The light show performed was comparable to a sunset despite the day still being well into the afternoon.
As Moneta stood up, she turned her head back and noticed that the tiny goblin that attacked her earlier still hadn't died. It just lay there. Little droplets of what could be tears hanging at the corners of its eyes. Making the creatures' whimpering all the more heartbreaking as their bodies slowly turned to pixels. Moenta almost felt sorry for it. Pity for the goblin that didn't die as quickly and peacefully as its little goblin friends and family (if that's what goblins even were to each other).
This overwhelming feeling of loss reminded Moneta of her own pain. Which may be what drove her to reach out to the little one in its final moments.
"Are you alright?" Nayu called out, startling Moneta, who had forgotten she was still there.
Tripping on her own foot, she fell flat on top of the goblin, smushing it into green goop that stained her clothes as much as it did the floor. What was supposed to be a sweet and endearing moment between girl and monster quickly turned into an incredibly revolting accident.
" AWWWW!"
It all happened so quickly, like throwing a water balloon or shooting a paintball.
"Your eyes?!"
Moneta didn't know what Nayu meant by that. To her, it didn't feel like the goop had gotten on her eyes. No matter what, she wiped her face with the cuffs of her sleeves. When Moneta pulled out her cracked, screenless phone from her pocket, she noticed that the poor cleaning hadn't changed what had happened to her. Staring back at the dark reflection, she saw her eyes had become golden. She had also noticed some streaks of white appearing across her otherwise black hair. After a few seconds, she also began to feel a sharp, growing pain coming from her head. Horns were growing. Curved like a ram.
"What's happening to me!" Moneta cried out.
Soon, she was literally crying as her body grew as quickly and large as Nayu's summon. Her body faced the sky, yet her hands and feet remained laid out on the Earth. This growing form of hers appeared like a dying goddess rising once again.
While it was clear to Nayu that Moneta was human, she had clearly activated the adventurer system. Accident or not, with the power she was emanating, Moneta was transforming into a boss monster. With each passing breath, the violet light radiating from her body touched her surroundings with such force that it was as if she were a living earthquake.
"I'm sorry, but I can't let this continue", said Nayu.
"Praise Ganymede"
A golden chalice appeared. In it, a golden liquid, the nectar of the gods. This was one of Nayu's main skills that the adventurer system had granted her. By drinking from the cup, she could recover all the magical energy she had just spent on casting her ultimate move. Now she could immediately re-summon her trump card, Aquila.
Now prepared to summon her mighty divine beast, Nayu drew her sword and prepared herself for the sin she would commit.
Looking down, Moneta could see Nayu in the same stance she was in earlier when she attacked the goblins. Panicked, she raised her hand and slapped Nayu. Sending her off flying across the parking lot.
"What are you doing? I'm not a monster!"
The force she used did not instantly kill her, but it did change the trajectory of her summon. Aquila was now aimed at the empty sky. Only a fraction of the shockwave reached Moneta's boss form. However, that small bit of damage was enough to return her to her original size. Short once again, but with golden eyes and monstrous horns.
