Monica's POV
Morning arrived with surprising gentleness despite my restless night. The heaviness that had plagued me for days seemed slightly lifted as I walked into the office. Michelle ambushed me with her infectious enthusiasm the moment I stepped through the door.
"Finally! I've been waiting forever to have our coffee date," she exclaimed, wrapping me in a warm hug. "I brought those chocolate chip muffins from that little bakery near my apartment."
My lips curled into a genuine smile. "You know chocolate chip is my absolute favorite."
After dropping my purse in my office and powering up my computer, I heard a gentle knock. Darren leaned against my doorframe, his expression softening when our eyes met.
"How's my stunning assistant doing today?" he asked, taking my hand in his.
"Much better, thank you. And I should apologize for commandeering your couch yesterday," I replied, feeling slightly embarrassed at the memory.
