SEASON 3, EPISODE 1: "Ashes of Freedom"
Cold Open
Static. Hazy. Silence—then a loud gasp.
[EXT. SHATTERED DOMINION RUINS – NIGHT]
The city lies in ruins. Blackened towers lean like broken bones. Fires crackle beneath the ash-gray sky. Rain begins to fall—not clear, but black. Oil-like. Toxic.
KAEL awakens, coughing violently. His hands tremble. Blood seeps from a fresh gash above his eye. He blinks, dazed, the taste of iron and smoke in his mouth.
KAEL (V.O.)
They said if we took it down, we'd be free.
But nobody tells you what freedom really costs.
He rises, limping. Around him—bodies. Friend and foe. Scattered like dolls after a tantrum.
CLOSE-UP: A burnt Dominion insignia in the mud.
A hand twitches nearby—it's LUMA, barely alive. Her breaths are ragged, her powers flickering like a dying bulb.
Kael rushes to her, ignoring his own pain.
KAEL
Luma. Hey—hey, look at me. You're not dying, alright? Not after all that.
LUMA manages a faint smile.
LUMA (whispering)
We didn't win, did we?
He doesn't answer.
ACT ONE
INT. UNDERGROUND SHELTER – HOURS LATER
A secret bunker—old tech, pre-Dominion. MIRA, CORVIN, and a few survivors tend to wounds. Silence looms between them. Tension. Loss. Confusion.
Corvin punches a wall.
CORVIN
We burned it all down for nothing! And for what? For this?
MIRA turns slowly, her expression deadened.
MIRA
No. We burned it down so no one else would be born inside a cage.
CORVIN (cold)
Lira's dead. Tell her that.
The room goes quiet.
FLASHBACK: BATTLEFIELD, MOMENTS BEFORE LIRA'S DEATH
Lira stands on a Dominion tower, radiating light, pushing back waves of corrupted soldiers. Her final act: a scream that becomes energy, a final burst to protect the others.
Back to Present
Mira clutches a charred pendant. Her fingers tremble, but her eyes burn with vengeance.
ACT TWO
EXT. WASTELAND – OUTSIDE DOMINION WALLS – NIGHT
Far beyond the ruins, the new villain watches through broken binoculars.
THE VILLAIN: VEX
Covered in a cloak of metal shards and bones, his face scarred, eyes glowing faint blue. Around him, mutated beings—humanoid, but twisted—kneel like soldiers.
VEX
Let them believe they're free. That's when they're easiest to break.
He holds a Dominion badge. Burns it.
INT. SHELTER – COMMAND ROOM
A makeshift table is littered with maps, journals, Dominion blueprints. The group debates their next step.
MIRA
We find the gate. The original gate. Dominion was never the center—it was a cage inside something bigger. There's more out there. We need to see it.
KAEL stands.
KAEL
We're not ready. We're scattered, wounded, hunted.
CORVIN
So what? We sit and rot?
They argue—until Luma, wrapped in bloodied bandages, sits up.
LUMA (weakly)
Then we do both. Heal and plan. But first—we bury the dead.
ACT THREE
EXT. MASS GRAVE – NEXT MORNING
Rain continues to fall as they lower bodies—Dominion or not—into the earth. A somber ritual. Each character places
something personal in the grave: a ring, a feather, a patch, a photo.
MIRA gives a eulogy, barely holding back tears.
MIRA
We fought to be human again. To feel, to fall, to lose.
That's what the Dominion took. That's what we reclaim now.
A beat.
KAEL (quietly)
Then let's make sure we don't become the monsters we destroyed.
FINAL SHOT
EXT. MOUNTAINS BEYOND THE DOMINION – NIGHT
The group—Kael, Mira, Corvin, Luma, and four others—stand on a ridge, staring at a vast, unknown land. Red clouds spiral in the distance. Strange lights flicker across the horizon.
They don't speak.
They just walk forward.
BLACK SCREEN.
"THE WORLD IS BIGGER."
