Chapter 3 - A Sudden Fog

"May we find a savior one day who shall bring us to light once again," a group of survivors walk through the streets of a ruined city carrying religious books and wearing holy robes as they are followed by men and women wearing masks covering their entire face with a bright white. Surrounding them are heavily armored guards wearing armor that looks holy in nature; some wield hammers others swords. Naseem walks towards them as he enters the city, the guards watching him. "Be not afraid and come from your holes to follow us and be safe under the guidance of the divine." As if possessed by the one shouting, people begin to walk out of the ruined buildings as the group stops at a damaged intersection. "We shall guide and protect you all until the time is right for us to be brought to the light."

Naseem shrugs as he walks past them walking into a destroyed hospital. As he walks around he eventually finds two corpses who both look to have died very recently. He picks the bodies up and lays them in a corner of the room slowly. After he sets them down he finds a chair leaned against a door and puts it down facing away from the bodies. "May your souls be resting well, wherever they may be now," as he takes one last look he gently sits down and begins to wait for the fog to roll through.

Hours pass and Naseem can still hear shouts about a divine and the light saving people. Bored, he looks out a window that faces the street and sees that the group is still at the intersection but no longer seems to be growing. A woman wearing elegant robes walks out of the group as the rest of them watch. She is followed soon thereafter by an average looking man and then the one who has been shouting comes out as well. "Kneel before the one sent to us by the divine and allow her to bless you," the man shouts again as the woman moves a staff holding it up into the air as the sun shines onto it.

Naseem feels a growing warmth from the outside as the sound of flowing water can be heard yet there is no water, only the light and the staff. Eventually the light seems to flow and move around the woman and the man who kneels before her flowing faster and faster until it suddenly stops and the man falls to the ground. The woman kneels down and rests her hand and his shoulder and seconds later the man stands. "He has been deemed worthy and has been blessed by our divine."

Naseem looks away shaking his head as he sits back in the chair. The shouts can still be heard until a shriek bursts through the crowd, quickly followed by the groaning of corpses. "So it's a sudden formation then," Naseem stands and watches as some people flee from the group and others stay within the guards as they slowly start to move again heading out of the city.

The fog expands through the city and Naseem watches as buildings are filled until the fog flows into the hospital and groans begin to break out within the building. As he hears the groans of the two corpses within his room he quickly grabs a bed flipping it to pin the corpses down as he covers the windows in the room with flames along with the door. As the room fills with fog his vision grows blurry but he keeps his focus keeping the fire walls up. The sound of corpses hitting the ground is heard as different corpses begin to get into Naseem's face. Quickly he punches and kicks the first few back before hacking at some with his axe. One is decapitated and as the others get up again it stays motionless on the ground.

"Fire mage drops your flames it looks like you could use assistance!" someone shouts an order at Naseem as he throws corpses out of the windows before they reanimate once again. The sound of gunshots can be heard outside. "Watch your ass Sandeep!" the same voice shouts at someone outside. "Drop the flames and I can come in there and help you!"

As Naseem continues to dispatch the corpses it grows overwhelming as he is unable to get enough corpses out before they reanimate again. "Fine but I ask you not kill the two corpses that are stuck," he drops the flame walls and he hears gunshots and footsteps enter the building.

Less corpses enter Naseem's vision as the fog seems to get denser. "Commander the fog's aggression is growing!" a man yells as gunshots continue to ring out and the sound of bullet casing hitting the ground is heard.

A woman appears in front of Naseem. "You look capable, put this on now!" the woman hands him a mask before quickly disappearing in the fog. Naseem looks at the mask for a second before putting it on.

"Adewale throw me some extra ammunition!" Naseem's vision begins to clear after he wears the mask for a few seconds. Everything around him looks clear even though the fog is actively surrounding him.

"Wayra you got two behind you!" the sound of shifting earth is heard followed by the crashing and cracking of rocks.

Naseem looks around the room seeing corpses stand again as the chaos continues to fill his ears. He grabs his axe and swings at the corpses watching them crumple down to the ground lifeless, just for them to stand again in just a few seconds.

"I'm empty, do you have any extra ammunition Agata!?"

"I'm empty as well! Use your knife and find our mages!"

Naseem looks back seeing the two corpses laying stuck struggling to get free and the gunfire begins to lessen.

"Shit!"

As Naseem watches another corpse stand again the mask is removed from his face and a loud groan can be heard outside as the fog begins to dissipate.

"G-Class!"

Naseem looks over at the two trapped corpses as he quickly hacks at the last corpse in the room. He moves the bed off the two and hops out the window watching as they stumble after him. As he reaches the street watching the corpses follow him he looks over seeing a giant conglomeration of corpses recklessly throw its arms of corpses around while a group of ten slice at it with knives and three magicians fire ice rocks and water at it.

"Don't get distracted just cause it's weakened outside of the fog!" the one that looks like a commander shouts as they continue to fight.

Naseem looks away and continues to lead the two corpses away, quickly dispatching any corpses that get in his way. Eventually they exit the city and he begins to lead them towards the community he found.
