The city lights of New York glittered through the tinted windows of the limousine as Ayla Khan clutched her handbag nervously. Her heart pounded, not because she feared the man she was about to meet, but because her life was about to change forever.
Her father's business had collapsed, leaving her family drowning in debt. There was only one way out—an offer she never imagined she'd accept. "Miss Khan, we've arrived," the driver's voice was smooth, professional. The massive steel-and-glass tower before her loomed like a giant, whispering power and danger.
The moment she stepped into the top floor office, she felt the weight of his gaze. Adrian Blake—tall, sharp, and unreadable, with eyes like cold steel—was seated behind a sleek black desk, signing papers as if the world itself bent to his will.
"Sit," he said, his voice deep, commanding, without looking up.
Ayla obeyed, her fingers tightening around her bag. "Mr. Blake, about this… arrangement," she began, her voice steady though her heart trembled.
Adrian finally lifted his eyes. The intensity in his gaze pinned her in place. "You need money. I need a wife." His tone was flat, as though he were discussing a business merger. "One year. Appearances only. In return, your family's debts vanish."
Ayla swallowed hard. "And if I refuse?"
A ghost of a smirk touched his lips. "Then your family loses everything. Including the house they live in."
Silence stretched between them. Her pride screamed to walk away, but her heart whispered of desperation.
Finally, Ayla spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "Fine. I'll marry you. But on one condition… no one can know this marriage is fake."
Adrian leaned back in his chair, studying her like a predator assessing its prey. "Agreed. But, Ayla…" He stood, towering over her, his presence overwhelming. "You'll find that in my world, nothing stays hidden for long."
Her breath hitched. A storm was brewing, and she had just stepped into its heart.
