Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 - Bloody Night.

Before nightfall, we first had to find food for everyone.

There wasn't enough meat at home. I left Serie in charge of the elves and went out to hunt.

But what should I hunt?

Bear meat is awful, so I needed to find something else.

"Are there any animals around here besides bears?" So far, the only predators I'd seen in this area were bears. In the past, it was common to see wild boars, wolves, and other types of animals.

I flew over the forest surrounding the tree and used magic to enhance my vision. I searched through the trees for a few minutes until I finally spotted an animal.

"Luckily, it's not a bear."

Feeling relieved, I flew at high speed toward the wolf I had found.

It didn't notice me until I was already close and grabbed its neck with my bare hands.

I used magic to strengthen my body — a kind of physical enhancement.

The wolf didn't even have time to react before its neck was crushed.

Right after I killed it, I started to hear howls nearby. Then I noticed a few smaller wolves. "Pups?" Even though they were young, they were big. "I can cook you too," I smiled.

With a spell, the heads of the three wolves were ripped cleanly from their bodies.

It looked as if a giant invisible hand had twisted their heads off.

"How am I going to carry all this?"

I gathered the four wolf and used water magic to freeze them. I did it in the blink of an eye. Then I used physical enhancement magic and flew back with the frozen wolves on my back.

In seconds, I arrived at Serie's house.

The moment she sensed my presence, she came outside.

"Is that...?"

"I found some wolves in the forest. Three of them are pups, but I think it's enough meat for everyone."

"Yes, it's enough, but it'll take a while to clean all the bodies."

"Don't worry. I'll help."

"Alright. Let's do it out here so we don't make a mess inside. Did you at least drain the blood?"

"Ah... I forgot."

I melted the ice, and blood began to stain the ground.

Serie sighed. "Well, whatever."

She began hanging the carcasses one by one from a nearby tree, slowly draining the blood.

I watched everything with a smile on my face.

"You work well!"

"..." Serie looked at me like I was a nuisance. I shrugged and walked over to the bodies. "What do you think Riveria's doing right now?"

"What kind of question is that? How would I know?"

"I'm just curious."

"Don't even think about it."

"Hm? But I didn't say anything."

"But you were planning to."

"You're quite sharp." I smiled and stepped away. "I'm going to the bathroom. Be right back."

POV: Third Person

Night had fallen over Rakia's capital, Valua.

The common district and noble district were quiet as always, but the military district was in chaos.

At last, one of the Familias had decided to launch the first attack.

The god leading the Familia was none other than Phobos — a beautiful woman with long, black hair down to her waist.

Phobos was one of the leading members of the Ares Familia, despite being a goddess. After Ares' death, she took control of his most influential members — including several generals.

Her goal was simple:

Take control of Rakia for herself.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" one of the generals, Garyuu, asked.

"Yes. The Familias that took control of the eastern and southeastern regions have small armies. We'll take them out first, then focus on the more powerful Familias in the west," Phobos replied.

She had never been much of a strategist.

Her plan was basically to absorb the weaker Familias and build up the strength of her own.

By doing that, she believed she could easily destroy the more powerful ones later.

"But as soon as you make a move, the other Familias will try to take our base for themselves."

"You're right. But it's fine."

"How is it fine?" Garyuu asked, clearly frustrated by Phobos' reckless plan.

"I've prepared something."

"?"

Even as one of the most influential generals in her Familia, Garyuu had no idea what she meant.

But he had no choice but to trust her.

So he took to the front lines, leading more than half of the Phobos Familia members eastward through the dark, grim streets of Valua's military district.

That night would come to be known as:

"The Bloody Night of Rakia."

POV: Frieren

After we finished cleaning all the meat, I helped Serie prepare the food for everyone. I mainly took care of the seasoning and cooking times. By the time everything was done, night had already fallen.

I placed three small tables outside Serie's house and created one large table so everyone could sit together.

I served everyone's plate myself — except for Serie and Lyuu.

When the elves saw the food in front of them, they stared at their plates, waiting for permission to eat. "What are you waiting for? Go ahead!"

They emptied their plates quickly.

In no time, all the food we'd prepared was gone.

As the elves started getting ready to wash up and go to sleep, I walked over to Serie and said:

"It's going to be impossible to keep feeding them like this…"

"We'll need to teach them how to hunt for their own food. There's no other way."

I don't want to waste my time hunting every day. They'll have to adapt.

"Alright. Starting tomorrow, I'll teach them myself."

"Wait... You're going to teach?" Serie looked shocked. "You've never taught anyone before. What's gotten into you?"

"Hmm? Didn't I teach you magic?"

"Yes, but that was a long time ago. After that, I took over the training along with the stronger elves. You always thought teaching was boring."

"And it is boring. But if I teach them, they'll learn faster."

"Are you calling me a bad teacher?"

"Yes, I am."
