Chapter 4 - chapter 4 : the Library

Empire of Light, City of Orestir

After the dazzling white light faded, Kim Jihoon found himself in a body that wasn't his. He was sitting behind a half-circle wooden desk, with a decorated wooden teacup, scattered notebooks and papers, and variously sized maps spread across its surface, along with quill pens and ink bottles. He looked around and saw tall, numerous bookshelves in a wide room that was somewhat worn and in need of care.

Kim Jihoon walked to the library's entrance door and saw his reflection in the glass.

He was wearing a white linen shirt, a long brown coat, coarse fabric trousers, and round reading glasses covering vivid green eyes. Seeing his new self stirred his memory, and he recognized his new identity:

"Elios Myren. I'm a humble old librarian. My income is modest and my only excitement comes from books and novels. I have only a younger sister and a handful of friends."

Kim Jihoon smiled to himself and continued,

"Not so different from my previous life..."

He heard the sound of something hitting the ground behind him. One of the books had fallen from the bookshelf behind his modest desk. He walked toward it, picked it up, and glanced at the title:

"Overseer's guidebook"

"I don't remember this book. Could someone have placed it here by mistake?"

Elios Myren sat in his chair and opened Overseer's guidebook.

The moment he opened it, the air around him became heavy. He felt as if time had frozen for a few seconds, then letters and words floated out of the book, circling the library like birds soaring through a vast sky. His body shivered with an unfamiliar chill, and he felt the ground tremble beneath him as though the library were a living being. In an instant, the shelves extended endlessly upward, and the library expanded into a space far beyond imagination. The room seemed to have no end, and the horizon darkened gradually.

Books floated and moved on their own, flying off shelves and settling into others—like magic. Elios looked down and saw the floor had become a reflective surface, like a mirror or a frozen, clear lake. Tables and chairs were scattered throughout this vast sea of books.

"Special ability activated."

That was the message Elios heard in his mind.

"This place is my special ability? But what exactly is this space? It must be related to the fate I chose..."

A red system screen appeared in front of Elios's eyes, displaying the following information:

Elios Myrn, Librarian

Special Ability: Overseer's Space

Current Objective: Tend to the Library

Reward: ????????????????

Elios stared at the current objective, puzzled.

"What does it mean to tend to the library? Does it mean organizing and cleaning it? If this space counts as part of the library, then that's impossible..."

As he walked through the room, one hand on his chin and the other in his pocket, pondering the system's goal, he noticed that the Overseer's Guidebook was still floating beside his head, following him, still open.

"This book seems like a gateway to this special space... I need to make sure I keep it with me. I'm not sure if this place is exclusive to me. I have to stay cautious—there's still so much I don't know about this world."

While he was lost in thought, a large, thick book stopped in front of him, suspended in the air. Its title:

"Geography of the Modern World"

As soon as Elios touched it, the book opened on its own and the pages flipped until they settled quietly.

Elios began reading without delay.

The Three Known Continents of the World:

Elenor – The Empire of Light

Silvarniana – The Eastern Continent

Nevermore – The Accursed Land

The Three Oceans of the World:

The Black Ocean

The Forgotten Ocean

The Whispering Ocean

Silvarniana is located in the eastern part of the world. Known since ancient times as the Eastern Continent, it is the largest in size. It contains four main kingdoms:

The Kingdom of Drakolin

The Kingdom of Celestial Bodies

The Kingdom of the Phoenix

The Kingdom of Yormungand

To the east lies the Whispering Ocean. At its southernmost point is the convergence of the Forgotten and Whispering Oceans. To the west lies the Sea of Gold.

North of Silvarniana lies the Sea of Ash.

The Eastern Continent is divided into two regions:

Northern Region:

Kingdom of Drakolin

Kingdom of Celestial Bodies

Southern Region:

Kingdom of Jormungand

Kingdom of the Phoenix

Nevermore – The Accursed Land

Nevermore is located north of the Sea of Ash. It has the lowest population due to its dangerous living conditions. It is bordered to the west by the Whispering Ocean and to the east by the Black Ocean. Its northern border is shared by both the Whispering and Forgotten Oceans.

Nevermore has no system of governance. It contains scattered villages and tribes that have existed since ancient times.

The Empire of Light – Elenor

Located west of the Sea of Gold, which separates it from the Eastern Continent. It is the smallest in size. To its south lies the Forgotten Ocean, and to the far west, the Black Ocean. The Sea of Ash borders it to the north.

It contains five major cities.

As Elios was absorbed in reading, he heard a bell ringing in his mind, followed by the creaking of a door opening. A vision appeared in his mind: a middle-aged man entering the library where he worked.

He let the Geography of the Modern World float where it was and quickly grabbed the Overseer's Guidebook, closing it firmly.

The scene before him shifted faster than a finger snap, and he found himself back at his desk in the librarian's corner—as if waking from a dream.

He saw a man browsing the shelves. Elios stood up, adjusted his round glasses with a push of his finger, walked over, and spoke with a smile:

"Welcome, sir. Are you looking for a specific book?"
