"Children, your mother has left to protect you. From now on, you are the heirs of my Shinobi Sect. The eldest shall be named Indra, and the younger shall be named Asura." Saying this, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki let out a sigh.
The scene shifted to when the two children were about six years old. Asura spent his days playing with friends, while Indra was immersed in reading books of the Shinobi Sect.
Though they were biological brothers, their talents were completely different. No matter what the Sage of Six Paths taught, Indra understood everything instantly, while Asura could not grasp any of it.
Still, the two brothers got along quite well. Until one day, while browsing ancient texts, Indra had a sudden inspiration: since everyone had chakra, could it be released through some method?
After research, he invented hand seals as a way to guide the flow of chakra within the body.
Through his teaching, many ordinary people also sensed chakra and were able to perform ninjutsu.
This scene amazed the Sage of Six Paths, though concern showed in his eyes. "Indra, you have done very well. With your improvements, even ordinary people can use ninjutsu."
Praised by his father, Indra smiled. Meanwhile, Asura beside him felt somewhat dejected. Who could understand how painful it was to have an exceptionally talented older brother?
But then the Sage of Six Paths added, "However, excessively powerful strength can also bring disaster. From now on, I ask you to oversee the Shinobi Sect."
"I understand, Father," Indra replied with a smile.
"Hm." The Sage of Six Paths nodded, but his gaze turned to Asura, as if deep in thought.
Asura felt disheartened. Since birth, he had been compared to Indra. Next to Indra, he seemed like a fool, living daily in his older brother's shadow.
Indra seemed to notice his younger brother's sadness. He walked over and patted Asura's shoulder. "Little brother, do you want to learn? Big brother will teach you."
His smile was sincere, his eyes earnest. Asura was both surprised and touched. "R, really? Can you really teach me?"
Indra smiled. "Of course. After all, you are my brother. As an older brother, I would never hide anything from you."
In Asura's eyes, Indra's image at that moment was magnificent, even comparable to their father. His eyes reddened, and he nodded repeatedly. "Yes, yes! Big brother is the best!"
Indra smiled helplessly and rubbed his younger brother's head. Then he took Asura's hand, ready to teach him ninjutsu.
The two brothers seemed to get along well.
The Sage of Six Paths turned and left the training ground to go rest.
Indra explained everything in great detail to Asura: from the creative process, to the various hand seals, and how to channel chakra to perform ninjutsu of different natures.
But Asura could not absorb it. His head felt like it was about to explode. He truly could not believe how his brother managed to memorize all that knowledge!
Indra was not impatient. He took out a handwritten scroll containing his personal insights, hoping it would help his younger brother.
Asura looked at him with gratitude. "Thank you, big brother!"
Indra smiled and waved his hand. "Then I will go read now. Little brother, do your best. Big brother believes you can succeed!"
Encouraged by Indra, Asura regained his motivation. He nodded. He would definitely not let his big brother down! He would practice hard.
Just then, a black figure emerged from the shadows. Cloaked in a robe, it stared at Indra thoughtfully.
Then, after a series of eerie chuckles, the black shadow vanished, clearly having some plan in mind.
After inventing hand seals, Indra, through his comprehension of chakra, created one Lightning Release jutsu after another, as well as the Clone Technique, and taught them to everyone.
At that time, Indra was only ten years old. The Sage of Six Paths praised him as a true genius of the Shinobi Sect.
As he continuously gained power, he began to grow proud and arrogant. But in Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki's eyes, this was not a big problem. Children often had some arrogance; it was normal. So he did not discipline Indra.
Until one day, when Indra and Asura took a yellow-backed little dog into the forest to train.
Unexpectedly, a wild boar charged out. Its eyes were filled with rage, crimson red. It rubbed its right hoof against the ground, then charged toward Asura.
Asura screamed, "Help!"
"Woof, woof!" The yellow-backed little dog bravely rushed forward, trying to block the wild boar's attack.
But reality was cruel. With a thud, the little dog was sent flying. The wild boar did not slow down and continued charging toward Asura!
But Asura did not care about that. He cried out, "Little White!"
Then he was hit by the wild boar and thrown in a parabolic arc. He landed on the ground with a thud.
Miraculously, he was unharmed. He got up, picked up Little White, and called its name. Just then, Indra's voice rang out. "Asura!"
"Brother!" Asura shouted.
Indra jumped down from a tree, landing beside Asura. His expression was unchanged, but his calm eyebrows slightly furrowed, his eyes darkening.
"You dare harm my little brother," Indra gritted his teeth. Then he formed hand seals, extended his right hand, wrapped it in electric arcs, and roared as he charged at the wild boar. The boar also charged at Indra.
A flash of white lightning streaked across. The wild boar fell to the ground with a thud. At the same time, Indra's right palm still crackled with white electric currents.
"Brother!" Asura, holding Little White, cried out as he rushed toward Indra.
"Are you okay?" Indra turned and asked.
"I am fine, but Little White, it..." Asura held out the bleeding Little White, his eyes reddening.
Indra paused. He looked at Asura. "Little White protected you with its life. Let us bury it with honor." He patted Asura's shoulder to comfort him.
Asura nodded. Then he looked up at his older brother Indra and suddenly froze. "Brother, your eyes!"
Indra was startled. He took out a kunai so polished he could see his reflection, held it up, and looked at his own Sharingan reflected in it—two tomoe spinning within.
(Sasuke: I hope no one cyberbullies me for this.)
Indra did not speak of it. He sensed this power was extraordinary and decided to research it further after returning.
Unbeknownst to them, as the two brothers left, a figure emerged from underground. Cloaked in a coat, only its eyes were visible; the rest was tightly wrapped. It watched the two brothers.
"Hehe, the Sharingan. I never expected Indra would awaken the Sharingan. Mother, the time to rescue you has grown closer," thought Black Zetsu, looking up at the sky with excitement.
