Chapter 2 - No One There

As I was coming back into the building, that second-floor window came over all my face again. Same huge tities, same naughty girl throwing herself naked all over the place. I blinked and got back inside. A bit disturbed, but I was used to those scenes here.

I thought it might certainly be one of her customers, one of those rough boys who used to come and have fun in her room. Maybe he was trying to get on my nerves.

I ran straight to the second-floor and knocked at her door, again and again.

"Open this door, I know he is there"

"Whaaat?? Stop it! I'm coming, but calm down! I'm alone!" She opened the door while still talking, as I was still yelling.

"Where is he?" I asked while I was tense and breathing fast after I climbed those few stairs quickly.

She answered, "I don't know what the fuck you are talking about! What's happening?"

Without any explanation, I pushed her away and moved inside to find out by myself. Nobody was there. As I was moving around, she came closer to me and grabbed my hands.

"Do you need some relaxing stuff, honey?" As she asked, she threw herself on my chest, almost losing the light bathrobe she was wearing. I stepped back and moved quickly outside. I then started looking left and right in the corridor, but nobody was there.

For a moment, I wondered if I wasn't losing my mind, especially as I saw how she was looking at me, a confused expression on her face. She banged her door, and I went down, thinking about the knocking, about the scene, while fully aware of my surroundings. The urge to catch the bastard that was disturbing my peace kept rising.

"Where're you hiding, you son of a bitch? Come back here, you mother fucker, come'n challenge me if you have balls, you little as hole, you think you're smart? You think you are strong? Come back here, let me teach you a lesson bitch!!" I was totally out of control, no one was there to answer my call, and this whole thing was driving me crazy. I feel like losing my mind.

No one still showed up despite all the noise. This place was crazy. Even the neighbours didn't care. The building was quiet as fuck. Only my voice, then nothing else. People were minding their business inside.

So I went back to my apartment. As I got in, I noticed the TV was turned off. This scared me straight away, because it has been on since yesterday. Somebody did that, not me.

Don't panic, think and see how to…

I whispered this thought to myself several times to keep going in confidence, but instead, my whole being got submerged by panic. When it was happening at the other side of the door, outside, the unknown didn't scare me that much; the knocking and the emptiness didn't stand a chance to face my courage. But this time, in my apartment, things have changed. Someone is entering my house! Who then? I checked every room, and no one was here.

I thought of yelling again, but that was too much for this morning; I was tired. I thought of quitting this rustic place, but it was too early; I had been there for 2 months without any real disturbance. A little test would not take me out just like that! So, I dropped that idea.

I took my phone and dialled her number, but finally, she didn't pick up the phone. I tried again, but nothing. This is not normal; she is supposed to be craving my call! What's happening?!? We got a deal unsettled!

Was she aware already of where I was hiding? What may have happened? It's been just 2 months! Normally, I'm only supposed to contact her after six months have passed, but she didn't pick up my call.

"Alloo, Allooo, Erika, can you hear me?" Nothing. For a moment, I thought she had finally picked up the call. But nobody is answering on her end. I felt like somebody was listening, though but couldn't say a word.

What is happening with Erika?

I kept on thinking.

She is the only one I can contact in order not to compromise the case. She does not trust me that much, but at least she is working for the truth; she is the kind of detective who will first handle a case and judge you later. I know she hates me, but she won't refuse to pick up my calls just like that! Especially in these sensitive moments!

"kkrrrnnnn!! kkrrrnnnn!!" As I was still reflecting on this whole thing, the phone rang. I quickly picked it, expecting to talk to Erika directly. But another voice was in.

"We know where you are, you are no longer safe, and will no longer be"

My heart started racing, fast, very fast. Someone was after me, surely not a gang of Bald Moss, or else I would be dead already. But it seems serious, and I may be in danger right now. The voice on the phone was convincing; they were not playing at all. Under this thrilling moment, I walk again to the door, slide and slowly open it and peep left and right. Cold as fuck!

It was still early in the morning, just after dawn, but the corridors were dark as if we were still at midnight. The build was like that because the bobs were off-grid, and no one ever thought of replacing them. Not even me. We were used to living with them like that until now. I was suddenly concerned by the everlasting darkness of the staircase. Now that a shadow was roaming there and after my life.

I had to do something urgently before they finally get me. Erika... she was the only person I could call from this hole, but she is not available. Was she still alive? How come her calls were picked up by this strange person? I may no longer be able to count on her…
