Chapter 1 - A BLISSFUL START

From a lacking background came out Peter , a vibrant, smart and future promising boy.

Peter has both his parents and five elder brothers. Ofcourse Peter is the last child of his parents. His mother is a very petty trader while his Father a small scale farmer.

Amongst his siblings, he is the smartest and the most intelligent of them all. He specifically started reading fluently at the age of three, graduated to basic two at the age of four, made friends with his senior colleagues and beat them to the best of their abilities academically.

Peter's eldest brother is a very unserious fellow, unlike Peter, he disgraces his entire being by being a tout and not doing anything meaningful with his time, Peter's second brother is an average student, polite and cool headed. Peter's other two brothers have long been with his mother's elder sister, they live with her.

Peter continually grew in grace, flourishing academically while he became prideful he grew. Though honest and vocal, peter had cold ways of conversing with his counterparts making them feel dumber than they ever thought.

Well, Peter did help his classmates, taught many of his friends who swallowed their pride and came to him for answers, he was loved by many girls and others.

He had few friends though many wanted to be friends with him. When Peter got to basic five, he represented his school in a national competition. A quiz competition that requires brainiac students only, highly competitive, Peter's school never stood the chance not even once before but this time, the school proprietor decided to give it a try by pushing Peter to lead the floor. Peter as usual wasn't perturbed, he prepared along side with Master Josh his mathematics teacher. Mater Josh prepared Peter for this competition for two weeks while working with other subject teachers, the competition was meant to hold for a week. After two weeks of preparation, the D- day finally came, his friends and classmates hurriedly wished him good luck as he would be the school representative for the very first time for that particular competition. Seeing how anxious all his teachers and the school proprietor were, Peter let fear grip his heart for the very first time, his confidence level drastically dropped, he thought to himself maybe this quiz competition is highly competitive after all and I might even get kicked out by students better than I at this rate. He asked Master Josh, why are you all this anxious, you are making me feel less confident, Master Josh answered and said, this quiz competition comes once in a while and our school has never participated before because of its demands. Peter looked at Master Josh and then said, do you think I will be competing with students better than I?, Master Josh smirked a little and then said , I believe in you no matter what Peter, I believe in you. This statement by Master Josh triggered something in Peter, this time around, he let go of his fears and decided he would face this reality facing him.

The environment of the quiz was a very conducive one, no drama, brimming seriousness, casting shadows of intimidating silence. Master Josh quietly said to Peter, you see other pupils? How comforted they are , sitting quietly and focused? Do same, don't be intimidated by them, you are better than them do you understand me? Peter nodded his head in correspondence to his teacher. Peter went to sit at the pupils stand.

Soon the quiz committee all came in, and the competition was about to start. Peter looked at his right hand side, he saw groups of students wanting to represent their schools variously, he asked a boy named Kenneth, please, are you also in Basic five? Kenneth looked at him, raised a brow and with a disgusting countenance scanned Peter from head to toe and then bursted out laughing, Kenneth's classmates also joined him in laughing at Peter.

Peter was surprised and confused at the same time, why are they all laughing he said to himself, did I ask a wrong question or is my manner of approach wrong?, ofcourse he got no answer to the questions in his head. Apparently, Peter's school is the only public school pulled in into the quiz competition plus it's a school only for poor kids. These pupil's know all these that is why they treat kids like him like outcasts.

Though Peter felt bad because of what happened but he had to focus on the exact reason he was there. The competition commenced and it was a tough one. Peter got almost of his questions correctly beating the rest of his counterparts hands down that day. Peter went home rejoicing. At least I have a weapon I can fight back with amd that's my brain. His teachers and proprietor were happy and this competition commenced and ended in a week.

As usual, Peter took the spotlight, and for the very first time, a poor public school pupil got the most points representing his school, emerging the winner thereby getting a mouth watery perk by the state and national body of the committee. Peter got a scholarship to study in one of the most prestigious high school in the state and a cash prize of two million naira from the Quiz competition committee at the national level. Peter jumped for joy, he couldn't believe his ears, I mean, who doesn't know King's college in this whole country, so I will be able to attend a prestigious private school in this life I am living?, am I not a lucky one? Peter said in his heart. His teachers and proprietor were very happy, his friends and the entire school jubilated, he became even more popular than he was and this time, more kids were enrolled in his school because of him.

Peter became the talk of the town, a model child every child should look up to I'm his community, his parents became proud parents and his siblings celebrated him.
