Chapter 44 - Measuring Success

In the candlelit map room, Sharath unfurled the first **Mobility Survey** tables. Columns tallied bakery profits, midwife response times, grain-rot reduction, and school attendance across twelve provinces. The bottom line stunned everyone:

- Average household income up **27%** in two years - Maternal mortality down **18%** - Horse fodder imports reduced **40%**, freeing farmland for food crops - Literacy among ten-year-olds up **35%**—thanks to the Rolling Academy

King Aldwin leaned back, eyes shimmering. "Numbers make the song real," he murmured.

Yet one figure weighed heavier: **9%** unemployment among former stable hands in regions slow to adopt retraining. Elina tapped the parchment. "Success must widen until even its shadows vanish."

Thus the **Mobility Dividend Fund** doubled: every cycle sale now contributed two silver cogs—one for road upkeep, one for vocational grants. Garrick volunteered as traveling instructor, teaching former grooms rim-trueing and chain-tuning. Unemployment dipped within months.

At year's end a quiet ceremony gathered inventors, teachers, miners, and the bard Jeren. Sharath presented a plaque carved from Grey Shale maple, inlaid with brass letters:

> *When Wheels Turn, We Rise Together*

The plaque hung in Riverbend's entry hall, visible to every worker starting a shift. Beneath it, a blank ledger waited for new metrics—proofs that the song of spokes kept harmony with the lives it touched.

Sharath closed the chapter on bicycles not with finality but with foundations laid: a culture humming, children racing toward lessons, women steering destinies, common folk shaping prosperity, and rulers measuring triumph not by gold alone but by the better heartbeat of a kingdom in motion.
