Chapter 2 - First Soul Ring

Oscar's goal for his first soul skill was always to have it be a recovery type. The original version's first soul skill was already quite good, eating a sausage could restore stamina, soul power, and heal injuries over a period of time.

This was actually already very powerful. The recovery effect might not be as specialized as that of a pure support-type Soul Master, but overall, it wasn't inferior at all, it offered comprehensive recovery, making it a truly formidable first soul skill.

What's more, as Oscar's strength increased, the recovery effect of this skill would also improve, in a way, it was a skill that could grow stronger along with him.

After entering the Star Dou Great Forest, Oscar shared his idea, and Zhao Wuji immediately agreed. After all, when they were on their way here, the teachers had already discussed what kind of soul beast Oscar should look for.

Once their target was clear, Zhao Wuji led Oscar straight to the area where recovery-type soul beasts were most likely to appear. Zhao Wuji was quite familiar with the Star Dou Great Forest, every time he needed a soul ring, this was where he came.

It had to be said, Oscar's luck was really good. On top of a two-hundred-year-old emerald cedar, Zhao Wuji spotted a four-hundred-and-thirty-year-old Blood Demon Silkworm.

This type of soul beast was a perfect match for Oscar, and its age was just right. Zhao Wuji struck immediately, captured the Blood Demon Silkworm, and tossed it in front of Oscar.

Though the Blood Demon Silkworm was four hundred and thirty years old, it was less than thirty centimeters long, a truly tiny soul beast.

Staring at the Blood Demon Silkworm before him, Oscar drew a dagger from his robes and ended its life without the slightest hesitation. This was nature's law of survival, he had no other choice.

As a yellow soul ring rose before him, Oscar couldn't stop the excitement bubbling up inside. He was about to become a Soul Master, a kind of strength he had never experienced before.

Sitting cross-legged, with Zhao Wuji's guidance at his side, the soul ring absorption went remarkably smoothly. Three hours later, a bright yellow soul ring hovered steadily around Oscar.

Oscar let out a long breath, stood up, and clenched his now-powerful fists, silently marveling, So this is what it feels like to be a Soul Master.

"Whew" Oscar didn't restrain his soul power. A ripple of soul power at the twelfth rank spread toward Zhao Wuji, who looked at him with pleasant surprise.

"Little Ao, your soul power has already reached the twelfth rank? Truly worthy of being a genius with innate full soul power!" Zhao Wuji praised.

"It's all thanks to you finding the right soul ring for me, Teacher Zhao. My soul skill turned out really strong too." Oscar smiled in reply.

Honestly, if he hadn't just transmigrated when awakening his Martial Soul, leaving him no time to train his body, his first soul ring's age could have been even higher.

But even so, Oscar was more than satisfied, he had no experience absorbing soul rings before, so there was no need to take unnecessary risks.

As for absorbing soul rings beyond his level, in the future, as long as he trained hard enough, it shouldn't be a problem.

"Little Ao, tell me about your soul skill?" Zhao Wuji asked, nodding.

"My first soul skill: Super Recovery Big Sausage!" Oscar activated his soul power, and the yellow soul ring shimmered. Instantly, a sausage appeared in his hand.

"Teacher Zhao, my first soul skill is called Super Recovery Big Sausage. The effect is that after eating it, your soul power, stamina, spiritual power, and injuries will all gradually recover over a period of time." Oscar handed the sausage to Zhao Wuji and added, "This Blood Demon Silkworm had really strong talent, so the soul skill's effect is powerful too."

Zhao Wuji ate the Super Recovery Big Sausage and focused carefully. Soon, a look of delighted surprise appeared on his face and he exclaimed excitedly, "Little Ao, you really are a true genius!"

"But with my current soul power, I can only make about ten sausages a day at most," Oscar added.

"Ten?" Zhao Wuji was taken aback.

"What, you think that's too few? Ten Super Recovery Big Sausages, that's practically a life-saving charm for a whole team," Zhao Wuji said, half-amused.

Having obtained a soul ring he was so satisfied with, Oscar happily followed Zhao Wuji back. A week later, the two of them returned to the academy.

What surprised Oscar a bit was that his soul incantation wasn't as embarrassing as in the original story, something he was quite glad about. After all, Oscar did care about his image.

Back at the academy, Oscar threw himself into grueling training. Over the next week, he tried meditating and cultivating his soul power, then compared his progress with Zhao Wuji's data, he discovered that at the same level, food-type Soul Masters progressed about a third slower than other Soul Masters.

When it came to cultivation speed, Oscar fell behind by that one-third, and to make up for that, he'd have to work even harder.

Back at the academy, Oscar first sought out Teacher Shao Xin for an in-depth discussion. After all, Shao Xin was a fellow food-type Soul Master, and a genius at that.

At forty years old, Shao Xin's soul power was already at rank sixty-seven, an achievement many could never hope to reach, especially as a food-type Soul Master.

In the field of food-type Martial Soul cultivation, Shao Xin had plenty of insights to share, which Oscar found invaluable. After all, much of someone else's experience was worth learning from.

As a teacher, Shao Xin didn't hold anything back either, he shared everything he knew about the characteristics and cultivation methods of food-type Soul Masters.

However, Oscar didn't plan to cultivate himself purely as a food-type Soul Master. He knew very well that if he wanted to make a name for himself, just supporting others wouldn't be enough.

His daily routine became theory classes in the mornings, after all, even though he was familiar with the original story, he hadn't systematically learned the knowledge of this world, so now was the time to cram it all in.

In the afternoons, he trained on his own. And since there was only one Soul Master with an offensive Tool Soul in the academy , Li Yusong and Oscar got himself a steel staff and practiced staff techniques with Li Yusong.

His main focus was still building his physique and cultivating soul power, the staff work came second. Unfortunately, since Oscar didn't have a Soul Tool, he couldn't store or summon his staff at will.

Now that he was a Soul Master, Oscar had originally planned to register officially, after all, that meant earning one gold soul coin every month. But Flender wouldn't allow it.

An auxiliary-type genius with innate full soul power was too valuable, Flender had his own reasons, so he didn't let Oscar register, at least not until he turned ten.

Oscar didn't mind, this was also a way to protect him. If the Spirit Hall took him away now, who knew what might happen in the future?

It wasn't that he intended to stick to Tang San's side and lick his boots, it was simply that, aside from having foreknowledge, he had no other power backing him right now.

So, to make sure the future wouldn't get derailed, Oscar planned to follow the original story's timeline for now, take it one step at a time.

If he was lucky enough to come across some fortuitous opportunity later, he could reconsider his plans. After all, even if he just followed the script step by step, he'd have a god position waiting for him in the end.

Although he couldn't benefit from the official Soul Master stipend, Oscar came up with another way to make money, selling his sausages. But unlike in the original story where he sold ordinary sausages, this time he aimed for the auction house.

His first soul skill, the Super Recovery Big Sausage could now be stored for seven days. Compared to other food-type Soul Masters, this shelf life was already pretty good. Plus, its effect was better than most potions, making it highly desirable for lower-level Soul Masters.

And this was only temporary in the future, as Oscar's strength increased, the sausages' shelf life would get even longer.

So every day, Oscar made ten sausages and had Flender take them to the auction house. Of course, Oscar's sausages were a niche item, not much use for high-level Soul Masters.

Still, even so, the sausages brought him a pretty decent income every month.

Though the ten sausages earned him plenty of gold soul coins, Flender ever the sly fox still took ten gold soul coins a month as a "travel expense." Oscar didn't mind, but he did insist that future tuition fees would come out of that, he wouldn't be paying those himself anymore.

Flender did advise Oscar not to sell his sausages too freely after all, this was a Soul Master's trump card. If everyone knew about it, it wouldn't be a trump card anymore.

But Oscar didn't care. These were just recovery sausages even if people knew about them, so what? As long as it wasn't an especially powerful soul skill, he planned to keep auctioning them in the future.

Besides, doing it this way didn't expose him at all. Martial Souls came in all shapes and sizes no one would suspect that sausages this effective came from a six-year-old child.

Unless he was foolish enough to reveal himself, which he definitely wasn't Flender handled all the auctions, and Oscar stayed behind the scenes.

It had to be said, with Oscar's current soul power, producing ten Super Recovery Big Sausages a day meant three hundred a month. With that staggering number, Oscar was gradually getting rich.

Shao Xin was inspired by Oscar's idea, too he started auctioning off his own auxiliary and recovery-type soul skill candy beans. As a Soul Emperor, Shao Xin's soul skills were immensely useful even to other Soul Emperors, and the beans had a minimum shelf life of over a month. The ones made with ten-thousand-year soul skills could even last three whole months.

With this new source of income, the once perpetually cash-strapped Shrek Academy suddenly found itself flush with money, sending Flender over the moon.

Oscar couldn't help but click his tongue at this. For Soul Masters, making money really should be easy he couldn't understand how Shrek Academy in the original story stayed so poor.

Maybe Shao Xin never thought of selling his candy beans at auction?

But Oscar didn't dwell on it. He was Oscar now no way he'd muddle through life like in the original. He would do everything he could to grow stronger and enjoy life to the fullest.

And there was no need to worry about Shao Xin's soul skills being exposed either the candy beans he was selling were all common recovery and healing ones. Even if outsiders found out, it didn't matter.

His more powerful soul skills were never put up for sale.

Of course, once Soto City's auction house suddenly got hold of items useful even to Soul Emperor–level powerhouses, it caused an immediate stir. After all, if the candy beans were that effective, then the person who made them had to be at least a Soul Emperor themselves.

Fortunately, Shao Xin had no enemies, so no one was after him.

All in all, after Oscar took the first step, Shrek Academy steadily began to prosper.
