I closed my door quickly before the weight of my parents'words flattened me down like a heavy stone. I couldn't shake the cold feeling creeping through my chest—the kind that whispered, You don't belong here.
Just as I dropped in bed, a sudden chill curled around the room. The closet door creaked open on its own.
"Well, well, if it isn't the human equivalent of a burnt-out lightbulb," a voice sneered from the shadows.
I blinked with my heart pounding. "Who—what?"
From the darkness stepped a pale figure, blue orbs, side ways hat, hoodie body translucent but with eyes sharp enough to slice through his gloom. The ghost grinned, folding his arms. "Name's Remi. And congratulations—you're officially my new project."
I rubbed my temples. "Great. First, my parents act like I'm some kind of failure. Now I get haunted by a sarcastic ghost. Just perfect."
Remi's grin widened. "Hey, don't knock it till you've tried it. Besides, someone's gotta help you stop being the forgotten light. Lucky me."
I sighed, half amused despite himself. "Yeah, lucky you."
I stared at Remi for I I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that there was a ghost in my closet—and that this ghost had zero intention of being polite.
"So, you're stuck with me now?" I asked, half joking, half resigned.
"Stuck? Nope. I'm here because you're a walking disaster magnet," Remi said, floating closer with a smirk. "And maybe, just maybe, I see some potential beneath all that awkwardness."
I snorted. "Potential? That's a new one. Usually people just see a no-magic loser."
"Yeah, well, those people don't get sarcasm, wit, or the luxury of being dead," Remi replied, arms crossed. "Stick with me, kid. You might just learn how to survive around here without accidentally setting yourself on fire."
I. couldn't help but grin. For the first time that day, maybe things wouldn't be so terrible.
"Alright, Remi," he said, sitting up. "Let's see what you've got."
"what's gonna happen then?" I asked
"you'll see tomorrow..
if you don't die" Remi said with a smirk on his face
