Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 Shocking Revelation

The enforcer raised it's gun slowly as if it was trying to intimidate Drex. The weapon hummed with a high pitched whine, it glowed faintly outlining the structure of the tunnel as it charged.

"I gave you the chance to live." The machine said as it tilted it head, then he added coldly, "You misused it… Now, die"

Pzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeooooow!

A red streak of energy escaped the barrel of the gun as it shot towards Drex, he quickly rolled to the left avoiding the beam. But even at that he was still burned by the energy around it.

Boom!

The ground behind him was ripped apart by the red streak and smoke rose up. A red flare also rose lighting up the tunnel.

Drex sucked in cold breath as he wiped the sweat off his forehead, if he was hit by that he would have been dead, there wouldn't even be a body to bury. He might be disintegrated.

But Instead of chickening out, he picked himself up as he stood before the enforcer, "Come on! Is that your best shot?" He coughed as he taunted it, "You can't even aim straight, I thought you machines were supposed to be perfect."

The enforcer didn't reply, it didn't even flinch at his taunting. It's metal feet clicked against the ground as he turned to Drex. It's glowing sensor eyes locked on Drex again.

"Shit this is bad!"

Pzzzzzzeeeeoooow!

Another laser blast shot through the air again, this was closer than the last. Drex nimbly leapt sideways again, landing hard on the ground. But something was wrong.

Hitting his hand against the cold floor he quickly stood up and jumped back.

Boom!

If he had just been a second slower, he would be dead, he didn't even notice when the second shot was fired. The enforcer was fast, terrifyingly fast.

He quickly look up again to see it getting ready to fire, he quickly jumped back but that was a grave mistake. The machine had calculated his move, The first shot was data collection, the second shot was a test. By the third, it already knew.

As Drex moved to dodge, the enforcer tracked the arc of his movement, its processor adjusting in milliseconds. It didn't shot at Drex, instead he shot at where Drex was going to be.

BOOOOM!

The shot slammed into Drex midair, right into his chest.

He didn't even scream, his body just twitched violently as he was blasted back like a ragdoll. He crashed into the wall behind him and a loud metallic sound rang out.

Silence.

Drex body lay limply against the curve of the tunnel wall, unmoving. Smoke rose from his chest,

The enforcer walked forward calmly, he was surprised that Drex body still remained even after he was shot.

The hiss of gas escaped its joint, releasing steam with each step as it finally stopped before Drex. It had no reason to believed Drex was still alive. The weapon he shot carried an energy disruptor cannon, it was capable of piercing through metal plating and nothing organic was supposed to survive it.

It reached down with it's massive hand and grab the body before him by the shirt, lifting him like he had no weight.

But then...

Drex's eyes snapped open.

"Surprise, motherfucker," he whispered.

Before the enforcer could even process what was going on Drex's hand snatched the gun off it's hand.

He didn't wait, he pointed the gun at the enforcers face.

Then….

BOOOOM!

The blast at close range was catastrophic. The enforcers head jerked backwards violently as the shot connected. The enforcers was sent flying back by the explosion, its hand frailing as its body crashed on the far end of the wall.

Smoke rose from its helmet like head as its body twitched mechanically for a second before it went completely still.

Whirls and Clicks faded.

It's red eyes also dimmed and vanished with it.

Drex stumbled forward towards the wreckage. Pain radiated from his chest as he rubbed the armor beneath his cloth.

He couldn't believe that it actually worked, it was just a prototype. Not tested at all, if he could get this information to his people down there and make sure that they escape then they could stand a chance against the machines for the first time in decades.

He leaned closer on the machine and looked trough the melting metal and whiting.

And what he saw nearly made him fall backwards.

"F-Flesh."

It was flesh under the metal, it was disfigured yeah. But it was undoubtedly human flesh.

His eyes widened, his heart beat frantically as he stared in horror.

"What the hell….."

The machine wasn't just machine.

It used to be one of them.
