Chapter 32 - Interrogation

Just as Ethan bestowed the blessing upon the tribe, something stirred in them. The sensation was unusual, making the tribesmen halt their actions.

The wolf-kin farmers who were tilling the field ceased their action to glance at the blue sky. The sun looked the same, showering the surface with its gentle rays. The sky appeared the same.

But the wolf-kin felt something strange.

Lina couldn't comprehend the reactions of the wolf-kin around her.

"What's wrong, Lira?" She asked in bewilderment.

Lira, however, didn't respond as she continued to look up. Then all of a sudden, the wolf-kin knelt on the ground with their heads lowered.

Lina was startled.

"What's happening?"

Her eyes dilated in panic as her heart thumped.

She couldn't tell the reason behind their unusual gestures. Startled, she looked above in panic. However, she couldn't notice anything unusual.

The sky looked the same as it did before. The fluffy white clouds of different shapes were floating, the sun was shimmering, radiating its warm glow, and the sky was blue.

Then why were they looking above as if they could see something?

Their gestures confused her.

"Thank you, lord!"

The wolf-kin thanked in unison, their voice filled with gratitude.

Lina was once again startled. But at least, now she could tell they were engaging in some sort of prayer. She felt relaxed upon finding the reason.

But wait—

Something didn't sit right!

How could she understand their language?

Did she hear it wrong?

Were they speaking the elven tongue?

The more she thought about it, the more she felt confused.

"Sorry for startling you…" Lira said, turning towards her.

"It's alright. But what was it?" Lina questioned, her tone dumbfounded as if she was unsure of asking.

"Oh! We just felt the sensation of our Lord!" Lira answered, revealing her pearly whites.

"Your Lord? You mean the Guardian spirit you pray to?" Lina questioned.

Lira could already speak fluent Elven tongue. Hence, she didn't suspect anything wrong with her being able to converse with her.

"WOAH! I can understand her!"

One of the wolf-kin exclaimed in surprise and awe. Previously, although he could comprehend some of her words, he struggled to understand.

But now, he could understand her as if she were speaking their language.

This finding surprised him, and he couldn't help but exclaim in shock.

"YEAH! I can understand her too… Holy shit! What's happening?"

Soon, others began to exclaim their shock as well.

Being able to understand the elven language, the wolf-kin present there couldn't help but scream in excitement.

Despite learning the language painstakingly for over a month, they hadn't made significant progress. But now, all of a sudden, they could understand the elven tongue as if it were their own mother tongue.

Lina was now even more convinced, something had shifted.

Just like them, she struggled to understand them before. But now, she could hear them clearly. It almost felt like they were speaking in her mother tongue.

What kind of sorcery was this?

She was astonished and scared at the same time.

Her complexion paled as she clutched her clothes tightly.

"Don't be scared. It's just the grace of our Lord." Lira tried to calm her down. She could tell that Lina was baffled and scared.

Well, if she were in her place, she would be scared as well.

Lina turned to her with a fear-stricken face. But when she was met with Lira's gentle appearance, she couldn't help but relax.

There was something magical in her expression that helped her relax.

It was like a cool, refreshing breeze caressing her face after a tiring day in the field.

"I'm sure our lord has bestowed us some kind of blessing that allows us to communicate. I'm sure he witnessed our struggles and decided to help us." Lira continued, her tone assuring.

Lina felt more convinced upon hearing her.

Her frowns loosened, and her heart calmed down.

With the problem of the language barrier solved, the interrogation could begin.

With eyes wide open, Valen stared at Kael.

'I can understand him!' He thought as he heard him.

"I'm Kael, the leader of the Lunar-Fang Tribe. I know, you must be scared. But we can assure you, we won't do you any harm as long as you tell us about your tribe."

Isn't it a bit too direct?

Elior and Valen stared in daze, both from their understanding of their language and the offer presented to them.

"You're too gentle, Kael," Braka said, revealing an awkward grin as he heard him.

"I told you before, we should have picked someone else for the interrogation. He isn't fitted to be the interrogator. Even a kid wouldn't speak if someone spoke in such a tone, let alone enemies."

Vorrack's nose flared as he remarked.

Even Thran couldn't help but agree with Vorrack, "Yeah… I think we should let someone else interrogate…"

"Move aside—"

Vorrack tried to push Kael aside. However, Kael didn't budge. It felt like he was attempting to push a mountain.

Unable to push him aside, he cast a gaze at him.

Just as he rolled his gaze to look at him, he was met with a cold gaze that sent a shiver down his spine. Those shades of amber held a cold, indifferent aura hidden within.

However, the meaning behind those gazes was clear: "Don't interrupt me!"

Hence, he backed down.

Witnessing this scene firsthand, Valen felt his previous fear surfacing. Though Kael might look gentle, there was something lethal hidden behind his gentle appearance.

He knew he shouldn't misinterpret his gentleness for weakness.

This being before him held the might to ground him into pieces.

"If— If you can promise that you won't harm us, then I'm willing to tell…"

Kael stared at him without changing his expression. The others, however, seemed a bit irritated.

He wasn't in a position to make demands.

Yet, he dared to demand.

Just because Kael told him we wouldn't harm him and his compatriots, he's taking his kindness for a guarantee.

Does he not realize his position?

The thoughts and emotions of other wolf-kin were spilling all over the place.
