Chapter 2 - Ch2 The Wheelers

John walked to the front door and put on his shoes. Then he walked out of his house and walked over to his neighbor on the right side.

He knocked on the door and a couple minutes later, a brunette opened the door.

John introduced himself to her before he handed her the container of cookies.

The brunette said, "I am Carol. I hope you enjoy living here."

John said, "Thanks, I'll see you around sometime." Carol nodded as she watched John walk away.

He walked swiftly down the sidewalk and headed to Mike's house.

Carol watching him from her porch and thought, 'Such a strapping young man.'

Then Carol walked back into her house slowly, after watching John walk past his house to the Wheeler's.

John arrived at the front door of the Wheeler's house. He rang the doorbell and then waited for the door to open.

A couple minutes later. A teenage girl opened the door, the girl had dark brown hair and pale blue eyes.

The girl was wearing blue jeans, a white shirt that was untucked and a yellow sweater.

The girl looked up at him and was stunned by the handsome boy standing at her front door.

She was in a daze for a couple seconds before she recovered.

She said nervously, "Hello, do you need anything?"

John smiled and said, "I just moved in next door, so I came over to introduce myself."

Nancy said, "Oh, you're the one Mike was talking about... You're John, right?"

'He didn't mention he was a hottie!'

He nodded and said, "Yeah. Oh, and I brought some cookies."

Then handed the cookies to Nancy, who quickly held them. Her hand brushed up against John's hand.

Nancy said, "Thank you. Do you want to come in and meet everyone?"

John said, "Sure, I'd like to know all of my new neighbors."

Nancy nodded as she moved aside and let John inside the house. John came inside and was about to take off his shoes when Nancy stopped him.

Nancy said, "We don't take off our shoes in the house since we have laminate flooring."

John nodded as he stopped then he took of his jacket and set it on the coat rack.

He followed Nancy into the living room and saw a middle-aged man sitting on a recliner.

Nancy said, "Dad, this is the neighbor Mike was talking about."

The man looked over lazily and said, "Nice to meet you, John. I'm Ted."

Then he turned his head back to the TV. Nancy looked at John apologetically before she led John over to the kitchen.

As they were walking down the hall, Nancy said, "Sorry about that. He had a long day."

John said, "I get it."

In reality, John was thinking, 'What a bum.'

They arrived in the kitchen and saw a aa older brunette, mid thirties taking a roast out of the oven. The women looked like an older version of Nancy.

The woman set the roast on the counter before she yelled, "Mike, dinner is ready."

Then she turned around to grab some plates, but she saw a teenage boy and her daughter standing in the kitchen.

She was surprised, but she quickly calmed down and asked, "Nancy, who is this young man? Your friend. Boyfriend? Is he staying for dinner?"

Nancy got embarrassed and said, "Mom! He is not my boyfriend. This is our new neighbor; he came over to introduce himself."

Nancy's mom said, "Oh, nice to meet you, John. I'm Karen." Tilting her head, 'Mike did mention we have a new neighbor.'

He held her outstretched hand.

John said, "Nice to meet you as well." Then he let go of Karen's hand.

Karen said, "So, John. Are you staying for dinner?"

John said, "I don't want to impose."

Nancy and Karen said at the same time, "You're not imposing."

John said, "Well, if you insist. I don't see why I should refuse."

Karen walked over to a cabinet and tried to grab some of their nicer plates.

However, she couldn't reach. She was about to go get a step stool when John grabbed the plates for her and set them on the counter.

Karen sending him a grateful look.

Nancy asked, "Hey, John. Why don't I show you my room while we wait for mom to finish setting up dinner?"

He nodded and followed Nancy out of the kitchen. They were walking down the hall to the stairs by the front door, when Mike came rushing out of the basement.

Mike crashed straight into Nancy, pushing her into John. Nancy almost fell but John caught her.

Nancy shouted, "What the hell, Mike! Watch where you're going!"

Ted yelled from the other room, "Language."

Mike ignored Nancy and ran off to the kitchen. Nancy was very bashful, since he was still holding her by the arms.

Nancy said quietly, "You can let go now, John."

John let go of her and Nancy continued to walk forward.

He followed her up a flight of stairs and they made their way to a door.

Nancy opened the door and led John inside.

John looked around and saw the vertical grey and white striped walls. John said, "I was expecting pink."

Nancy said, "Well, this wallpaper was cheaper than pink paint."

Nancy caught herself, she had essentially just told John that they were a having financial issues.

Her dad wasn't doing well at work because he was so lazy.

However, just as she was beginning to worry, she stopped. John had said, "Well, this room is nice."

John then walked over to her desk and saw a chemistry book had been opened and there was some homework next to it.

John said, "You take chemistry?"

Nancy said, "Yeah, I am a bit of a nerd."

John said, "You don't look like a nerd."

Nancy blushed, "Thanks."

John said, "You know, I am starting at Hawkin's Highschool tomorrow. Maybe I will be in your class."

"Oh, cool. That would be nice. I mean, uhm, I." Nancy stammered.

John smiled before he said, "Calm down, Nancy. No need to be so nervous." John sat down on her bed, Nancy sitting beside him.

Nancy calmed down and they talked for a couple more minutes. The distance between them shrinking.

Nancy stared into his eyes, before they could start anything, they were interupted by a call downstairs. "Dinners ready!"

Nancy catching herself, slightly flustered, she walks to the door. John followed.

They walked out of the room and slowly made their way downstairs.

Nancy was a lot more comfortable around John now as she had gotten to know him a little better.

She felt a flutter in her stomach when she looked back at him.

They walked down the stairs together and Nancy led John to the dining room.

Nancy sat down in her chair, John sitting down in the only chair that was left.

Which just so happened to be between Nancy and Holly.

John said, "John looked at Holly fondly. The cute toddler looking over.

John smiled at her and asked, "What's your name?"

Holly was shy, so she covered her face, Nancy answered for her. Nancy said, "That's Holly, my little sister."

John said leaning toward her, "Nice to meet you, Holly."

Holly was shy but she uncovered her face and looked at John's face, a smile forming.

Karen arrived and curious she asked John, "So... Why did you move out here?"

John answered, "Well, I came here because I was tired of the hectic city life." She nodded.

Ted asked, his mouth full, "So, are you going to school? Work?"

John sreplied flatly, a little disgusted, "I enrolled in Hawkins Highschool. I am interested to see how they teach here."

Ted nodded before he shut his mouth and quietly chewed his food.

Mike said, " I saw your car outside your house. It's super nice."

John said, "Thanks."

Mike asked, "What kind of car is that?"

John answered, "It's a new Pontiac GTO." Karen and Nancy gasped, Ted looking over for a second before losing interest.

Karen asked, "How do you afford it?"

He smiled deviously, "Selling drugs..." Karen face blanching. Nancy shocked. Ted unfazed, not even listening.

John continued, "Just kidding, my grandfather left me some money. He died a week ago."

Everyone quiets down.

John asks toward Nancy, "Want a ride sometime?"

Mike interjected, "Really?" John nodded.Nancy blushing slightly. Karen noticing this, thoughts already rolling.

Mike said, "Great. How about tomorrow, you could drive me to school."

Nancy thought, 'Good job, Mike. You did something good for once."

John said, "Okay." Taking a mouthful of the roast.

John said, "Wow, this is great. Just like Olivia's"

Karen said, "Thank you."

Nancy asked, "Who's Olivia?"

John said, "A lady I used to live by. I'd help her with some chores, and she would feed me."

Nancy said, "Oh, she was like Granny Anne then."

Karen asked, "So, how long are you staying in Hawkins?" Nancy looking over, waiting for a response.

He said after swallowing, "I plan to stay here for the foreseeable future." Nancy smiled when she heard that.

Karen said, "Well, I hope you enjoy living near us."

John nodded. They continued to eat as they talked more with him and began to understand more about his life.

When they finished eating, Mike said, "Where are those cookies, you said you would bring cookies."

John looked at the pre-teen and laughed before he said, "I didn't forget. I gave them to Nancy.

Mike looked like a drug addict as he turned to Nancy and began to stare at her.

Nancy was freaked out, so she put the container of cookies in the middle of the table.

Mike went to grab one, but Karen smacked his hand. Karen chided, "Mind your manners."

Mike said quickly, "Yes, mom... Thank you for the cookies, John."

John said, "You're welcome."

Everyone grabbed a cookie. When Mike got his hands on a cookie it immediately disappeared into his mouth.

John grabbed a cookie and started to eat it as well. They were a simple chocolate chip cookie, but it was somehow tasted even better.

Everyone complimented John on his cookies.

John replied humbly, "It's no big deal, anyone can cook."

Mike jumped out of his seat and ran in front of John. Mike said, "When can you make more?"

John said, "I don't think your mother would appreciate me giving you sugar." Mike slumped his shoulders.

John said slowly, "Well, I think I have taken enough of your time. I should probably get going."

Karen said, "Okay, do you want to take some roast with you?"

Ted looking over, aggrieved but didn't say anything when Karen shot him a glare.

John said, "Sure."

Karen immediately stood up and went to the kitchen to get a container. Meanwhile, John walked to the front door followed by Mike and Nancy.

Mike was visibly bummed.

John whispered to Mike, "I'll give you some cookies tomorrow."

Mike instantly brightened up and nodded his head.

Nancy asked, "What are you two whispering about?"

Mike and John said at the same time, "Nothing."

Nancy said, "That's not suspicious at all."

John said, "Hey Nancy, why don't you show me around the school tomorrow?"

Nancy said, "Okay, I can bring you to the office as well."

John nodded.

Karen came walking over with a container of food as John put on his jacket.

His shirt lifted up some showing off his chisled abs.

Both Karen and Nancy looked for a couple seconds, a slightly longing look. A regretful look replacing it when his shirt covered him again, before they caught themselves.

Karen handed John the container and said, "Come over anytime."

Nancy and Mike nodding their heads.

John replied, "Okay, I won't be shy." He opened the door and walked outside.

John said, "Have a good night, guys." He walked back to his house and walked inside.

John looked around the house and made a few changes to the house. Making it a little more modern.

While John was moving around his house and making changes. Nancy was in her room lying on her bed and daydreaming about John.

Nancy had been smitten on him, ever since she met him. Nancy was kicking her legs and listening to music.

She continued to daydream for a while before she got up and changed into her pajamas.

Suddenly, she remembered that she hadn't finished her homework. She walked over to her desk and sat down.

She hurriedly finished up her homework, doing just enough to scrape by. Emotionally and mentally exhausted.

She stood up and climbed into bed, her eyes closed seconds later.

John had just finished making changes to his house and walked into his bedroom before he sat down on a chair and began to refresh his memory of basic Highschool level study material. John stayed up till three.

Lying down in his new bed. Laying still until sleep found him.
