Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Yuuji, twenty years old this year, is a typical "three-no" young man: no money, no job, and no girlfriend. He always believed his life would go on just like the result of that lottery ticket he once bought—absolutely nothing. When he had lost everything, the worst—and most fantastical—moment of his life finally arrived.

"I didn't do anything today."Wandering sorrowfully through a narrow alley late at night, carrying what little dinner he had for the day, Yuuji let out a long sigh as he walked."If I don't find a job by tomorrow, I might not even be able to eat anymore."Just thinking about it made Yuuji feel even more depressed. He wasn't particularly handsome, but he was at least decently good-looking—though apparently not enough for a rich woman to take interest in him. As far as he was concerned, eating soft rice (being financially supported by someone else) was still better than starving.

"Careful!""Ah!"A brick suddenly struck Yuuji's head, cutting off his daydreaming. As everything faded to black, the last thing he saw was a meteor streaking across the night sky.

"You're awake."An old voice echoed beside his ears. Though Yuuji could hear it, he couldn't see anything. His eyes were surrounded by total darkness."Don't worry. You can't see anything because you're dead."

"I'm... dead?"At first, Yuuji was a little scared, but part of him thought the old man might just be playing a trick on him. So he didn't take it too seriously.

"Yes, you're dead. But if you agree to do one thing for me, I will bring you back to life."

"What do you want me to do for you?" Yuuji shouted into the void.

"Go to other worlds and protect the people I ask you to protect."

"But I'm just an ordinary guy. How am I supposed to protect anyone?" Yuuji complained.

"I will grant you the ability to change your attributes so that your body becomes compatible with all forms of power. But in return, you will lose your emotions and the ability to express them."

"A three-no guy like me turning into a perfect one? Sounds like a fair trade to me."Yuuji felt it was a worthwhile exchange—giving up emotions for strength.

"However," the voice added, "losing all emotions will almost certainly cause you to fail your mission. In order to make sure you succeed, I will give you one special feeling."

"What kind of feeling?" Yuuji asked.

"You'll find out when the time comes. Now go, my friend. To avoid unnecessary conflict, I will have you take the place of someone in another world. Once the task is complete, you will leave that world, and the person whose body you inhabited will disappear from it for... specific reasons."

"Wait! I never got your name!"Just as Yuuji cried out, a blinding force pulled him toward the light. In that final moment, he asked the mysterious darkness:

"What should I call you?"

"Just call me... God."
