Chapter 2 - The Remnant I Am

Mission Log: Starfall

Date: ????.??.??

Mission Brief: We've lost contact with the Militia. Highly possible that we are at the other ends of the Universe. The explosion with the unknown energy source could've potentially warped only I (KD-0735) and my pilot (Sergeant Jay Carter.) to somewhere we shouldn't be.

Team Composition:

Combat Engineer: Sergeant Jay "Ghost" Carter

KD-0735

Mission Objectives:

Find out more about this planet.

Tend to Jay's wounds.

Establish a makeshift base for now.

Mission Log Entry: After Sergeant Jay Carter had slipped a live grenade into the enemy's pockets, it caused an explosion and at the same time pulled everyone in the vicinity with immense pulling power. Akin to a black hole, everything had became white and my senses along with my sensory technology dulled.

Only then it was established that I seen all the debris falling. We were re-entering an atmosphere at high speeds, with Jay's suit not able to survive such, I had to protect him.

We have now crash-landed into a foreign planet. I've analyzed neighboring planets and stars, and it's nothing that my database recognizes. I suspect that we might be in a whole new universe.

Nothing looks akin to anything my database recognizes, but I'm learning as I grow. Seargent Jay has encumbered numerous injuries, and may be out for a time. It's up to me to protect my pilot.

I will do so. By all means.

End Log Entry

☆꧁✬◦°˚°◦..◦°˚°◦✬꧂☆

With the white flash gone, the sound of wind rushing overtook KD's auditory devices. He couldn't feel, but he could feel the gravity of the situation.

As his visual senses finished rebooting, he was able to see debris and titans all around him. Many men also skyfalling, but it seemed to be that there were also knocked unconscious.

Not too far from him, he was able to spot his pilot freefalling too. A bit uncontrollably as Jay was rendered unconscious. He sure did a lot, but KD couldn't help but question, was blowing up the entire thing the best decision?

No time to think however, KD pushed further enough to the point where Jay was now safe in his grasp. Now, the easy part was accomplished. The hard part was the fact that somehow the two needed to survive.

As KD rapidly began to fall in speed, he was entering the planet's atmosphere, as a red burning hue could be seen over the titan. His systems began to overclock and overheat with each passing second.

He convinced himself he only needed to survive for much longer, and then the constant burning would go away. However, with other objects also entering the atmosphere as well, he was sure enough that the people here would have a easy time being able to identify anyone amongst this group.

That is to say, if there are people here on this planet. KD could easily perform a scan over this entire globe if he wanted to, but since his systems are currently being overclocked, he doesn't have the ability nor the time to do something like that.

After a few more moments and close calls, KD had successfully entered the planet, no more of a burning sensation anymore at least.

That's good, but now he had to brace for a tough landing onto the surface of a planet.

Descending fast and hard, KD braced himself as Jay was safe in his clutches. And once the titan did touch ground, a large shockwave could be felt around the area.

KD skidded for a couple of seconds before evenly coming to a halt.

There, at the crash site, laid KD, and in his clutches, his pilot.

Jay Carter.

KD slowly got up, he sustained quite a few injuries. A few mechanical errors were going on, shots that have been implemented in.

But nothing too dangerous, if anything. Jay's injuries were potentially far worse.

Speaking of that, KD quickly scanned his pilot, assessing his injuries.

Bleeding, fractured left shoulder, bruising, and unconscious.

KD whirred lowly, disappointed that things have come to his. It was very rare to see his pilot this injured. He can't even remember the last time he was this injured.

No matter, what KD needed to do now was protect Jay at all costs. No matter what.

Upon a second scan to make sure everything is A-OK, he noticed Jay's body oddly illuminating.

The blue shine from his helmet is gone, and was just grey, to show that he is confirmed unconscious and the CPU in such is offline.

Scanning again, he noticed an odd energy flowing through his veins. Scanning a third time, KD's database was able to recognize it.

Of course, it was 90% similar to the energy trapped in the pyramid earlier from before.

However, KD says 90% because unlike before, the energy was trapped in a veil of sorts.

Now...KD couldn't even believe the conclusion he was coming too, but...

He assumed that his pilot, Jay, inhabited and is currently hosting this energy.

Upon further inspection, he realized that the energy was hurting him whenever he tried to touch it last time.

Instead, it was cooperating with his body. Powering his cells to the max, but he realized that it went more in depth.

As potent as it was, KD noticed that it could break down to small, small levels. Possibly molecular.

This, "energy" only reacted with Jay's electrons, leaving the protons and neutrons alone.

KD found it weird that it ONLY interacted with his electrons, but nothing weird of the sort was happening, so he decided to leave it alone.

Carrying Jay, his hatch opened up and he stuffed him in there to keep him safe. Deep in the forest, with nothing but trees to keep them safe.

Hopefully they don't run into anything. But for now, another scan will do.

Scanning the entire planet now, his database was filled tremendously. To sane amounts that this overflowing information could possibly not exist.

As KD then began his trek, he thought back on this whole ordeal. Was it really worth it?

They are nowhere near anything remotely that the two old recognize. This planet is different from Jay's home planet.

Continuing to walk, he also thought about the Negative Energy Jay was hosting. Was he just a carrier, or was he actually producing?

So many questions, but yet little answers.

Perhaps not like Jay could answer them as well. KD was pretty sure he had no idea what was going on as well.

Finding a nearby cave, that looked well-lit in certain circumstances. And big enough for the titan, KD entered, and sat down.

Only a matter of time before Jay is nursed back to health...

Only a matter of time...

☆꧁✬◦°˚°◦..◦°˚°◦✬꧂☆

At the slightest sound of rustling, Jay Carter awoke.

Quickly unholstered his pistol, his eyes shot open a moment later, but winced at the sudden action.

The bright lights, seated comfortably, he realized he was inside KD.

Sighing, he holstered his pistol and slowly stretched. Making sure not to aggravate his injury even further.

"JAY CARTER, YOU'RE FINALLY AWAKE." KD spoke within the cockpit, he seemed to be overjoyed a tad bit.

The pilot yawned, "Fortunately. What happened when I was out?"

"A LOT."

"...? and that is...?"

"WE ARE NO LONGER ON FAERUN, WE SEEM TO HAVE BEEN WARPED TO A PLANET WITH INTELLIGENT LIFEFORMS. KNOWN AS REMNANT."

Jay slowly took all of this information in, noting it. Perhaps exposing that energy reactor and exploding it wasn't a good idea.

He also felt energized too, a bit too energized. Like he just got shot with adrenaline, but for now it felt like an eternal feeling of adrenaline.

He didn't know when it would end, but he assumed that it would only be matter of time before he adjusted to it.

"Far from home, huh? Not the worst predicament..." Jay said shortly after, considering their options to be short.

Not like he could contact the Militia, for all he knew they were probably on the far ends of the ever-expanding universe.

The two were alone, (minus whoever else was on the planet), so good luck getting used to that. First things first, he needed to leave.

Disembarking from KD, he touched ground on the planet, although albeit still in pain of course. It's died down much now thanks to the eternal adrenaline he's feeling. He hopes it could last forever, however.

He was about to take off his helmet, before he questioned the planet's oxygen levels. Was there even enough? Better to be safe than sorry, so he left it on. No matter how bloodied or bruised or battered he may be.

"Nice cave you picked out," Jay had told KD, now fully inspecting the cave. It looked big enough, not to the point where you could get lost in it, but good enough.

The best part about it is that the cave wasn not even that deep. It was kind like somewhat a cave, like someone just took a scoop out of it. There, it became good enough shelter to take coverage from any rain or hide from any potential enemies.

"MY DIAGNOSTICS SEE THAT YOU ARE CLEARLY IN PAIN, Jay YOU SHOULDN'T PUSH YOURSELF ANY FURTHER." KD tells him, as he too, also raises his arm. Specifically his left to show that Jay shouldn't do any actions with his left side.

Jay sees this and shoos him away, "C'mon. We are on a planet with unknown lifeforms, we might just be seeing aliens."

"I'm 17 now, you can't baby me anymore KD." The pilot adds on, but the titan rejects such.

"NEGATIVE. AFTER SCANNING THE SOLAR SYSTEM, I HAVE CORRECTLY ALIGNED YOUR BIRTHDAY TO MATCH THIS PLANET'S ROTATION AROUND IT'S DESGINATED STAR. YOUR AGE HAS BEEN ACCUSTOMED TO 16 YEARS, 8 MONTHS, 12 DAY."

Jay facepalmed, he couldn't believe it. He just got younger in the matter of minutes thanks to this planet. He's not entirely sure if he should go by this age now, but given the fact that he once saw buildings on the horizon...

...there has to be someone here.

Aliens or humans, it doesn't matter, he just wants to get back home.

But first, he has to play his cards carefully. He doesn't want to rush head in first without a plan, 16 or 17, it doesn't matter, he needs to get back home, ASAP.

But the question is...how?

Stumped with the question that he came up with himself, he sat on the grassy ground. Pondering and lost in thought.

It would be a bad idea to head out and seek help, what if this entire planet was just a IMC Underground? Lurking with IMC men?

That's when Jay facepalmed again. KD. He could use KD. He scans practically everything and anything. He wouldn't be surprised if this entire's planet was already in his database, shit-probably the entire galaxy.

"KD, scan for any IMC titans, technology, anything that closely resembles them on this planet." He asked, KD's lights flashed yellow before they dimmed down. A quick and easy process.

"NONE. IMC DEBRIS SCATTETRED ALL OVER THE PLANET."

"So...? Does that mean that the IMC are here on this planet?"

"NEGATIVE. IMC DEBRIS TRAVELLED WITH US FROM THE EXPLOSION."

Jay was awestruck by this so much that he leaned back a bit, "Are you serious? Are there any survivors?"

KD's lights flashed yellow briefly before dimming down again.

"MASS CASULTIES. CALCULATED TO... 89. 0 WOUNDED. 2 SURVIVORS."

Jay slowly got up. 89 casualties? It's insane, he's not sure how he and KD survived, but to hear that the two survivors are still alive and kicking somehow is good.

Perhaps he could find their coordinates, bonus points if they have a titan with them. In times like these, and charting the unknown, your enemy might as well be your best friend.

"Great, 2 out of 91 total excluding us I'm assuming. Find their coordinates, we gotta find 'em. No time to waste now." Jay had said as he made his way to embark onto KD.

But the hatch wasn't opening.

The pilot was a bit confused at this, and so, he questioned.

"KD? C'mon. No time to waste, we gotta find them."

"UNABLE TO DO SO. UNABLE TO FIND COORDINATES."

"Huh? Why not? You can scan everything in this world but you can trace two survivors?" Jay was slowly becoming agitated with this.

"SEARGENT Jay. THERE WERE 91 TOTAL THAT HAD BEEN TRANSPORTED TO THIS PLANET REMNANT. IMC FORCES SUFFERED 89 CASULTIES. AMONG THOSE HAD BEEN RIFLEMAN, THE IMC GENERAL, AND TITANS. SCATTERED ALL OVER THE PLANET."

Jay tapped his foot repeatedly, out of patience already.

"Okay...? What are you trying to get at?"

KD kept silent, before speaking again moments later.

"Jay. WE ARE THE ONLY TWO SURVIVORS."

Jay's eyes widened under his helmet, he couldn't fairly believe it. Him and KD were the only survivors? No way...but then again. There has never been a moment where KD's scanning has failed him.

His hands quickly got the top of his helmet as he kept them there, the stakes of this whole ordeal had suddenly gotten higher than anticipated.

"Oh God..." Jay muttered out. He backed away from KD and began to walk around the general area, not quite believing it.

He refused to believe that an explosion just like that killed so many. The killing is not what he was worried about, he's grown accustomed to that many times over. It practically became second nature to him.

Not to say he's a killing machine or anything.

BUT, the fact that they were the only two alive filled him with steady dread and anxiety. All alone on a different planet far from the reaches of his home. When will the Militia realize the two are gone?

What about Talon? And the others? Were they here too?

Unfortunately not, if so, KD would've said something already. No point in asking and experiencing even more dread to be added on.

"Okay..." Jay began to slowly breathe in and out...practicing his breathing. He was focused and determined to get out of here by any means.

Just about when he was about to open his mouth, he heard rustling. His sixth sense instantly allowed him to hear and point out which direction it came from.

Quickly drawing his pistol, he noticed a black creature. With white padding atop of it's head. For some reason, he felt like this thing was being attracted by...him.

He shot once, and that was all it took. The sound made the fowl and things of that nature leave the trees, for the gunshot was quite loud. However, as Jay expected the beast to fall limp and slowly die...

...it began to fade away.

Jay looked back at KD, "Are you watching this?"

The titan nodded and the pilot looked back, it's black aura fading and going along with the wind.

He was about to holster his pistol until his sixth sense reached out to him again. Hearing more and more rustling.

"KD...I think they brought friends along..." Jay said as more and more of those creatures began to come out of hiding.

KD got up and unsheathed his ronin blade. The loud thuds of his footsteps apparently did not make those creature falter away.

Jay watched every angle of his, to make sure he could not give them the upper hand. They may be unknown to the pilot, but this isn't his first rodeo of getting cornered.

"Ladies, ladies, one at a time." He attempted to coerce the crowd, but their growls, the snaps of their mouths and also their aggressive behavior did not allow that to happen.

Whatever it became of, Jay and KD were going to make sure they had their way.

☆꧁✬◦°˚°◦..◦°˚°◦✬꧂☆

"You sure this is the right way, Ruby?" Yang asked, as she scratched her head. Following her sister, she seemed adamant to see the crash site that had been covered globally in the media.

Foreign pieces of tech coming from the sky in a white flash, who wouldn't want that? Atlas sure would...but all of their plans to decipher said tech has ended in failure, it's expected that the best chance they have is in a couple of decades.

The crash site that TEAM RWBY was going to was kept to be a secret from the public. Right near Beacon Academy, it had special access granted to those in the government of course.

Yeah, the government hides something from humanity. Surely not the first time this has been done...right?

"We aren't even supposed to be out this late..." Blake says, she seemed on edge, constantly watching around her.

The squad was in their normal battle attire, carrying their weapons as well, who knows what they could run into? Aliens!

As it was dark out, Ruby managed to see the yellow tape that stopped most sane people from entering deeper into the forest.

"It's been a couple days, pushing a week. You think they would wrap this up?" Weiss harshly commented, the fact that most of these things bothered her, staying out, going out past curfew, trying to find stuff she had no business to?

It all irked her.

Ruby raised the tape and looked back at the group.

"C'mon guys! What if we find a rare ore and we all strike it rich!" She pumped her fist in the air, but the only one who followed her motion was Yang.

Once the blonde saw the cold daemons of Blake and Weiss, she coughed and gave a hard stare as well.

Ruby being surprised gave a silent 'oh', before speeding off deeper into the forest.

"And just like that...she's gone. Oh, Oum." Yang facepalmed before raising the tape and getting deeper into the forest as well.

Blake looked at Weiss, and the Ice Queen stared back, her arms crossed.

"Surely you aren't going there too? I suppose you are the most level-headed one out of Yang and Ruby...besides me of course."

Blake, if she did had a smile, was already turned into a neutral expression. She sighed, and walked towards the forest, raising the tape, and then entering deep into the forest.

Weiss, despised at this sudden act, stomped her foot on the ground and looked away, still crossing her arms.

"No. No way am I going deep in that forest!" Weiss shouted, and expected her teammates to come back.

They never did.

Weiss went in anyways.

By the time Team RWBY finally were together, they noticed one thing.

A large cave, and multiple bullet shells on the floor.

Okay, maybe that's more than just one thing, but the point still stands. The team spread far out to investigate.

"Bullet shells, decorated cave, random strands of technology. Do you really think that the government attempted to hide this...or was this someone's doing?" Blake asked, the more she assessed the area, the more she saw of human remains.

Ruby inspected it as well, as she began to carry a pistol that was left around. "This looks very...uh, alien-y?"

She pointed it out for the rest to see, and the other three concluded. However, they totally did not expect someone to sneak up on her.

With cloaking technology, the being stepped up very carefully. Every step of the sound he made halted and silenced, when he rose to strike, Ruby anticipated very quickly.

Pulling out Crescent Rose in a heartbeat, it quickly entered scythe form and clashed with a blade, the sound of iron grinding and sparks flying sent the other three into a state of surprise.

The being then pushed Ruby back with the clear strength advantage, and Ruby was aligned with the others, her scythe being wielded tightly.

As the being uncloaked themselves, they were armed with a bowie knife, and their helmet protruded colors of blue. Lighting up in the dark atmosphere.

As the two parties were clearly seen standing, looking at each other. At any moment they could strike...and when the being shifted his foot slightly.

"Pr...Predator?" Ruby asked. He guard slightly dropped. It was very unlike for her to drop her guard during an intense moment like this.

The being was also confused as well, however he did not drop his guard, but instead became even more confused that he eventually did anyways.

"W-wha...Predator?" He shot back.

"Yeah...! Are you the Predator! You know, the one from the movies?!" Ruby readied her scythe yet again.

The being shook his head, "What? No! The Predator has a larger mask than I do!"

"Oh yeah? How do you know that? Unless...you've worked with them!"

"Anybody has watched the movies smartass!" He shot back, and then sighed heavily. His guard dropped, he realized these group of females weren't even serious at all.

Seeing that Ruby dropped her guard fully and her scythe was no longer a problem, it caused the other three to process what just happened.

"W-who are you...?" Blake asked, expecting an answer, but got a different one instead.

The being pointed the bowie knife at the four of them, "I have a better question, who the HELL are you guys?"

"Glad you asked! We are Team RWBY! We currently all go to Beacon Academy, and there we will become the best huntre-"

Weiss had quickly covered the mouth of Ruby, and her remaining words came out muffled as anything could be. Ruby was perhaps too trusting of a stranger she just met, the information she spewed out could potentially harm them.

The being stood there, a bit quiet, it was apparent that he even knew himself that he wasn't supposed to know that information, but whatever it was, he would make sure it could play into his advantage.

"You guys look...human, enough." He later commented, expecting for there to be aliens, but hey, human enough. Except for the one in black. He has his suspicions about her too.

"Human enough? Are you an alien under that suit?" Yang barked out, cockily smiling while hoping she wasn't right. It would be scary enough to come into contact with an alien.

He shook his head, "Me? Alien? No...I'm human just like the rest of you guys."

His sixth sense told him there was no danger, that these four group of females posed no danger to him. If they did, he would've offed them one by one the moment they entered the premises.

Because simply for the fact that his sixth sense didn't consider them a threat, he didn't even realize that they were in his domain.

He took a seat on a carved wood, he then sheathed his bowie knife on his leg and kept his arms crossed.

"I'm not obligated to give you any more information about me, but...since you guys are the fact humanoid contact I've had in a while, I might as well strike it now..."

Team RWBY were confused as what he could be talking about. He seemed dangerous, but then again his attitude and demeanor, it felt like he wasn't even in danger. It felt like he didn't even want to fight or anything.

"I...I...ugh..." He couldn't find the words to describe his situation. The past week had been nothing but mental anguish for him and another person.

But for some reason, even though she couldn't see directly into his eyes...she felt that emotion. That exhausted emotion.

"You...you're not from here, are you?" Ruby asked, which caused sudden surprise from Yang, Blake, and Weiss.

His head shot back forth to the girl, and he eventually caved in, his arms slapping on his thighs as a result.

"Yeah, you got me. I'm not from here." He concluded.

Yang's curiosity shot even more. "So...yer an alien?"

"Just because I'm not from here doesn't mean I'm an alien...well, maybe it does. But I can guarantee you I'm a human." He had shot back.

Weiss crossed her arms, she wasn't really pleased with this guy. "How do we know we can trust you? Or possibly lying?"

The being sat there, and unholstered his bowie knife. He threw it to them as it landed right in front of them, along with his pistol.

"There. I won't ask you to do the same, that way you have the advantage." He had said, and also continued.

"I'm Jay Carter. I believe that certain mistakes of mine has lead me to your world, and so far...I don't have any idea on how to get back." The pilot says, and he continues to spew more information.

With a wave of his hand, loud thuids could be heard as a being very large revealed themselves from inward parts of the forest.

"That's KD. My titan, my companion, my metal-in-arms, my 'bot, my everything. Here, we've been stranded for the past couple of days."

With this overload of information, and multiple new things coming into play, Team RWBY was shocked and surprised.

Unable to utter a single word, one of them.

Yang slightly opened her mouth, "Okay...what the actual fuck?"

☆꧁✬◦°˚°◦..◦°˚°◦✬꧂☆

Jay along with Team RWBY had made their way to Beacon Academy, with KD being flown their way there.

"You sure this...Ozpin guy can help me?" He asked.

"If there's anybody who has the knowledge of these sorts at least...your best chance might be him." Blake answered.
