Chapter 7 - Coffee, Chaos, and CEO

Jiang Yue was not above shamelessness.

Not when her life literally depended on sticking within three meters of Li Zhenkai, the walking iceberg slash human luck battery. So, when she saw a job opening at Liu Corporation for an "Executive Assistant Intern," she didn't hesitate.

"System," she whispered while filling out the application, "this is what survival looks like."

[Ding. Objective Update: Bold but logical. Fatal Event Probability reduced by 3%.]

Two days later, she stood in front of the mirror in a sleek beige blouse and pencil skirt, hair pinned up neatly.

"You look like a functioning adult," she told herself. "You're smart. Professional. Capable. You are not here to stalk your CEO shaped life insurance policy. Nope. Not at all."

The system screen popped up in front of her.

[LIE DETECTED.]

"Shut up," she hissed, grabbing her bag.

Her first Day at Liu Corporation

Liu Corporation's building loomed like a skyscraper sized warning sign screaming: Abandon hope, unlucky heroine.

She stepped into the lobby, ignoring the whispers that followed her. The employees here were polished and intimidating, basically sharks in high heels and cufflinks.

But she didn't care.

Because at the top floor of this building was Li Zhenkai.

And she was going to survive.

Her supervisor, a polite but slightly nervous man named Assistant Chen, gave her the standard tour. By the time they reached the executive floor, Jiang Yue's heart was hammering like she was about to infiltrate enemy territory.

And then… she saw him.

Li Zhenkai stood near the window of his office, tall, immaculate, and terrifyingly composed. He glanced her way, his gaze sharp enough to slice through glass.

"You hired her?" he asked flatly, not even bothering to hide his suspicion.

Assistant Chen cleared his throat. "Sir, Miss Jiang scored… um… adequately and above all others in the interviews."

Jiang Yue smiled sweetly. "Hi, boss! Fate brought us together."

He stared. "…You followed me here, didn't you?"

"Nope," she lied cheerfully.

The system dinged.

[Lie Detected.]

She mentally swatted the floating screen.

Li Zhenkai sighed, pinched the bridge of his nose, and muttered, "If you disrupt my work, I'll have you escorted out."

"Don't worry," Jiang Yue chirped, "I'll be invisible. You won't even notice I'm here!"

Five minutes later, she caused her first disaster.

It started innocently enough, she was bored and wanted to butter up to the CEO, how hard could making coffee possibly be so, She offered to bring Li Zhenkai coffee. Easy task, right?

Except her bad luck apparently had a personal vendetta.

And her heel caught on the rug in front of his desk.

The coffee cup tilted.

Her hand flailed, loses all strength and grip in fear and in a horrifying slow motion sequence, she watched as the coffee arced through the air, straight toward the most expensive suit she'd ever seen.

SPLASH.

Gasps filled the office.

One assistant dropped her pen. Another clapped a hand over her mouth.

"Dead," whispered one intern. "She's so dead."

Jiang Yue froze, clutching the empty cup, staring at the dark stain spreading across Li Zhenkai's pristine suit.

"I… I can explain," she said weakly.

Li Zhenkai looked down at his shirt. Then up at her. His face was unreadable.

Everyone held their breath.

He exhaled. Slowly. "Towels. Now," he ordered an assistant.

He turned to Jiang Yue. "And you—"

She winced.

"Don't ever touch coffee again."

The room collectively blinked.

No yelling. No firing. Just… resignation.

"Y-yes, boss," she stammered, handing him napkins like her life depended on it. (It kind of did.)

He sighed again, muttering under his breath, "Why do I even bother…"

The system dinged happily.

[Luck Boost Active. Fatal Event Probability Reduced to 78%.]

She nearly cried with relief. "System, I love him."

[Clarification: Survival attachment, not romantic.]

"Same difference," she whispered.

Sticking to the Iceberg

By lunch, Jiang Yue had already attached herself to his shadow.

On board meetings, She sat quietly in the corner, furiously scribbling fake notes while staring at his aura meter still glowing like a golden sun on her system screen.

During lunch break, She "coincidentally" ended up in the executive cafeteria at the exact same time he did.

Time to close for the day came and she was gonna be on his car ride home, She stood in front of his personal elevator with the determination of a soldier.

He stared at her, holding his briefcase. "Are you seriously? "

"Yes," she said firmly, stepping in beside him.

His jaw tightened. "…Unbelievable."

"Three meters!" she chirped.

He pinched the bridge of his nose again, as if she personally lowered his lifespan every time she opened her mouth. But he didn't throw her out.

And that was how, by the end of her first day, Jiang Yue officially became the most persistent, luck-cursed shadow in the life of Li Zhenkai, frustrated and reluctant human rabbit's foot.

As she collapsed into bed that night, the system updated:

Progress Report

Near-death events survived: 3/100

Fatality reduction from proximity: 78%

"Iceberg CEO Affinity": +1

She grinned sleepily, one day down. Ninety seven near death events to go.

And if she had to stalk the coldest CEO in the world to make it happen?

Well… at least he looked really good while being her bodyguard by proximity.
