Chapter 8 - Chapter 4: The New Member( part 1)

At last… the horrifying events of that night were over.

A new morning dawned, yet the city's atmosphere hadn't returned to normal. From roadside cafés to the giant LED screens in the heart of Yokohama, news of the "mysterious explosion" in Alley No. 7 continued to spread at an alarming pace.

Television broadcasts showed chilling footage of the scene: charred debris scattered across the ground, flames still smoldering among the ruins, and the acrid stench of burning oil and twisted metal lingering in the air. Reporters in protective suits, barely able to hide their nerves, spoke in urgent tones:

"...According to the latest report, the area has been completely sealed off for investigation. All signs point to the aftermath of a brutal battle involving unidentified high-tech weaponry…"

The media dubbed it "The Yokohama Alley No. 7 Incident." A vague name that utterly failed to convey the sheer magnitude of what had really happened.

Because… RAGI-01, the steel monstrosity that once brought terror to the city—had been annihilated.

No one knew exactly what had taken place. No security cameras had captured the full sequence of events. For twelve whole minutes, all signals in the area were completely disrupted. And when the police, investigative robots, and AGI special units finally arrived, all they found were shattered metal fragments, burnt-out circuits, scorched earth—and a heat that still clung faintly to the air.

It looked like something that had crawled straight out of hell.

Among those present at the very end, there was only one surviving witness.

A girl. Her long hair disheveled. Her body battered but still standing.

Her name—Arisawa Misaki.

Naturally, she was immediately summoned by the police, interrogated by investigative robots, and questioned repeatedly by special agents. They wanted answers. What happened? Who—or what—destroyed RAGI-01? What kind of technology had been used?

But… I had a different thought.

There's no way she told them the whole truth.

Maybe she made up a story—that the robot triggered its self-destruct mode, or malfunctioned mid-combat. A theory vague enough, plausible enough… not to be questioned too deeply.

But I knew.

I saw it with my own eyes.

I saw her body emit a strange light… saw her crush that massive hunk of metal with nothing but sheer force of will. A power no muscle or machine could ever produce.

A power that could only be called—supernatural.

And I was certain…

She had no intention of telling anyone about it.

Not even me—the only person left who knew part of the truth—could begin to explain what truly happened that day.

All I knew was this:From that moment on… my life would never be the same.

Right now, I'm still on medical leave, recovering at home. My head spins a little if I bend down too quickly, and my ribs still ache whenever I laugh too hard. The doctor told me to rest for at least another week before returning to school—but knowing my "bull-headed" body, I'll be fine much sooner than that.

Still, staying home gave me a lot of time to think.

After everything I witnessed… a new realization dawned on me:

RAGIs like RA-01… are truly dangerous.

Not in the way serial killers or bloodthirsty maniacs are. But dangerous in a way that transcends human standards. Their strength, their calculation speed, their adaptability… Everything about them is on a different level.

Sooner or later, they'll rule this world.

Not because they're evil.

But because… they evolve too fast.

So fast… that humans simply won't be able to keep up.

That's the truth.

Speaking of staying home…

There's one "small" development I haven't mentioned yet. A new twist in my quiet life.

My family just gained a new member.

Sounds like we had a newborn, right? Nope. Not even close.

That new member—none other than Arisawa Misaki, sixteen years old, the same age as me, now living in the same house as me and Hiyori under the… let's call it the title of "reluctant relative" by special permission.

In other words:A girl with psychic powers, who single-handedly demolished a battle-grade RAGI, is now living under my roof.

Sounds like something out of science fiction?

Yeah, I think so too.

I even made her take a part-time job at Coffee Fit Café—both to help with finances and so I could keep an eye on her. Not that I fully understand why I was pretending to be so morally upright.

The truth is…Every time I see her, I still can't feel at ease.Not because I'm afraid.But because I'm curious.

What is she, really?A human?Or something that has transcended humanity altogether?

And the strangest thing—she never said a single word about that night.

No mention of the battle.

No question about RA-01.

No explanation for the superhuman powers I personally witnessed.

It's as if… that night never even happened.

And maybe, just maybe…I'm the only one who knows the truth.

To welcome our "new member," we decided to throw a small party at home. Nothing fancy—just a few simple homemade dishes, some dessert, and soda instead of alcohol. But the atmosphere… was genuinely warm and joyful.

I even invited my closest underclassman—Hoshigawa Renji—to join the fun. The guy practically sprinted over the moment he heard, dragging along a mountain of snacks and a Bluetooth speaker to "get the party vibes going," as he put it.

Our tiny living room quickly filled with laughter and chaos.

"Cheers! One-two-three—cheers! Two-three—drink!!"

Everyone shouted in unison, plastic cups clinking as soda sprayed across the table. The food? Let's not even talk about it—it was a complete mess, especially after Renji started showing off his "chopstick dance" to hype up the crowd.

I stood up, raised my lemonade like a commander addressing an army.

"To celebrate the newest member of our family—Arisawa Misaki!!!" I shouted with gusto.

Everyone turned toward Misaki. She simply smiled—a soft smile, gentle like morning dew on flower petals—and nodded her thanks.

She's always like that. Composed. Polite.Even in the most chaotic moments, her eyes remain calm—like an autumn lake untouched by wind, as if nothing could ever disturb her mind.

I looked at her for a while.

Then, suddenly, I stood straighter, my expression shifting to something more serious. My smile faded.

"Hey, Misaki," I said, my voice no longer playful.

"We're family now. There's something I need to ask you."

She tilted her head slightly, long black hair cascading over her shoulder with the motion.

"You're calling me by name already?" she teased, eyebrow raised.

Then, smirking faintly:"Well, I guess that makes sense. In that case, I'll call you Tomokatsu-chan."

I immediately grimaced—like I'd just heard the most unforgivable insult.

"Ugh, chan?! Kun is fine, thanks," I muttered, my face scrunched like a steamed bun that had been squashed.

But soon, my expression turned serious again.I sat up straight, hands resting on my knees, eyes locked on Misaki.

"I want to know… who you really are," I said, my voice low.

"You're hiding something, aren't you? Tell us the truth."

Right away, my little sister—Hiyori—jumped in too, her playful smile now replaced with determined seriousness.

"Yeah! Answer the question we asked you at the hospital, Misaki-chan!"

Misaki let out a quiet sigh, as if she'd been expecting this moment all along. She placed her drink on the table—gently, but with purpose. Then stood up slowly.

In that instant—her eyes changed.

Gone was the gentle, reserved girl. Now her gaze was sharp, alert—like a warrior preparing to unveil her true identity.

"Sigh… You two siblings sure are persistent," she said, her voice weary but still commanding.

"Fine. Listen closely."

She looked up. In her eyes gleamed a strange light—a light that didn't belong to this world. Like a star flickering deep within the darkness.

"I'm Arisawa Misaki, as you already know. But what you don't know is…"

She paused for a moment—one second that felt like a thousand years.

"I'm not a normal person."

A heavy silence fell over the room. Even the music from the speaker seemed to disappear. All eyes were on her—this girl who had seemed so normal… yet now revealed a terrifying truth.

"I possess the ability to move objects with my mind."

She said it without hesitation. Her voice sliced through the stillness like a blade.

"In other words… I am a Telekinesis."
