Chapter 3 - Does the counselor have a partner?

"Mind your manners. I was just reminding that Big Brother to take care of his body and not overexert himself."

Shen Yuan typed with both hands and clicked send, but to his surprise, the next second he received a red exclamation mark.

"Message sent, but rejected by recipient."

"Do you really need to block me? How will you contact me if you miss me later?"

Seeing the bright red exclamation mark, Shen Yuan shook his head and then started to cash out again.

Shen Yuan's Jiebei had a 20,000 yuan limit, Huabei had a remaining limit of 9,200 yuan, Jingdong Baitiao had a limit of 12,000 yuan, and he also had a credit card with a remaining limit of 11,000 yuan, which meant he could cash out a total of 52,000 yuan.

He had a friend on WeChat who specialized in cashing out, charging a 3% handling fee, meaning for every 10,000 yuan cashed out, he would receive 9,700 yuan.

The handling fee was a bit high, but Shen Yuan figured since his principal could yield a 200% return, he didn't care.

He found the friend named "AAA Da Zhe" in his friend list, clearly told him his needs, and Da Zhe immediately sent over Alipay and Jingdong payment codes. After scanning out 9,200 + 12,000 yuan, Da Zhe quickly transferred 19,400 yuan back.

"Credit cards require a POS machine to swipe the physical card. Are you in urgent need of money? You can come to Guo Jin Center. My shop is opposite Guo Jin Center."

Da Zhe sent a message, along with a location pin.

Guo Jin Center is a famous shopping mall in Xing City with a rich variety of luxury stores. Seeing these four words, Shen Yuan felt a bit dazed, thinking about how he used to be a frequent shopper at Guo Jin Center, but now he was going there to cash out.

Since he wasn't in a hurry, Shen Yuan chose low-carbon travel, taking an hour-long bus ride before arriving at Guo Jin Center.

Da Zhe's shop was a small mobile phone repair shop. When Shen Yuan entered, he was hunched over, disassembling a phone, appearing to be in his thirties and unremarkable.

After Shen Yuan explained his purpose, Da Zhe connected the young man in front of him with the person he had just chatted with on WeChat. Without much extra talk, he took out a POS machine and told Shen Yuan to swipe his card.

"It's best to make two transactions, and it's best to leave a few hundred or a thousand yuan on the credit card, so the card is less likely to be frozen."

"Okay."

Shen Yuan nodded, indeed, professionals handle professional matters.

Of the 11,000 yuan limit on the card, he swiped two transactions totaling 10,500 yuan, receiving 10,185 yuan after deducting the handling fee, leaving 500 yuan on the card.

He received a total of 29,585 yuan from cashing out, plus the 20,000 yuan that just arrived from Jiebei, and the 99 yuan from WeChat, so Shen Yuan now had 49,684 yuan in hand.

If all this money were spent, he could instantly get nearly 100,000 yuan in cashback.

Shen Yuan was contemplating what would be most suitable to buy with this money, while Da Zhe, from behind the counter, seeing that Shen Yuan hadn't left yet, casually added, "You can also find me if you need a loan."

Shen Yuan's mouth twitched slightly: "I probably don't need it, thank you."

Da Zhe looked up and sized up the young man, saying faintly, "That's hard to say."

He had been in this business for seven or eight years and had dealt with all sorts of people. These young people hadn't formed mature consumption habits yet, and suddenly cashing out so much money definitely meant no good. Perhaps in a few days, the money would be spent, and he would come back to him for a loan.

For him, the commission from consumer loans and small loans was much higher than from cashing out.

Faced with Da Zhe's words, Shen Yuan felt a bit helpless, but he couldn't tell him about the system. Even if he did, Da Zhe would probably think he was an idiot.

Thinking this, he didn't argue with Da Zhe and continued to consider his spending options.

Currently, the only female with a favorability rating over 60 was Teacher Li Xiao, so Shen Yuan decided to continue focusing his spending power on her.

Spending 50,000 yuan quickly on Teacher Li Xiao wasn't that simple. With her personality, she definitely wouldn't accept expensive gifts from students, especially since Shen Yuan was already a poor student with a bankrupt family in her eyes, which would make her even more resistant.

However, upon careful thought, there was always a way.

Half an hour later, Shen Yuan walked out of the main entrance of Guo Jin Center, carrying an LV shopping bag.

Just now, he had spent a large portion of his money at the LV counter, currently only having 9,884 yuan left.

The bag in the shopping bag was worth 39,800 yuan and was LV's spring collection for this year. As for why he bought a spring collection item when the summer collection was already out, Shen Yuan had his reasons.

Carrying the LV shopping bag, Shen Yuan was about to go to the bus stop to catch a ride. At this moment, Da Zhe, who was smoking outside his shop across the street, happened to see the LV shopping bag in Shen Yuan's hand. He let out a disdainful snort: "As expected, he's a prodigal son!"

Shen Yuan was completely oblivious to Da Zhe's contempt. He first took an hour-long bus ride, then walked through streets and alleys to a common residential building.

This residential building had eight floors and was a self-built property. Teacher Li Xiao lived on the sixth floor.

Logically, it was unlikely that Shen Yuan would know his teacher's home address, but by chance, the apartment he rented was on the fifth floor of this very building.

One day, Shen Yuan was going home for dinner and happened to run into Li Xiao while going upstairs, only then realizing that she lived on the floor above him.

Shen Yuan first threw the shopping bag into a nearby trash can, then tore off the tag, and carried the handbag upstairs.

"Knock, knock."

Shen Yuan gently knocked on the door of unit 601. Even through the door, he could vaguely smell a faint fragrance, a unique scent found in the homes of refined women.

"I wonder if Teacher Li has a partner. If she does and he's home, that would be awkward."

"A male student showing up alone to visit and giving a bag, it just doesn't feel right no matter how you think about it."

Inside the room, there had been the clanging of cooking utensils. Probably hearing the knock, the person inside walked to the door with footsteps and opened it: "I didn't bring my key today—"

"Shen Yuan, why are you here?"

Li Xiao looked at Shen Yuan in surprise. She was wearing a pink apron and holding a spatula in her right hand, with fine beads of sweat on her forehead.

In the afternoon, Li Xiao was a kind and understanding female teacher, but now, Li Xiao cooking added a touch of domesticity, making her look like a newlywed wife.

"Counselor, excuse the intrusion. Are you cooking?"

Shen Yuan showed a pure smile on his face, but inwardly, he was thinking of other things. Just now, Li Xiao thought someone from home had returned without a key, and her tone of voice was very casual, which strongly suggested she might have a cohabiting partner.

Damn it, what a pity! I wonder which son of a bitch got lucky!

Shen Yuan was thinking about something completely unrelated, even treating that man as an imaginary enemy.

However, Li Xiao was a bit puzzled to see Shen Yuan. Although they lived on different floors of the same building, they had never interacted. To avoid gossip, a female teacher and a male student shouldn't have too frequent contact, so why was he here?

Then she noticed the bag in Shen Yuan's hand and wondered, "Shen Yuan, it's so late, is something wrong?"

"Counselor, you've taken care of me a lot during my three years of university. I used to think that teachers doing these things was just a given, but recently, with so much happening in my family, I've slowly come to understand the help people around me provide, so I should have expressed my gratitude to you long ago."

Shen Yuan held up the bag with both hands and sincerely said, "This is a small token of a student's appreciation. You must accept it."

"No, no, no."

Looking at the presumably valuable bag, Li Xiao quickly shook her head:

"Actually, what you said earlier wasn't wrong. As your Counselor and your teacher, doing these things is my duty, my responsibility. There's no special favoritism. I treat all students equally, so there's no need."

Over these three years, seeing the students under her care mature from naive high school graduates into adults about to enter society, Li Xiao felt a great sense of accomplishment and that her three years of effort had been worthwhile.

Especially Shen Yuan, who seemed to have suddenly grown up, made her, as Shen Yuan's Counselor, feel very gratified.

But that was all. She absolutely couldn't accept the gift, especially since this bag didn't look cheap.
