Chapter 1 - New Student

Krishna: Hi, I'm Krishna. Yeah, I am a god. As Yugesh said, things don't work exactly like in Hinduism here, and I'm going to narrate the story. This is another universe other than where you live. Today is 12 Feb 2061. So welcome to our world.

In our universe, there are two realms in the afterlife—one for good and the other for evil. The good souls will go for incarnation soon, and the evil will go for rehabilitation.

However, the third king of the evil realm betrayed us and disappeared from the evil realm with everyone in it. You can either call them demons or monsters.

In the past two years, we've come to know that they are on Earth now. Well, we've certain rules that we should follow, and one of them is that we should not interfere with the human world. But there are some exceptions—which you'll know at the right time.

Therefore, we created a system for humans so they can defend themselves from the so-called demons. We call them protectors, and each will gain their abilities and weapons from their past experiences, loss and trauma.

To shield Earth from demonic interference, we established the Time-Free Zone (TFZ)—a space where the concept of time ceases to exist.. Any changes that occur within the TFZ don't affect the real world—it reverts to its original state once deactivated. So, no matter how destructive the fights are, they leave no trace or cause for suspicion.

There are certain rules to become a protector. The humans, by far, have only reached three levels.

Level 1 - The will to protect. If you have a strong will to protect, you become a Level 1 Protector...

Although you don't get any special ability or weapon at this point. Wanna know why? Even though they had the will to protect... they can't.

Level 2 - Protect someone to prove you're worthy of being a protector. You become level 2 Protector.

And this time they earn a power, along with an enhancement in their physical strength and reflexes.

Level 3 - Now it gets serious; not many have reached this stage. Now, to evolve, you've to protect someone at the risk of your life.

This is where the system forges your weapon. At this point, you've become a true protector.

Only a protector who levelled 2 or above can remember what happens in TFZ; others will lose their memory of it.

If someone dies in the TFZ, they don't just drop dead in the real world.

Their death is delayed… like fate catching up. Within two days, they'll meet their end—an accident, a fall, an illness—something.

Scene change to Yuki's room, in the top bunk.

Krishna: He is Yuki. He is my friend and a bit different from all the others. He sees me as a friend, unlike others who worship me.

I talk to him indirectly sometimes. At the right time, I'll talk to him directly. For now, I'll talk to him, with coin probability and thoughts. Whenever he asks me a question, I'll say yes or no by coin probability, and I'll say things by playing with his thoughts.

I communicate with him telepathically, blending my words into his thoughts so seamlessly that he can't distinguish my voice from his own.

The screen changes to Yuki's home, and Yuki is sleeping in his bed. The alarm is ringing.

Krishna: It's him, still sleeping. It's time to wake him up.

Snapped his finger. His consciousness increased, and he was able to hear the alarm ringing. After all this effort, Yuki finally woke up.

Yuki: Good morning, Krishna.

He looked at the time and got irritated.

Yuki: Why didn't you wake me up sooner?

Krishna: I know 7 AM is too late, but he should learn to adapt when plans fall apart.

He was late on the first day, but he made it just in time.

Yuki: If I had delayed a few more minutes, I could have missed the school bus. Thanks, bro.

Krishna: (Smiles) I'll never let my friend down, never.

Yuki: First day and final year of school, huh!

Krishna: It's the best time to tell him that he should learn to adapt when plans fall apart.

He snapped his fingers.

Krishna: And you might doubt whether we communicate with thoughts and probability. Then why did he say good morning and thanks?

You have the right to ask this question, and the answer is, I can see and hear everything.

Scene cuts to where he's sitting.

Yuki: I had a problem on my very first day. But I know what he will say, something like "You should learn to adapt when things don't go as you expect."

After some time, his class teacher, Mr Hamesh, enters the class.

Hamesh: It seems I'll be your class teacher again, guys.

Yuki: Him again, huh? It would be great.

The lecture goes on, and at the end of it.

Hamesh: You all have a group project. Hence, everyone should tell me their team members by tomorrow.

Yuki: (sighs) group project? No way to skip it. I should find a partner, huh!

The day went just normally. In the evening, after school. He went back to his home on the school bus. Scene cuts to his home. He steps in, opening the door.

Shreeya: So… How was your day?

Yuki: It's…What about the new student? Hmm, she's not important. the same as always, Mom.

Then he walked to his room and watched some anime.

Shreeya: (faint voice) Dinner is ready.

Scene cuts to the dining table, where he is eating.

Sheerya: You seem a little off.

Yuki: I'm completely alright, Mom. Anyway, Good night.

He walked to his room and climbed up to the top bunk. Then they slept, while the lower bunk remained empty. In the morning, the scene cuts to him on his way to school on the bus.

Hamesh: Today, a new student will be joining our class.

She entered the class and stood before them.

Hamesh: She is our new transfer student. Introduce yourself to your class.

Mika: I am Mika. I have been transferred from Woxsen High School.

She glanced at everyone in the class to take a look. But Yuki was lost in his own world; he didn't even notice her.

Krishna: You could also say he is too flustered to look at her. Let me check his thoughts… Sorry guys, but I'm wrong. He's lost in his thoughts.

Hamesh: You could take that seat, Mika.

He points out the one beside Yuki. Mika nods and takes the seat beside Yuki.

Yuki: It's you, don't you? Krishna, huh! You won't answer me now.

Hamesh: Okay, class, have you got the team for the project?

Yuki: I almost forgot about this, and everyone must already be teamed up. I was left alone. That's my reason. (smirks)

Everyone reported their teams to Hamesh, i.e., his class teacher. It's his turn to report. He stood up and went near him.

Yuki: Sir, I don't have a partner. Can I do it myself?

Hamesh: I was expecting someone to be left out. Well, you have a partner, Yuki.

Yuki: WHAT? No way—I got a bad feeling about this. Who is it, sir?

Hamesh: It's the new student, Mika.

Yuki: (speechless) Wait, what?
