Lily Shaw was amused by her words, laughing as she patted her shoulder: "Mandy, you're running out of excuses, aren't you? I know you can't bear to part with me, but my mind is made up."
"Hmph! Lily, your heart must be made of diamond!" Mandy Young blurted out in frustration, only to see her best friend squint and say, "Mandy, that sounds so familiar. Where have I heard that before?"
"Hey!" Mandy immediately protested, "That's not the point, okay?"
Lily chuckled, coaxed her with a few words, then returned to her own desk. She had just sat down when the phone rang. She hesitated, and sure enough, it was Miles Morgan calling, and her first instinct was to hang up.
"Miss Shaw, I have some business to discuss. Please come to my office." Miles Morgan's voice was deep and steady, with no trace of emotion, completely businesslike.
Lily forced herself to swallow her dislike and replied coolly, "Yes, Manager Morgan."
