Time crawled by in this concrete hellhole. Every day stretched like an eternity, broken only by the occasional hour in the yard and visits from Jessica. That woman showed up monthly, more out of obligation than affection, but I needed her. Doing time without any contact with the outside world would drive a man insane.
Her first visit had been explosive. She'd found out about Bianca and came in ready to tear my head off. But I knew exactly which buttons to push. I fed her the same sob story I'd used countless times before - that I was weak, that Bianca had seduced me, that it meant nothing. Jessica ate it up like she always did. Twenty years of marriage had taught me her patterns. She'd rage, I'd apologize, and eventually she'd forgive me. Rinse and repeat.
