Li Xinyi is munching on her favourite food waffle, while chatting with her bestie, Wen Qing. But despite the familiar sweetness and laughter, a sharp weight pressed against her skin — the unmistakable feeling of someone watching her.
She scanned across the room, and her eyes met with a pair of cold, deep eyes across the room. Zhao Yichen stood near the window, his gaze locked on Li Xinyi with an unreadable expression
Li Xinyi forced a smile and continued eating her favourites, ignoring the unease.
Suddenly, nausea hit her. She barely made it to the washroom before retching violently, emptying the contents of her stomach. Wen Qing stood just outside the door, her worry growing with every second.
Li Xinyi stood against the cold sink, trying to steady her breath. She knew she was not nauseous due to nervousness but due to three fragile lives growing inside her.
No one here knew. Not yet. Not until she was ready.
Xinyi stepped out of the washroom with a pale face.
Wen Qing's eyes widened with concern, "Are you okay? You look awful. Let's go to the hospital."
Xinyi shook her head gently. "I need to go home … and lie down for a while."
They returned to the hall, and Li Xinyi felt it again; someone was watching her. Her eyes scanned the room and locked with his cold, deep, and unreadable eyes. At that moment, she knew he recognized her.
She panicked for a moment and said, "Let's go back". She dragged Wen Qing straight to the parking lot and got into the car, leaving no room for questions from Wen Qing.
"He recognized me… But why am I so nervous? It was just a one-night stand with no strings attached," she muttered to herself in a low voice.
Across the hall, Zhao Yichen stood still, his eyes following the car as it disappeared into the rain.
It was her. No doubt.
And just like before… she ran away…
