Chapter 4 - 4. Taking Leave

Ben had spent more or less the next ten minutes trying out different commands to see if they worked in this version of Grand Recordia.

Most did not work, with examples being 'Settings', 'Contact Admin', 'Teleport Home', 'Friend's List' and 'Suicide'.

The last command was definitely a risky command to call out, but in the original game, inputting Suicide would provide the player a second chance prompt as they're set to a single health point, with ten seconds of grace to let them heal themselves back up if this was a hasty mistake before killing them.

The only other command that did work out of the handful he had tried was 'Inventory'.

Within his inventory, Ben found the original stash of his character, with an absurd amount of currency (Recots), near limitless reagents, a ridiculous number of unused fireworks, high-level healing potions and as well high-level mana potions. There were also many original clothing items within his inventory, with the select few that he had on already equipped.

His hooded white coat that he was wearing was the skin of a Mythic White Dragon, named [Divine Dragon Coat], it was tailored to appear as the garment he was wearing. It had incredible stats that boosted mana and healing, the garment itself was EX tier.

For his black cuirass, named [Black Aegis], it was one of the few pieces of plate armor in the game that magic-users could wear, it being forged-plate of Black Mithril, an extremely rare form of Mithril that emphasized magical defense over physical and also boosted total mana, it was tiered at EX.

As for his pants named [Serpent King's Hide], they were retailored Primordial Basilisk scales, strange cloth that has the consistency of silk but the impenetrable defense of chainmail. Its stats weren't as astounding as the [Divine Dragon Coat] and the [Black Aegis], but it instead specialized in providing the user a high evasion change and inherited immunity to petrification; Ben had worn it as a precaution for the Chaos Temple as Petrification was one of the major spells that Yaldabaoth and the Black Revenants used, one of the few non-death related spells they had in their spell choice, also an EX tier item.

For his black boots, they were in-fact sandals retailored to appear as black boots, named [Sinless Devotion], they gave absolutely zero magical or physical defense in return for an immense mana boost with a percentage dump of 10%; it was of course, EX tier.

Last, but not least, was the most garish vanity he was wearing-- his halo, it wasn't retailored unlike all the other pieces he was wearing.

Ben grabbed his halo off of his head, it had a magnetic-like pull when held, it was warm to the touch.

Out of all the items he wore, the halo, or it's true name, [Recordia's Covenant], was a UNIQUE tiered item.

Ben shook as he held the item, biting his lip as he did.

This is...

As for its stats, it had none; it existed only for vanity.

...so embarrassing!

Even though it's UNIQUE tier, it's just garbage I spent my precious single-use ticket for in that event early on in the game!

Ben tried to throw the halo to the ground, but as he did, it simply returned back to above his head with a magnetic click.

Slumping to his knees, Ben shook with further embarrassment. He had gotten this item out of a pool of high-tier items, choosing it for its looks instead of picking any of the superior items that were in the list.

Grrghh... I was such a dork back then!

I'm way too handsome and I'm dressed like I had searched up 'how to be cool and mysterious as an angel' online! --

Ben felt revolted by his past self's fashion choices, he couldn't help but wince.

Ugh, I need to figure out where the heck I am, I can't just keep hanging around here.

He looked around from where he was, the flowers seemed endless out of the horizon line. But as he looked up at the sky, he focused on the complete lack of any clouds and the interesting detail of the sun looking a little too bright.

Wait, am I high up?

It would explain the lack of clouds, and why the sun looks a bit closer than usual.

Unlike most other MMORPGs, the developers for the game weren't trying to reinvent the wheel and include two suns or turn the moon green to show it was a different world. They let the world speak for itself; therefore, the day and night cycle were kept largely realistic looking.

Maybe I should just start walking and see if there's an edge to this flower field.

Wait, if Ailment Resistance had automatically activated earlier... then maybe...

Ben stood still as he relaxed himself, fixing his posture as he looked up.

Okay, here goes nothing!

"[Angelic Flight]!"

T-This...!

Ben felt something begin to sprout from his back, between his shoulder blades.

It was an intense pressure, but he immediately recognized the form of it as he saw it expand past his body.

Twin white feathered wings had unfurled from out of his back. They were massive in size; it measured at least 10 foot per wing with a combined wingspan of 20 feet. The pressure they gave off sent a shockwave of air from him, creating a gust that rippled the flower field all around him.

This feels so weird! Ben thought as he could feel the wings as extensions of himself, they felt like limbs.

[Angelic Flight EX] is a type of flight healers can choose as a special skill. It's considered worse compared to other forms of flight, such as simply [Flight], which allows the player to levitate at will. But Ben had chosen it to fit his Angelic-look he had built himself around to look like, even if it was generally considered inferior.

But that was the last thing in Ben's mind as he felt the power of the wings for himself firsthand.

O-Okay, they always say stuff like this is like riding a bicycle... except, I was using my keyboard keys then and not my actual body.

Just flap, juuust... flap!

As Ben flapped his wings, he skyrocketed out from the patch of flowers he was standing from, reaching an astounding 50ft in the air within mere seconds.

Holy craaaaap!!

Ben saw the flower field from this height; it looked stunning in its grandiosity as it ran towards the horizon at all corners.

Just got to remember to flap!

To maintain a hovering position, Ben only had to flap once every 10 seconds, as the lift of the wings was magic induced more so than physical.

He looked around and thought of where he could go. There were no signifiers anywhere that could help him indicate a possible exit.

Hmm, maybe I should just follow the sun? Ben thought as he looked skyward, the sun was beginning to slowly set.

Like the real world, the Sun sets west in the game.

Okay, I made it up here, let's now just--

With a single flap facing the sun, Ben accelerated at an impossible speed, causing an explosive sonic boom to occur.

TOO FAAAST!!! Ben was soaring past the flower field as its color began to blur into a mosaic.

Instead of a majestic pose as he soared, Ben instead had his arms dangling to the side like a ragdoll as the G-force of the flight put pressure on his body.

He continued to fly at this incredulous speed, covering land at a rate likely never been accomplished in this fantastical world.

It didn't take long for the flower field to finally end as Ben discovered the edge of it.

And as for his deduction, he was right.

He was high up.

What the hell!?

The flower field was in the shape of a large flat plateau, it ended in a sudden drop off of a large, white tower overlooking a beautiful, green landscape parallel to a sparkling blue coast. The landscape was beyond gorgeous, with a gargantuan forest canopy of lush green and mountain lines full of stellar foliage and outcrops.

Planted between all of this was the white tower that supported the plateau of flowers that Ben had woken up in. It rose high up above all of it, even above the clouds that Ben could now see.

He finally managed to stop himself as he throttled his speed a couple hundred of meters from the tower, he was able to get a good look at it now.

He had never seen such a structure like it before in Grand Recordia, both with its design and the location it was in.

Ben wished he could open his 'Map', but that command also failed when he tried calling for it earlier.

This makes no sense, something like this shouldn't exist in the game.

Maybe it was added in a secret patch? But how? I would've for sure known, I was too meticulous to not have!

The enigma of the tower only further confused Ben of his already extremely reluctant acceptance that this was Grand Recordia.

And the shock of it had also temporarily distracted him from the other issue at hand--

G-Gulp, I'm really high up right now.

Ben had a fear of heights.

I-I should get down now, l-lets see... I should g-g-go there!

Managing to maintain his calm with his laser-focused super serious mode poker face, the sort of poker face that gave him a saintly-kind of look to him, able to withstand even the most stressful of situations, he saw far in the distance past one of the mountain's ridgelines was what looked like a small billow of black smoke.

If there's smoke, there's fire, and if there's fire...

T-There should definitely be people there!

As Ben left, barely keeping his calm as he tried hard to not look further down, he had missed a rather crucial detail about the white tower.

In its design, what he had mistaken to be white stone, there was the unmistakable detail of a certain monster's massive skeleton.

Every layer of the tower, comprising of thousands upon thousands of formed layers, the entire structure had actually been made of Black Revenant remains--

Black bones bleached pure alabaster white from the unmistakable effect of holy disintegration.
