Chapter 192 - Chapter 194: The Dirty Child

Milisen also showed a look of dislike.

"It's so dirty here, Amir!"

"It's entirely urbanized, but without any greenery, it ends up looking like this."

Although Coruscant was heavily urbanized as the economic and political center of the galaxy, it didn't host heavily polluting factories on its surface. Industries that severely harmed the environment had been moved to surrounding planets long ago.

"Planets covered in plants are better. The air is clear, and we can go for picnics!" Milisen said wistfully.

Of course, the emphasis was on the picnic.

The area near the spaceport was relatively prosperous, with ships coming and going and voices buzzing, but the people here were far less composed than those at the great spaceports of Coruscant.

They looked around vigilantly, sizing up everything. It was unclear if they were guarding against others, or if they were the ones others needed to guard against.

Milisen was very uncomfortable with these scrutinizing gazes. 32 had already followed Amir's lead and pulled up a large hood, blocking the view of others.

Eventually, Milisen also pulled up the hood of the robe Amir had prepared for her.

With this, the three of them thoroughly blended in. They looked just like criminals hiding their identities to conduct some shady business.

The reality wasn't far off.

Amir was still on the Imperial wanted list. However, few people knew his face, and the Empire possessed very little data on him, so he hadn't encountered any bounty hunters coveting his head recently.

The only one who had recognized him, Din Djarin, had smartly given up on that bounty.

Currently, Amir was a walking pile of credits in the eyes of every bounty hunter. Once his appearance was confirmed, trouble would follow. So, in these chaotic places, Amir always wrapped himself up tight.

Amir didn't have much interest in this planet, so he didn't plan to explore it along the way.

However, a row of stalls by the roadside attracted his attention.

Just walking out of the port, Amir was hooked by a scent. He looked down and met Milisen's eyes; both of them had a glint in their gaze.

This smell... we have to see what it is!

The two were of one mind in this regard.

32, standing aside, watched the two exchange a look and nod as if they had reached some secret agreement, then march off in a certain direction.

There were many small stalls here with tables and chairs set up beside them. Many people were resting and replenishing their energy.

Near the port, the foot traffic was heavy. Although there were high-end restaurants, few wealthy people passed through here. Bounty hunters and smugglers were tight on money most of the time, so making do with a meal by the roadside was standard. Plus, in an open-air environment, one could sometimes overhear good intelligence if luck was on their side.

Amir and Milisen twitched their noses, navigating through the chaos and grease until they finally found the source of the aroma.

Upon approaching, Amir found that this stall was much quieter and cleaner than the surrounding ones.

Amir's eyes lit up. Not only did it smell good, but it also looked much more appetizing than the other places.

The owner was a burly man, muscles rippling all over his body. Wearing a black tank top, he was grilling skewers of meat on an iron plate. Beside him were several poultry-like creatures that had just been dressed and were marinating.

"Boss, give us twenty skewers!" Amir stepped forward to ask the price, while Milisen stood on tiptoes to look at the meat on the grill.

Although the owner didn't talk much, he was quite patient. When Amir asked him about the seasoning formula, he answered every question.

The meat skewers weren't expensive. Amir took a credit chip from the backpack on his chest.

The owner's eyes flashed over Amir's backpack for a second before he handed the grilled meat to Amir and Milisen.

In this mixed bag of a place, Imperial credits could barely be spent. Many passing merchants were willing to accept them because they frequently did business within Imperial jurisdiction.

Finally, the two, mouths slick with grease, continued walking forward with 32.

Soon, Amir noticed the environment changing. In every corner of the street, pairs of eyes gleaming with cold light could be seen. The locals here were not very friendly to outsiders.

Many people leaned weakly against the walls, showing signs of severe malnutrition and poor health.

"We've reached the slums," Amir said helplessly, looking at the surroundings.

On this moon, wealth had long been monopolized by a small minority. These unemployed poor had no source of income. They couldn't even find a piece of land to farm for self-sufficiency on this metal-covered world; they could only starve.

If they were lucky, they could find some temporary hard labor to earn a meal, but their frail bodies meant they were never the first choice.

A large portion of them took risks out of desperation, turning to theft and robbery. One had to be extremely careful when passing through the slums; every pair of eyes around might be digging into your coin purse.

Milisen had already eaten half of her ten skewers when she suddenly saw a dirty child, about five or six years old, hiding in a corner of the wall. The child was secretly staring at her hand, involuntarily swallowing saliva.

She couldn't eat anymore.

Amir also noticed the child.

Milisen looked at Amir pleadingly.

"Go ahead."

Hearing this, Milisen happily ran to the child and handed him the three remaining skewers in her hand.

The child looked at Milisen in disbelief, then snatched the meat and ran directly into the depths of the alley.

Milisen was stunned for a moment. She didn't get angry, but when she walked back, she looked unhappy.

"He didn't even say thank you before leaving!" Milisen held it in for a while but couldn't help complaining to Amir.

"Why did you want to share food with him?" Amir asked.

Milisen said without hesitation, "He looked very hungry, and so thin and small. He was pitiful."

"Then that's the right reason. You didn't reach out to get his thanks; you did what you wanted to do—you helped him."

"Besides, there is a reason for his behavior. On a planet like this, in a city like this, there are very few truly kind people. If you hand him something, he might think you have designs on him. Such vigilance isn't a bad thing for them. If a bad person brought him food and he gave them his trust, he might face imprisonment, attacks, or be kidnapped and trained to become a tool for someone's profit."

Although it sounded a bit vague, Milisen roughly understood what Amir meant, and her mood improved.

"Will you still help them in the future?" Amir asked with a smile.

"I will," Milisen replied with a smile.

That was the right way. Even if there is no reward, one should treat the world with kindness.

Of course, the necessary vigilance could not be lacking.

Amir already sensed that the atmosphere around them was wrong.

Some people were subtly surrounding the three of them. It seemed that after observing them along the way, some people had discussed the results and were ready to make a move.
