Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Speaking for the Dead

Hearing this sentence, everyone felt a slight jolt in their hearts.

Indeed!

In forensic pathology, asphyxiation is a common cause of death.

However, there are many ways that lead to asphyxiation.

Besides the common methods like strangulation and hanging, there are also ways like covering the mouth and compressing the neck.

Even drowning, strictly speaking, is a case of hypoxic death.

When we drown, we ingest a large amount of fluid into the airway.

These situations can all lead to obstruction of the respiratory tract, causing hypoxic asphyxiation death.

Of course, aside from these visibly apparent methods of asphyxiation, there is another type of intracellular asphyxiation.

That is asphyxiation caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon monoxide enters the body and combines with the hemoglobin in the blood, causing the hemoglobin to lose its oxygen-carrying capacity.

This results in hypoxic death of the body's cells.

The criminal investigation team doesn't just have one forensic expert, Jiang An.

There is also another experienced forensic scientist, Wu You.

Wu You looked at Jiang An, a look of admiration on his face.

Being able to articulate what was just said shows that this new forensic expert has a solid theoretical knowledge level.

That older criminologist, having been challenged, felt a bit unable to maintain face.

His face darkened, and he asked, "Young man, are you new here? I haven't seen you before!"

Jiang An responded, "I just reported today, I'm a new forensic expert."

"First day reporting in, huh!"

The older criminologist clicked his tongue, looking disdainful.

"This conclusion was reached by your mentor, Wu You!"

Now, the atmosphere in the scene shifted!

Jiang An sensed the tension in the air.

He remained composed under pressure.

Subsequently, Jiang An turned his head and glanced at Wu You, saying, "This is just my personal opinion, it may not be correct and could even be wrong."

"I have no intention of contradicting my mentor; I'm only expressing my own viewpoint."

In these simple statements, Jiang An persistently emphasized one fact.

This is my viewpoint, not my mentor's viewpoint.

If it's wrong, it's the student's fault!

If it succeeds, it's the student's credit!

At this point, Wu You quickly stepped in to mediate, "Mr. Zhou, as Mr. Li just said, this is just a discussion, everyone is free to express their opinions!"

Li Jian said, "Old Zhou, give the young man a chance! We all came from being young once!"

Heeding the persuasion of both, Zhou Bing eased the tension and picked up his teacup to drink tea.

Li Jian looked at Jiang An and said, "Continue speaking!"

The little episode just now did not disrupt Jiang An's line of thinking.

Having the experience of two lifetimes, managing emotions is already a basic skill for him.

A man who can't control his emotions, can't control his life.

Your mindset determines your level!

Continuing, Jiang An said, "Third, this girl Li Rui did not exhibit any signs of suicidal intent."

"According to general understanding, before a person commits suicide, they often have signs of leaving final messages or saying goodbye to relatives."

"However, in the preliminary investigation, there were no materials found in this regard."

"For the victim's family, this should be a baffling and strange matter."

"I think this is also why the family was so agitated after Li Rui's death and refused to accept the preliminary conclusion of suicide."

Finally, Jiang An said, "These are my immature views, I ask for criticism and guidance on any errors from the senior professors and experts."

Immature?

The reasoning is so clear!

The young police officers sitting beside Jiang An were envious, their eyes filled with admiration.

Especially the senior fellow on the side.

She indeed had been quite worried for Jiang An just now.

One must know, this was a grand meeting of the criminal investigation team.

At such large meetings, unless absolutely sure, it's best not to speak up.

The preliminary conclusion of this kind of case is hardly "preliminary."

Jiang An, having just arrived, wasn't fully aware.

This case had gone through no less than ten rounds of small-scale discussions in its early stages.

The conclusion of suicide was just one step away from being finalized on paper with an official stamp!

It's not just young officers, even older criminologists have to weigh their words carefully.

Li Jian chuckled and said, "Comrade Jiang An, what you just said makes some sense."

"In these kinds of case discussion meetings, we need to be lively to spark the wisdom of innovation."

"Moreover, our criminal investigation team is comprised of seniors, mid-careers, and juniors, with a well-balanced personnel structure."

"Therefore, in future meetings, it cannot only be our seniors speaking; young people need to speak too. This will hone young people's professional skills."

Subsequently, Li Jian shifted the conversation.

"The three doubts Jiang An raised just now are worth further investigation."

"After all, there is no absolute result in solving a case; conclusions are negotiations and trade-offs."

"However, this case has also been repeatedly studied and our conclusion of suicide remains firm."

"Jiang An, please write down your viewpoints and study more with your mentor Wu You."

"Please Wu You generously impart your knowledge and guide the newcomers!"

"We must highly value different voices within a case and leave no possibility unchecked."

Finally, Li Jian raised his wristwatch, glanced at it, and said, "Today's meeting ends here, I still need to report to Mr. Ma."

"Meeting adjourned!"

This response surprised Jiang An a bit, but not too much.

After all, his voice carries little weight!

If his words were spoken by the forensic authority Mr. Qin, it might be considered the truth.

However, Jiang An was not discouraged.

His inner sense of justice drove him to act!

"With a Willow Leaf Blade delving into the police world, a discerning eye unveils the truth."

This is his motto.

Since he chose forensic science, he must speak for the dead!

Jiang An's intuition told him this case was not simple.

For the three unusual points he mentioned, perhaps many people see them as mere coincidences and accidents.

But!

In Jiang An's view, three coincidences together are far from coincidences!

Someone must have orchestrated the coincidence!

Just as Jiang An walked out of the meeting room, his senior, Zhang Yean, caught up to him.

She raised her hand and patted Jiang An.

"Junior, your analysis just now was excellent!"

Jiang An smiled.

What's the use of a good analysis!

No one adopted it!

Zhang Yean smiled, her canine teeth were very cute.

"Don't be discouraged; your analysis was professional!"

"My uncle is in the provincial forensic department. Why don't you write down your analysis and let me show it to him?"

"A senior figure?"

Zhang Yean nodded, "He has a background in forensic medicine and has been working for 30 years; he is the leading forensic authority in the province!"

Instantly, Jiang An felt a glimmer of hope ignite in his heart.

My words carry little weight!

But!

The words of a big-shot carry much weight!
