Morris's POV
"How's Monica holding up, Michelle?" I paused at my secretary's desk, concern evident in my voice.
Michelle looked up from her computer with a grimace. "Disastrous! Complete emotional wreckage! Dorothy brewed her some tea that seemed to help, though. I've been buried in paperwork, but I left her with plenty to occupy herself. Since the sobbing stopped, I haven't checked in."
"I need to explain things to her. She deserves to understand why I'm doing all this," I said, already moving toward Monica's office.
"Morris," Michelle's voice turned stern, "don't hurt my friend again. I'm not convinced there's any explanation that justifies this nightmare you've created."
"I understand, but this conversation needs to happen," I replied before stepping into Monica's office.
