Chapter 27 - Teaming up

Finally arriving the glass city, Lynx turned to face them.

'We're here,' he said, his voice low and measured. 'And as you can see, it appears to be a real city.' He glanced toward Zara, who was edging closer, her hand reaching out to touch the glassy surface. 'You can try to touch it,' he added, 'but your hand will only pass through.'

Zara tucked her arm in anyway, amused at how her hand seemed to disappear from view, she turned back,..So, who's going in first?

With a look of confidence, Rowynn stepped forward, then looked back,..If I walk in without walking right out, you guys better get in immediately

You got it, Lynx replied as she stepped into the hologram.

Rowynn watched in awe as her body seeped through the intangible walls

Woah!.., she exclaimed on getting to the other side as she found herself in what looked like a community, she stared at the soft grass beneath her feet before noticing and a few houses scattered across, a subtle breeze blew her long hair towards her face and she tucked them behind her ear.

She glanced around, taking it all in...

I guess Valtor was right,..she thought before deciding to proceed.

I guess I'm next, Kymani moved forward on noticing Rowynn vanish into the walls without coming back, he slowly seeped through the hologram and was followed by Orea, then Valtor and Zara while Lynx walked in last.

On getting to the other side, Kymani glanced behind him, seeing noone. He began to grow confused, wondering where the others might be.

Hey,..a voice spoke upfront, causing him to jerk as he turned around

He sighed of relief on finding Rowynn standing in front of him, her hands in her pants pocket.

Didn't mean to scare you, she smiled, where's everyone?

I have no idea, he replied with furrowed brows,.. it's confusing, cause they walked in after I did, where exactly are they?

Maybe they're in another area?, she shrugged, the hologram probably led us to different places.

"Probably"

I was just about checking through those houses, she continued, pointing at the buildings a little far off, want to come with?

Yeah, Kymani nodded as he approached her,..let's do it..

Valtor stood alone, staring at the tarred roads in front of him, glancing towards his right, he noticed a few old buildings which looked like houses laying scantily afar off, but he wasn't interested in checking through them.

they wouldn't let our escape be that obvious.., he reasoned while glancing around for something more significant.

You seem lost, Zara commented as she approached him from behind..I couldn't find the others anywhere so I guess we're the only ones here?

What're you looking for, she asked as he seemed immersed in his gaze

He walked back, towards her, pointing towards the right,.. Seeing those buildings over there, what comes to your mind?, he asked

She narrowed her gaze at the houses afar off, they looked dilapidated,..I guess they seem pretty...random

I thought so too, which is why I'll be searching through that instead,...he pointed towards a tower which lay even farther north, one had to be intentional to spot it

It's definitely less random than those houses,..You have a keen eye, Zara complimented, causing him to smirk a little as they began to move northward.

Also standing alone with no idea of her friends' whereabouts, Orea looked around for any form of clue, she saw nothing other than the glass floors beneath her feet,

She stood still, observing her reflection in the transparent floors before suddenly hearing a pair of feet rub against the floors behind her.

Turning around to meet Lynx approaching her, she let out a frustrated sigh.

You seem disappointed to see me, he said with a laid-back grin

She turned back without a reply and kept walking forward

Where exactly are you going?, he said from behind ... there's nothing out here,..I checked.

Ignoring him, she continued on, before crouching at a spot while observing the floors again.

I see you guys made up, he continued in a low tone as he got closer,..

Which means you've decided to trust him, he paused, watching her as she stood up to face him

Would you stop rambling and help me out here, she rolled her eyes in exasperation,..

I need you to break the floor at this spot, she pointed at a specific part of the floor.

With his gaze still on her, Lynx walked over to where she stood, his hazel eyes turning icy blue

What do you think you're doing?, Orea spoke up, noticing as he paused in front of her, towering over her in the process.

Without taking his eyes off her, he replied, "you're standing in my way", then gestured at 'the spot' beneath her feet.

Oh!, she finally realized before moving aside.

Growing out a large ice spike from his palm, Lynx struck the floors with full force, shattering the glass, and creating a wide hole

Shifting away some broken pieces, he crouched as he looked through the hole, seeing nothing.

'It's pretty dark down there', he announced.

Lynx noticed as the sun's brightness suddenly intensified while Orea crouched next to him with grey eyes.

As the sun's rays slowly illuminated the darkness, Orea's eyes widened, taking in the scene of what looked like a bunker underground.

Lynx's gaze swept the area, his eyes narrowing at the dimly lit space

'What do you think's down there?' Orea whispered

Only one way we can find out, he glanced at her with a knowing look

Staring back into the hole, she tried to measure it's depth, before glancing back at him...You ready?, she asked

"As I'll ever be".
