The moment the chamber door closed behind Marlick, Metheea stopped pretending to be calm.
She pushed herself upright beside Azrayel and listened until the High Chancellor's footsteps passed the guards outside.
"Polo. Yise."
The temporary door opened again.
Polo entered first, still carrying the reports he had brought earlier. Yise followed and secured the door behind them.
"Go to the interrogation room yourself," Metheea told Polo. "Confirm that the questioning has stopped before they move the prisoner."
Polo inclined his head.
"Remove the council's interrogator and collect every written record made during the questioning. I want the clerks' notes, the physician's account, and every answer attributed to the prisoner. Have copies made before anything is returned to the chancellery."
"Marlick's clerks may refuse to surrender them."
"They can refuse after you have the copies."
Polo adjusted the reports beneath his arm. "Where do you want the prisoner taken?"
