I stared at my phone screen, rereading Inspector Sullivan's message from last night. Eddie remained at large, and we needed to stay vigilant. I should have called him back immediately, but Monica had been in my arms, and in that moment, nothing else seemed to matter. This morning, however, required action.
Tobias arrived promptly with six hand-selected security personnel after I'd called him at dawn. These weren't just any guards—these were men whose backgrounds had been thoroughly vetted twice over.
"These are our most reliable men," Tobias assured me, his voice low as the team assembled in my apartment's foyer. "I personally guarantee their loyalty."
After introducing them to my family, I established clear guidelines. Austin wasn't to leave without escort, and Monica needed to take at least three guards whenever she ventured outside. To my relief, she accepted these conditions without protest—a miracle considering her independent nature.
