"A woman's intuition is never wrong, I tell you." Miko laughed softly, watching Lumine with an amused look on her face.
She hadn't expected Lumine — who knew so little of what had been going on — to put it together so quickly.
Then again, the moment she thought about Kaito's uncanny luck with women, she decided it made perfect sense. If a girl came looking for Kaito, jumping straight to Lumine's conclusion was less of a sixth sense and more of a safe bet.
"So Mobius is also…"
"Different from us." Miko cut her off before she could finish, then continued: "How do I put this — it's more like Mobius is the one clinging to Kaito, not the other way around. At least, if that guy wasn't lying."
Given Kaito's track record with women, Miko wasn't ready to take his word for it entirely.
But there was nothing she could do about it right now — she had no way to verify it.
If she ever got another chance to meet Mobius alone, she'd ask her directly. Whether Mobius would actually answer was another question.
"I see. That's… not what I expected." Lumine blinked, genuinely surprised.
"So Lumine — do you think Kaito was telling the truth?" Miko asked, tilting her head.
"Huh? Why do you ask?" Lumine couldn't help blurting it out.
As far as she could tell, Kaito had no reason to lie about something like that.
"Because that man has had one girlfriend after another, and now suddenly this one isn't? Something feels off." Miko said, explaining her reasoning.
Lumine: "…"
Lumine had absolutely no idea how to respond to that.
Sure, that kind of reasoning made sense for some things — but applying it here felt like a bit of a stretch, didn't it?
She opened her mouth and said, "It's perfectly normal for it to be different this time. It's not like Kaito is into every girl he meets."
"Is that so…" Miko murmured, as if mulling it over, then said, "Well, if we ever get the chance, let's just ask Mobius ourselves."
"Mm, good idea — except we have no idea where she is right now." Lumine nodded, thinking that was a solid plan.
"Oh, right."
As if something had just occurred to her, Miko began glancing around in all directions, searching for something.
"What's wrong?" Lumine instinctively followed her gaze and began looking around as well.
She had no idea what Miko was looking for, so naturally she found nothing. Or rather — she didn't even know what she was supposed to be looking for. She was just following Miko's lead on instinct.
"You know…" Miko was still scanning the area as she spoke. "If Kaito really wasn't lying — what do you think Mobius might do to us?"
"That's… probably nothing, right…?" Lumine said, not entirely sure, then added: "Though I suppose it's possible… Should we head back to Kaito now?"
Recalling how Kaito had described Mobius, and hearing Miko put it that way, Lumine felt a genuine flicker of unease. What if Mobius decided to do something to the two of them?
Going by Kaito's description, neither of them would stand a chance against her.
Although — if either of them had strength like Wendy's, or Acheron's, maybe they wouldn't have to worry at all.
"Let's head back. That Mobius — just looking at her made me feel like she was dangerous."
After thinking it over, Miko decided they should regroup with Kaito first.
She wasn't sure whether her suspicions had any basis in reality — but to be safe, and to avoid causing Kaito any unnecessary trouble, it was better for both her and Lumine to return. As for whether they still needed to worry after that, Miko figured she'd just ask Kaito directly once they got back.
"Let's go."
"Okay."
With those few words exchanged, the two of them started making their way back toward the teahouse.
Even though the streets around them were crowded, their pace was noticeably quick.
Before long, they arrived in front of the teahouse.
And just as they were about to step inside, Kaito's voice came from behind them.
"You two are back already?"
Kaito?
Wait — where did they go?
Lumine turned at the sound of his voice. Seeing Kaito standing there with Zhongli and Childe beside him, Miko was equally puzzled — and that was the first thing that crossed her mind.
"Kaito! You're back — did you already finish your tea?" Lumine walked over and asked.
"Not quite — we just went… actually, let's go inside first." Considering they were already at the teahouse door, Kaito decided to save the explanation for inside.
"Sure." Lumine nodded, and the group headed in together.
Inside the teahouse.
"It's a dark and stormy night — you weren't out doing something shady, were you?" Miko said with a teasing grin the moment she sat down.
"Ha, of course not." Childe laughed and shook his head.
"Mobius might have shown up just now," Kaito said, getting straight to the point.
"You saw her?" Miko asked immediately, eyes sharp.
"No — and we're not even sure it was her." Kaito shook his head. "Just now, a unit of Millelith marched out to the Guili Plains and cordoned off an area, wouldn't let anyone near it. We don't know if it was Mobius's doing."
"That unit that just passed through?" Lumine asked, the memory clicking into place.
Before they had run into Childe, she and the others had been walking around the city when a squad of Millelith had rushed past them in a hurry — she'd had no idea what it was about.
"Yeah, them." Kaito nodded.
"But how would the Millelith inside the city have known something happened outside?" Miko murmured, almost to herself.
"Probably a patrol unit stationed outside the city." Childe offered, with a speculative tilt of his head.
Zhongli followed with a nod: "Childe is right. There are Millelith posted outside the city walls."
"So why didn't you go take a look?" Miko asked, curious — especially since the Geo Archon himself had gone along.
"We'll head there after we talk to the Qixing about Mobius tomorrow." Kaito answered, knowing exactly what she was wondering about.
Then, after a moment's thought, he added: "Besides, as far as most people are concerned, Mr. Zhongli is just an ordinary person."
