A few days had passed since Himeko's collapse.
Her condition had stabilized, thanks to the potion — and john's careful care.
Things at St. Freya Academy had started to calm down again. Maybe it was temporary, but for now… peace had returned.
And in the wake of that storm, someone suggested a beach trip.
Sirin had been the loudest about it, of course — bouncing around the dorms like a little tyrant until even Himeko, still bandaged, gave a quiet nod.
It wasn't much. Just a change of clothes and a little sun.
But for john… it felt like they were finally breathing again.
At least for today.
"Heeey—Mr. Kitty, take this!"
Standing at the border between sea and sand, Raiden Mei scooped up a handful of seawater and flung it toward John with a grin.
Clearly, she hadn't been able to resist. After enduring wave after wave of John 's playful water-ball attacks, she'd finally given in and joined the splash war.
Dodging the light splash was child's play for John , whose feline agility made it easy to twist midair and land cleanly.
He spun gracefully and avoided the incoming water entirely, not a single drop landing on him.
"Too slow. Didn't hit."
But before he could finish that smug little line—
**SPLASH!**
A full glob of water smacked into his back from behind.
The thick, wet *splat* echoed as he froze in place.
Soaked and stunned, John used his tiny paws to adjust his round black glasses, then slowly turned his head.
There she was.
Sirin.
Grinning proudly, the little mischief queen stood with her hands behind her back, her innocent smile practically glowing with victory. Playful. Naughty. Adorable.
"Mr. Kitty, now it's your turn to fight back!"
"Oh, it's on."
John grinned wickedly and launched himself at her like a missile, paws outstretched.
And just like that, round two of the water war erupted — a chaotic back-and-forth of squeals, laughter, and splashes under the golden sky.
No winners. No losers. Just soaked bodies and smiling faces.
By the time the sun dipped behind the horizon, painting the clouds in soft orange light, everyone was exhausted. The group finally dispersed and made their way back to the changing rooms.
John dried his fur with a towel, his gaze drifting to the girls nearby who were still laughing and teasing each other.
A soft smile touched his lips.
"…This really is nice."
He whispered it more to himself than anyone else.
Peace.
Joy.
Moments like this were rare in the world they lived in — and he knew it.
Just as he finished packing up, he noticed someone waiting by the exit.
Sirin stood there quietly, holding a pink gift box in her arms.
John raised a brow. "Your Majesty?"
"This is for you!" she declared, pushing it into his arms.
"What is it?"
"A surprise!" she said seriously. "Open it and you'll see!"
John looked down at the box, then up again — but she was already running away, her voice echoing as she disappeared into the corridor:
"You better like it!!"
John stared at the box, then let out a helpless chuckle.
"Giving me a gift and demanding I like it? How bossy can you get?"
He smiled as he hugged the gift to his chest and whispered with mock formality:
"Yes, ma'am—my Queen."
He walked forward, the box still pressed to his chest, his steps slow but light.
She'd changed.
A lot.
Over this past year... she'd grown more than she even realized.
