Chapter 4 - Second spike

"Finally!" Griff exclaimed.

Griff had just activated his soul weapon. A massive tornado of dust began to form. As the weapon manifested, the other sergeants began retreating—but at the same time, they tried to activate their own.

"Ha! This is interesting. Come on!" the Dalki roared, eyes wide with excitement.

Griff controlled the swirling tornado and directed it toward the charging Dalki. Manipulating the earth beneath them, he transformed the debris into bullet-like projectiles that tore through the Dalki's skin. Thick green blood splattered from the wounds.

This bought time—enough for the other sergeants to summon their own soul weapons. One of them transformed his hands and feet into solid stone blocks, shaped by the earth itself. Grunting with effort, he launched forward and slammed a punch into the Dalki's gut, following it up with a brutal uppercut. More blood gushed out.

"Yes, this is good," the Dalki said, grinning wickedly. "Bleed me more. Did you forget? The more I bleed, the stronger I get."

He narrowed his eyes.

"Guess I'll have to jog your memory about us Dalki."

With a brutal twist, the Dalki spun and hurled a ferocious kick straight into the earth-armored sergeant's abdomen. The stone cracked and shattered on impact, sending the man flying like a ragdoll across the battlefield.

"This fight... it'll help me evolve. I'll get my second spike here."

Without warning, the Dalki bent his knees and launched himself high into the air—straight toward Griff.

"You're annoying."

Meanwhile, "Guys, come on! I need your help!" Quin yelled.

Other students scrambled toward the toppled bus, trying to lift it. Inside, a blonde-haired student peered through the broken frame and watched the chaos unfold. The fight was nearing their location—and fast.

Dust clouded the air as the tornado crept closer. Students outside the bus began to panic.

"Hey! What are you guy doing!?" Quin screamed from inside, struggling to lift a twisted metal beam. "Bastards—why are they all running?"

"Hey, man! What's your name?" the blonde-haired student asked.

"Me? I'm Quin. What's yours?"

"I'm Vorden."Nice to meet you—though I wish it weren't in the middle of this mess," he joked.

Vorden's voice shifted to a more serious tone.

"Quin, listen to me. You need to run. Save yourself. The Dalki is dangerously close."

Quin hesitated. Vorden was right—why should he risk his life for someone he didn't even now? his entire life he was bullied by the higher ups with power, but he hoped the military school for a new beginning

"You may be right, but…"

Before Quin could finish, Vorden grabbed him tightly and held him close.

Just then, a massive impact hit the other side of the bus. The entire vehicle launched into the air like a toy, like tossed by an unseen giant.

As the bus lifted, Vorden's arm was finally free. In one swift motion, he wrapped his other injured arm through the pain around Quin, focused his ability—and leapt.

They exited through the other end just as the bus spun wildly, crashing and rolling several times before coming to a screeching halt.

Vorden had used his superspeed ability to rescue both of them from the jaws of death and brought them where the other students were.

Quin's eyes widened in shock. Soon, He dropped to the ground and threw up immediately.

"I'm glad I touched someone with superspeed…" he muttered, gasping for breath.

Quin wiped his mouth.

"What the hell just happened?"

Vorden smiled faintly.

"I just returned the favor. You tried to save me, so I saved you. Now come on—let's go before we get caught up in their fight."
