In the Anchorage parliamentary office, Benjamin was still bewildered. He couldn't understand what had happened. Why, after merely one night, had he become the enemy of the entire United States.
The phone on the desk rang incessantly, but Benjamin acted as though he hadn't heard it, staring blankly at the shocking headlines on the computer screen.
He knew he was finished.
"Bang~"
The office door was rudely pushed open from the outside. Several FBI agents filed in, followed by two uniformed police officers.
The middle-aged lead agent showed his badge: "Senator Benjamin Carter, I'm Agent Davis from the Bureau. You are formally arrested on multiple charges, including obstruction of justice and abuse of power."
Benjamin's lips moved, wanting to say something, but eventually just dryly uttered a few words: "I... I want to contact a lawyer..."
"You can contact a lawyer, of course." Agent Davis said expressionlessly, "But you must come with us now."
