

"Don't worry about me - hurry up -" the voice echoed in the abyss.

"Sir, Sir." The clerk nudged Gu You's slightly twitching body. Gu You suddenly sat up and knocked over the mace?

"Sir, are you okay?" The shop assistant asked Gu You worriedly as he picked up the snacks that had fallen beside the bed and on the floor.

Gu wiped his forehead with his hand, drenched in cold sweat. It was a dream, but who was the woman in the dream? Do you know her? Or is it a figure settled in memory, buried with the memory?

"Sir, are you okay?" " The clerk asked, and he picked up all the dropped pastries and put them on the plate.

"None... It's okay." Gu You looked at the plate, reached out and took a piece of pastry and stuffed it into his mouth.

The clerk hurriedly said, "You ordered the heart. It can't be eaten. Shall I have another plate for you?"

Gu You swallowed what was in his mouth and nodded.

The clerk pointed to the bedside, where a new piece of clothing was folded. He said, "Sir, your clothes are torn. We'll give you a new robe." The robe, of course, was not given by the inn. It was bought by the clerk, feeling a bit embarrassed after receiving the spoils, from the clothing shop across the street.

"Thank you." Gu You cupped up the robe and looked at it.

The clerk smiled slightly and left the room.

"Leave me alone -- hurry up --" the words of the woman in the dream still lingered in my ears. He slowly took off his tattered clothes and changed into a white robe.

 "Hurry up --"

What exactly is that strange dream trying to convey to itself?

Downstairs, more than ten knights of light jumped off their warhorses and entered the hotel lobby. In the lobby, many of the guests were still having dinner. For the sudden arrival of the knights, they just stole a few glances and returned to their own world. In the city of the gods, it is perfectly normal for the Knights of Light, as guardians of the holy city, to see them.

"May I ask what you need?" The man sitting inside the table stood up, half-bent and asked.

The leading knight did not answer immediately but scanned the hall first. After confirming that there was no one he was looking for, he asked the man in a low voice, "Is there a white-haired man who has moved in?"

"Yes, yes. It's in Room Tianzi No. 7." The man said, reaching out his hand and calling the clerk who was about to go upstairs.

The clerk placed the new pastries on the table and asked, "What's wrong?"

The man said, "Take these old men to that fool."

What happened? The clerk gave the rider a puzzled look.

"Don't ask what you shouldn't ask." The knight at the head answered instead of the man, "Quick, take us to find that man."

The shop assistant nodded and went upstairs without even taking the snacks.

The quiet corridor was suddenly filled with a jumble of footsteps. The clattering of the ironware reverberated through the corridor, lingering for a long time.

The clerk went to the door of Tianzi Room 7 and whispered, "This is it."

The leading knight drew his sword from his waist and made a gesture to the knight behind him. All the knights drew their swords, forming a half-encirclement outside the door, with their swords all pointing towards the door.

The shop assistant, with a few streaks of sweat on his side face, stepped back behind the leading knight, wondering how the guests inside could have offended them. So many people, so many swords, it would be hard to escape through the aisle even with wings.

One of the knights stepped forward and kicked the door open with a heavy kick.

The empty room, with its lights flickering slightly.

The leading knight turned around, grabbed the clerk by the collar and shouted in a low voice, "Didn't you say he was here? Could it be that one of you tipped him off?"

"No... No." The clerk was almost scared to tears. "How dare we shield the enemies of the Knights of Light? I'm not lying. He was sleeping inside just now and I was about to bring him some snacks."

The knight let go of the clerk, pushed his way through the crowd and went straight into the room. The clerk hurriedly followed behind.

The bed sheet was in a mess and there was a torn piece of clothing on the floor beside the bed. The knight went to the floor-to-ceiling window and, with his sword, lifted the white gauze curtain that was fluttering in the wind. Outside the window was a secluded alley, not a glimmer of light.

"He's escaped from here. Let's go." The knight said and strode out of the room.

Though it was already night, the streets of Wangshen were still brightly lit and bustling with people. Two red lanterns hung on the door beams of the clothing shops, casting a bright red glow on the wooden signboards.

After seeing off a group of customers, the shop owner smiled and was about to walk back into the shop when he noticed a tall white figure leaning against the door all the time. The man's face was hidden in the shade of his robe and hood and was not visible. But the boss recognized that it was the one being sold today.

The boss said to the man, "This robe was bought for you by the staff of the hotel across the street from me an hour ago. It's not bad. It fits quite well."

"Yes." The other person's gaze remained fixed on the door of the inn, and the reply was just a perfunctory response.

The boss smiled and went into the inn.

On the other side of the street, a dozen or so riders who had just entered came out again. Without saying a word, they mounted their warhorses, charged through the crowd and left.

Gu You pulled down the brim of his hat, crossed the street and entered the inn lobby.

"Sir, may I ask what you need?" It was still the shop assistant, but there was still a lingering ripple in his voice as he spoke.

Gu You put down his hood and said, "It's me. Are those people looking for me?"

"No, they do routine checks, once a week," said the clerk. You must be hungry, Sir. Please sit down for a while. I'll ask the kitchen to get you something to eat."

Gu You chose a seat and sat down, leaning against the high back of the chair and waiting. I was really hungry after a tiring day and having just jumped down from the second floor and run back. I was still thinking about that strange dream and had no intention of paying attention to any danger around me.

"Who is she? What does she want to tell me?" He said to himself.

Dinner has not yet come, but the knight has returned. When all the riders entered the hall, Gu You realized that he had been tricked by the shop assistants. He followed the leading knight and glared at Gu You in a creepy way. It turned out that he was not going to call the kitchen to prepare dinner, but to inform the knights who pretended to leave but were hiding around. They had planned it.

The knights drew their swords, pushed aside the tables and chairs that blocked them, and surrounded Gu You.

The passengers who were still eating quickly threw down their utensils and retreated to the safe side of the hall. They were afraid, yet they couldn't bear to miss such a spectacle.

"What are you doing?" "Gu You asked coldly, slowly standing up and grasping the back of the chair with one hand.

The leading knight took the round shield handed over by his subordinate and said, "I think you know better than we do what's going on."

Gu You saw that there was a rider behind him who was not wearing a helmet, presumably with several layers of blood-stained gauze wrapped around his head. The rider came forward and said to the leader, "Commander, that's him."

"I heard that you are the murderer of the Red Robe Bishop, right?" " Commendatore said. He is the new leader because the body of the previous leader was found by the knights in the suburbs a few days ago. There was a broken sword stuck in the commander's throat, and blood spread all over the ground, a horrifying sight. Of course, they did not know that it was this white-haired man who had killed their old commander.

"I don't know who the Red-robed bishop is. I didn't kill him." Gu You defended himself.

The commander sneered and said in his heart, "I don't care if you're the real culprit. I'll just take you back to report." Who told you to take the blame for injuring my man, as a reward for us.

"I really did not kill the Red Robe Bishop."

"This is not the court. If you need a defense, come back with us and go to the court to defend yourself." Though he said this, the commander knew, of course, that as long as he and his knights confirmed that the white-haired man was the murderer of the bishop, the other party would have no chance to defend himself in court and would be sentenced to death directly.

"I won't go back with you." Gu You said. Though he did not know what a court was, he knew that for a knight who could only use a sword and a gun, a momentary submission was nothing but a death.

"Well, you are resisting arrest." "The commander raised his sword hand," said the commander, "Knight of Light, take command and arrest the mastermind who killed the Red-robed bishop. If you resist, you will be killed without mercy."

The knights' encirclement began to shrink.

A knight approached Gu You and thrust with his long sword. Gu You dodged the blade, raised his seat high and threw it down with force. The knight quickly raised his shield to defend himself. The seat was smashed into countless pieces on the round shield, and the rider was crushed to the ground by the powerful impact.

A few more swords came, and Gu You turned to the side of the table and dodged. The wooden strip table was instantly dismembered and collapsed by the long sword. Gu You picked up two table legs from the ground and held one in each hand. Another round of sword light came, Gu You could not dodge in time, and he used a stick to block it. The beam of the sword cut the stick into several pieces.

Some of the audience clapped their hands in approval.

All the knights cooperated to attack, Gu You could not find a chance to counterattack, so he kept dodging and was almost cornered by the knights. Gu backed away and suddenly grabbed the last chair beside him and swept it across. One of the riders failed to defend himself and was hit on the head, losing his balance and leaning over the other rider.

Gu You made a reverse turn and the chair drew a circle around his body. The quick rider stepped back to dodge, but still two riders' heads were smitten.

Just as the knights were about to launch a new round of attack, Gu You had already thrown down his broken chair and charged forward. A knight's helmet was dented by a stick, and Gu snatched his sword before he fell. Then Gu dodged the blade, and the sword in his hand pierced the right wrist of the nearest knight like the wind.

The knight's formation was completely disrupted.

Gu You struck a knight's kneecap with a hard stick, then snatched his helmet and knocked him to the ground with it. Then there were two muffled thuds, and two more riders were knocked down by the already deformed helmets.

The remaining few knights attacked haphazardly and were then knocked to the ground by Gu You in the chaos.

The riders' bodies fell all over the ground, some were already fainting, and some were still groaning over their wounds. The knight commander, who had been standing aside all along, remained silent. Although the helmet covered most of his face, the onlookers could still imagine his pale face. So many knights, as guardians of the gods, were defeated by one man. Bodies all over the ground, shields and long swords scattered all over the ground, looking disheveled.

The knight commander took a step forward, trying to save some face for his troops, but he was not sure of victory.

"Back off, new master." A soft woman's voice broke the deadlock, and all eyes turned to the direction of the voice coming through the gate.

By the door, a young woman was standing quietly. She was dressed in a pale blue robe, with long black hair flowing freely behind her. There was no expression on her delicate fair face, looking beautiful but cold.

"Miss Prison Slave..." The commander's voice became faint. It seemed that the woman was someone she respected. And in front of someone she respects, she loses all her face.

"Leave it to me." The prison slave said, and no one saw her move, but she walked up to the knight commander.

Gu You looked into her beautiful, clear eyes and did not move.

The sound of the sword neighed, and the prison slave stood before Gu You, his slender hand raised, and the silver sword in his hand curved back and forth like a long snake. The sword rested lightly on the side of Gu You's neck, as cold as ice and snow. Gu You's white pupils were fixed on the prisoner's clear and transparent eyes, as if his gaze and expression were frozen.

"Who are you?" The prison slave was curious about Gu You's white pupils.

"You... Yes... Who?" Gu You said stiffly.

Neurotic. The jailer cursed in his heart and then said to the regimental commander, "Arrest him."

The knight put his sword away and came over. Just as he was about to reach out and catch Gu You on the shoulder, Gu You, like a madman, raised his fist and hit him on the forehead. The commander took several steps back, his eyes filled only with the profusion of golden flowers blooming. He covered his head and shouted at the knights on the ground, "No one is dead. Get up quickly."

Another group of people chuckled in the crowd.

Knightly felt that he had lost face at home. In full view of the crowd, he was not even as good as a little girl.

The jailer held back his laughter and said to the knight, "This man is a dangerous person."

"I must kill him," he said. "Commendatore said.

"No, don't fight for now. "Arrest him, lock him up for a few days, no interrogation, no torture, I have my own arrangements." "The prisoner said indifferently. Gu You suddenly realized that she was speaking to him.

"Who are you?" Gu You asked again. For some reason, he felt that the woman before him gave him a sense of deja vu. Although she was in the same gang as those obnoxious knights, he felt that she wasn't a bad person.

"Take it away." The prison slave did not answer but ordered the knight. Then Gu You felt as if something had hit the back of his head, and his gaze dropped sharply.
