Chapter 15 - Chapter 24: Big Feet

Chapter 24: Big Feet

The suburban house reeked of fear, confusion, and something faintly… Sasquatch-like. Juliette, trying to salvage her increasingly strained relationship with Nick, had stumbled upon a brutal murder. The prime suspect? A Wesen with a rare medical condition that prevented him from fully transforming back into a human. Monroe, ever the compassionate Blutbad, was trying to help his friend, a gentle giant trapped between two worlds. Nick and Hank, meanwhile, were caught in the middle, trying to solve a murder while navigating a medical mystery that defied all logic.

Adam, observing from a discreet distance, grimaced. "You know, Ciri, I always thought 'Bigfoot' was just a blurry photo and a bad hoax. Turns out, it's a Wesen with a very unfortunate medical condition. And frankly, this is why you don't trust cryptids. They're always more complicated than they seem. And usually, they smell worse."

[ New Wesen Type Discovered: [Medical Condition Wesen]. Information added to Library. ]

[ Wesen Status: Afflicted. Threat Level: Low-Moderate. Priority: Protection/Diagnosis. ]

Ciri, who had a surprising amount of empathy for the afflicted, scoffed. "He is a victim of his own nature. This is a tragedy, not a crime. The true criminal must be found."

"Agreed," Adam said, scrolling through the newly updated Library entry. "And this 'Medical Condition Wesen'? He's like a walking, talking ethical dilemma. Do you treat him like a monster, or a patient? It's like a really bad episode of 'House,' but with more woging and less witty banter. Though, I could probably add some witty banter if I wanted to."

Their investigation, a blend of Adam's meta-knowledge and Ciri's sharp tracking skills, led them deep into the medical mystery. The Wesen, a gentle soul, was clearly not the murderer, but his condition made him an easy target for suspicion. Nick and Hank were struggling to find the real killer, their human instincts clashing with the supernatural reality.

"Alright, Ciri," Adam whispered, observing the bewildered Wesen. "Here's the plan. We protect the afflicted Wesen. We find the real killer. And then, acid. Lots of acid. For the actual murderer. Because, frankly, some people just need to be dissolved. Especially if they're framing innocent Bigfoot wannabes."

They moved swiftly, Adam's enhanced senses easily cutting through the confusion surrounding the case. He'd even popped a Petri's Philter for enhanced analytical abilities, just to be extra efficient. His eyes, for a brief, terrifying moment, turned completely black, reflecting the dim light of the room. He moved with enhanced speed and strength, delivering precise, non-lethal strikes that incapacitated the real criminal.

The real murderer, a human, lunged at Nick, a desperate glint in his eyes. Adam intercepted him, his steel sword clashing against the criminal's arm with a deafening clang. The criminal roared in surprise, his eyes widening as he saw Adam's black eyes. This was not a human. This was something else. Something unnatural. Something that should not be able to stop his attack. A flicker of primal terror, a moment of confusion, crossed his face, breaking his aggressive momentum.

"Hey, Sherlock!" Adam yelled, pushing back against the criminal's arm with surprising force. "Your murder mystery just got a very permanent solution! Seriously, you need a new hobby. Maybe competitive birdwatching? Less murder, more binoculars."

Ciri, meanwhile, was a whirlwind of silver and steel, her movements fluid and precise. She darted around the brawling Wesen, striking at their joints, exploiting the weaknesses Adam had identified. A casual, almost effortless parry deflected a blow that would have shattered a human's arm. Her movements were so graceful, so efficient, they looked less like combat and more like a deadly dance.

The criminal, disoriented by Adam's unnerving presence and Ciri's relentless attacks, stumbled, his murderous intent momentarily forgotten in the face of this new, terrifying intervention. Adam seized the opportunity, delivering a powerful, non-lethal kick that sent the criminal sprawling.

"Well, that was fun," Adam panted, his eyes flickering back to normal. "A little too much drama for my taste, but effective. And surprisingly, no blurry photos. Missed opportunity." He then produced the Acid of Dissolution. "Alright, clean-up crew. Let's make this shiny bit of trouble disappear. Poof! No evidence, no fuss. Just like magic. And it saves us from having to explain why a human suddenly turned into goo."

[ Kill Count: 1 Human. Level Up! Current Level: 5. Kills to Level 6: 32. ]

"Still Level 5, but progress!" Adam exclaimed. "This is like a medical drama, but with a much more satisfying ending. And speaking of endings, you know, this whole 'medical ethics' thing? It's a classic trope. You ever try to explain tropes to someone who only understands 'hit them until they tell the truth'?"

Ciri stared at him, her brow furrowing. "Medical… ethics? What are these 'medical ethics' you speak of? Are they a new type of magical cure?"

Adam sighed dramatically. "Oh, Ciri. We have so much to discuss. It's a long, complicated conversation. Involving moral dilemmas, patient rights, and a lot of therapy. It's like a really complicated puzzle, but for doctors. But for now, let's just say it's why some doctors are so… conflicted. Now, about those rat people…"

Juliette, meanwhile, had her first real, terrifying encounter with a Wesen. She saw the afflicted Wesen, not as a monster, but as a frightened, confused creature. She also saw the mysterious vigilantes, Adam and Ciri, move with impossible speed and strength. And then, for a fleeting, horrifying moment, she saw Adam's eyes turn completely black as he effortlessly disarmed the criminal. Her world, already shaken by Nick's strange behavior, shattered. She couldn't rationalize it. It was impossible. It was terrifying. Her internal monologue screamed, What was that? What are they? She felt a cold dread seep into her bones, a fear that went beyond anything she'd ever experienced. She had no idea who these people were, but she knew one thing: they were a force to be reckoned with. For better or worse. And her life was about to get a whole lot more complicated.
