Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

The door creaked open, and a stranger stood before them. Sir Backwood's expression turned from anger to surprise, while Matilda's eyes widened in fear. The stranger, a man with a rugged face and a hint of mystery, stepped inside.

"Please, do let me interrupt," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I see you're in the middle of a... discussion."

father's eyes narrowed. "Who are you? What are you doing here?"

The stranger smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "My name is Marcus.

And you have a nice mansion I must say

well I'm here to reveal a little secret about your family dynamics."

Matilda's face paled,

giving a warning glance she tried to speak, but Marcus continued, "You see, Matilda wasn't entirely truthful about her past.

She was already pregnant when she met you."

The room fell silent, father's eyes fixed on Matilda in shock. Marcus continued, "Matilda has been involved with someone else, a man who couldn't provide for her financially. So, she made a choice, a choice she felt that would change her life forever."

The living room was silent, thick with tension. Mathilda sat on the edge of the couch, her fingers twisted tightly in her lap. father

Marcus stood tall, calm, with a folded envelope in one hand and a tired smirk on his face. He looked around at the small gathering

"You all deserve the truth," Marcus began, his voice clear. "I didn't want to come here like this, but I have no choice."

Mathilda's eyes widened

He ignored her warning signals. Instead, he opened the envelope and pulled out several sheets of paper.

"These," he said, holding them up, "are bank transfer records. From Matilda. To me. Regularly. For years."

father's brows furrowed. "For what?"

"She was paying me to disappear," Marcus said. "To stay out of her life. Out of your life. Out of your child's life."

Mathilda stood up abruptly. "That's not true!"

But Marcus was already pulling out his phone.

"Let me refresh your memory," he said. He pressed play. A recording of Matilda's voice crackled into the room:

"Marcos, I'm begging you. Please don't ruin what I've built. I'll send you the money tomorrow. Just don't show up again. Backwoods thinks the child is his."

father's face drained of color.

Then Marcus pulled out a small photo. A faded, slightly crumpled snapshot of him and Matilda in each other's arms —

"This was a few weeks before she left me," Marcus said. "

Mathilda's voice was shaky. "That was years ago. People move on your were just my ex boyfriend."

"But truth doesn't," Marcos snapped.

Then he added, "I don't want revenge. I just want clarity. And if I'm wrong, I'll walk away forever."

He reached into his coat and pulled out a white paper — an official request form.

"I've already booked a DNA test appointment at Mercy Hospital. Tomorrow. 9 a.m."

Emily raised an eyebrow. "That sounds… responsible of you."

Marcus smiled faintly. "Yes. Except it's a trap."

Everyone froze.

"What do you mean?" Backwood asked, voice low.

"I wanted to see if Matilda would come clean before the truth came out. She didn't. So tomorrow, we go to the hospital — but not for a real test. I've already spoken to the lab. We'll see who shows up... and who tries to stop the truth from surfacing."

Matilda sank into the couch looking defeated.

"She lied to you. And to me. But you have the right to know if the child you're raising… is even yours."
