Chapter 2 - The rain

Newspaper article. There have been several murders in Tokyo of Japan. We believe these murders to be by a serial killer who had a reason for the murders. What leads us to that conclusion is the fact that every victim knew the next.

Doctor: I guess this makes sense, but what if a person hired people to do the murders. Shin looks like an innocent person.

Doctor's wife: Honey, don't worry too much, just go to sleep.

Doctor: Yeah, I guess you're right honey. Good night.

Meanwhile in the hospital Shin is staring out at the rainy night. Cars passing, rain pouring, a calm mood overall. Shin starts talking to himself.

Shin: I like to empathize with my patients. That's right, today I ate lunch with my new patient. I am here sleeping in this bed, because I am empathizing with my patients. I wonder how he's doing. That doesn't matter. I'm thirsty.

Shin gets up from his bed barefoot, and walks around the hospital, trying to find the cafeteria. He doesn't remember where it was. After a while he finds it, and he just sits on one of the tables.

Nurse: Excuse me, can I help you.

Shin: P-please, water.

Nurse: Alright, wait here.

The nurse walks to a water cooler, fills a glass of cold water and brings it to Shin. Shin grabs the glass, gets up and throws the cold water in a trash can near the water cooler. He fills up the glass with hot water. He then goes back and sits at the table. The nurse sits at the table too.

Shin: Sorry, I prefer hot water.

Nurse: Why didn't you just get the water yourself in the first place?

Shin: I didn't see the water cooler was there. Sorry.

Nurse: It's no problem.

Shin: Are you being nice because you think I am mentally ill? Don't worry, I assure you I'm normal. At least I think I am. Please treat me normally.

Nurse: Of course. No problem.

Shin: I'm sorry but could you take me to my room? I don't remember where it is.

Nurse: Which patient are you?

Shin: My name is Shin Nilvine.

The lights turn off and the nurse suddently faints. Shin gets out of the cafeteria with a cold look on his face, unusual from his normal expression. He wanders around the hospital, trying to find his room. He finds his room, and goes to sleep. The next morning he wakes up and the first thing he sees is the doctor.

Doctor: Good morning.

Shin: Hello Shin Nilvine. Any luck with remembering something?

Doctor: What's happening Shin? Are you okay?

Shin: I see, you've gone insane. You think you're the doctor. It's fine, relax. We will get through this. Together.

The doctor is shocked. Shin was acting completely normal the first day, but in the second day he has gone insane.

Doctor: Well then, tell me doctor, how was your morning?

Shin: I slept in this room. Because I empathize with my patients. Then I got up and met my patient. We pretended to switch roles because I try to empathize with my patients. That's right. I'm a doctor...

Shin just freezes like a statue. At that moment not a single thought crossed his mind. Meanwhile the doctor's brain was exploding with thoughts. It was like Shin was sending his thoughts to another brain. Pure silence and chaos at the same time. At that moment the doctor got a call.

Doctor: Wait a minute. I have to pick this up.

The doctor leaves the room, and the person who called him, the detective was waiting outside. The doctor hangs up the call, since the detective wad infront of him.

Detective: So, how was he today. Did he confess?

Doctor: No, he thinks that he's the doctor and that I am a patient. It's like he's going insane.

Detective: He definetely has a mental illness.

Doctor: I refused to believe it, he was normal. But there's something going on that boy's head.

Detective: Well I hope you don't mind but I got another case to attend to.

Doctor: Allright. Bye.

Detective: Bye.

The detective slowly walks away and the doctor enters Shin's room. Shin is just lost staring outside the window.

Doctor: So, feeling any better?

Shin: Excuse me?

Doctor: Well you were acting weird earlier.

Shin: But I just woke up doc? Are you also mentally ill?

Doctor: Of course not. Otherwise I'd be a patient just like you wouldn't I.

Shin: Yeah, I guess...

Suddently the room goes silent. The doctor has nothing to say. Neither does Shin. The doctor tries to think of a joke to lighten up the mood but he can't really think of anything.

Shin: Man I wish it was raining.

Doctor: Why?

Shin: Oh, did I say that out loud? I'm sorry.

Doctor: Why would you want it to rain?

Shin: Well, it's just so calm, the loud noise of the drops, your clothes getting wet, the sky going dark, it's just overall a beauty of nature.

Doctor: Yeah, I guess, but why does the beauty of nature have to be dark? Why should it not be a sunny day, where birds are chirping and flowers are blooming?

Shin: I don't know. I guess I just enjoy the rain more.

Doctor: You know, that tiny preference can change a lot about a person. Anyways I'm going to eat lunch. You coming?

Shin: No, I'm not hungry.

The doctor goes to eat. The nurse died...
