Lucian stared at the empty compartment beneath his desk for several long seconds before pushing it shut with enough force for the sound to crack sharply through the room.
The noise echoed against the chamber walls.
His eyes swept slowly across the space again.
Nothing looked destroyed. Nothing looked obviously wrong.
Which somehow made everything more irritating.
Whoever entered hadn't searched the room carelessly.
No drawers overturned. No papers scattered. No signs of panic.
Everything had been returned almost perfectly into place, like the intruder respected organization enough to clean up after violating his privacy.
Unfortunately for them, Lucian noticed details most people ignored.
One book sat slightly farther left than before.
The stack of loose documents near the candle holder had been reordered incorrectly.
Even the dust patterns near the shelf looked disturbed.
Small things... Tiny things... But enough.
