Chapter 2 - Scars and strangers

Scene: Shagufta's Solitude

Shagufta left the bathroom, her wet hair clinging to her shoulders. Sitting before the mirror, she studied her reflection, her eyes heavy with unspoken pain.

"Shagufta," she whispered, her voice steadying, "you've already suffered too much. You must be strong now."

She drew a deep breath, closing her eyes briefly as though sealing away her burdens. She stood up, exhaling softly, and crawled into bed. Sleep was her only refuge, even if fleeting.

Scene: Dr. Lee's Cabin

Dr. Lee, Dr. Kang, and Nurse Min were gathered in Dr. Lee's cabin. The mood was lighthearted yet tinged with curiosity.

Dr. Lee leaned back in his chair, a teasing smile on his face. "I really thought Shagufta had feelings for you, Dr. Kang. But when she slapped Dr. Waqar, I was stunned. What's going on there?"

Dr. Kang shrugged nonchalantly. "It's not what you think. She's not my type."

Nurse Min raised an eyebrow. "Then what's your type, Dr. Kang?"

Dr. Kang chuckled, leaning forward. "I want someone strong but innocent. A girl who knows her future, someone selfless, who values others before herself. For me, her looks or skin color don't matter. I want someone who understands me without needing too many words." His voice softened. "Someone who feels unsure at first but gradually can't hide her feelings. And I'll make sure she has all the happiness she deserves."

Nurse Min laughed. "Such girls don't exist in Korea! Should I place an order for one?"

Dr. Lee smirked. "Actually, the director mentioned two new doctors are joining soon—one from Pakistan and another from the USA."

Nurse Min's interest was piqued. "I've heard Pakistani girls are innocent and resilient."

Dr. Kang's eyes glimmered with intrigue. "Really? Maybe this time, I'll meet my ideal partner."

Scene: Ayesha's Confession

In a modest lawn, Ayesha sat across from her professor, visibly exhausted. Her clothes were worn, her lip bleeding, and her feet bare.

"I don't know what to do, Professor," she admitted, her voice trembling. "If I marry Umair, my life will be over. I've suffered so much already. I had no one else to turn to."

The professor's eyes softened as he listened. "You made the right choice coming here. Don't worry. I'll arrange everything—your ticket, a place to stay in Korea, clothes—everything you need."

Ayesha's voice broke as she said, "Thank you. I'll never forget your kindness."

The professor's wife led her to a guest room to rest. Ayesha closed her eyes, clutching onto hope as tightly as she could.

Scene: Emergency at the ER

Shagufta stood in the ER, her doctor's coat unbuttoned over her scrubs. Her hair was tied back loosely as she focused on a patient's chart.

Dr. Waqar approached hesitantly. "Shagufta, can we talk?"

She didn't look up. "There's nothing to talk about. Do your job."

Before Waqar could respond, a loud voice echoed through the hall.

"Emergency! We need assistance now!" shouted Dr. Lee.

Both doctors sprinted toward the commotion. A car accident victim lay on a stretcher, blood soaking through the sheets.

Dr. Waqar inspected her quickly. "Severe blood loss and a fractured leg. We need immediate surgery."

Dr. Lee nodded. "Prepare the OR!"

Dr. Kang arrived just as the patient was wheeled away. Turning to Shagufta, he asked casually, "How's the patient?"

Shagufta relayed the condition briefly.

Dr. Kang smirked. "It's not a big deal for them. Let's grab a coffee."

Shagufta blinked. "Seriously?"

Dr. Kang laughed. "Why would I joke about coffee?"

She gave a reluctant nod. "Fine."

Scene: Ayesha's Departure

In the airport lounge, Ayesha stood with her professor.

"You need to be cautious," he warned. "Your villagers are wealthy and influential. They might try to harm you, even abroad."

"I know," Ayesha said, her voice firm. "Thank you for everything. Without you, I wouldn't have come this far."

The professor smiled, though his eyes were filled with concern. "You'll be fine. Just focus on your goals."

As Ayesha boarded her flight, she felt both the weight of her past and the promise of a new future.

Scene: Cafeteria Conversation

At the hospital cafeteria, Dr. Kang sat across from Shagufta.

"So," he began, "do you like Dr. Waqar?"

Shagufta nearly spat out her drink. "No! Why would you even ask that?"

Dr. Kang shrugged. "Then why did you slap him? Dr. Lee and I already know something's up."

Shagufta hesitated, her eyes darting away. "There's nothing to talk about."

Dr. Kang leaned forward. "We're colleagues, and maybe soon we'll be friends. Tell me the truth. I might be able to help."

After a long pause, Shagufta relented. "Fine. But you can't tell anyone."

"I promise," Dr. Kang said, his tone serious.

Shagufta opened up about her past, sharing the pain and challenges she had faced.

Dr. Kang listened intently, his respect for her deepening with every word.

Scene: Airport Robbery

Ayesha admired the airport's bustling life, a sense of freedom washing over her. Suddenly, gunshots pierced the air.

A group of robbers approached her, demanding her bag.

"Give us the bag, or we'll shoot!" the leader barked.

Ayesha clutched her bag tightly, refusing. The leader snarled. "Shoot her!"

The first bullet grazed her shoulder, but she held on. The second bullet struck her, and she collapsed, her grip loosening.

Police arrived moments later, arresting the robbers. Ayesha was rushed to Asan Medical Center.

Scene: Surgery and Mystery

Dr. Kang and Shagufta worked tirelessly in the OR. After stabilizing Ayesha, they stepped out of the room.

Shagufta turned to Kang. "Did you notice? She has multiple scars on her abdomen. Where could they be from?"

Dr. Kang nodded grimly. "I noticed. There's more to her story than we know."

Shagufta looked back at the unconscious Ayesha. "I hope she finds peace someday."

Dr. Kang's expression softened. "We'll make sure she gets the care she deserves. This is just the beginning"
