"Are you okay?" Rayane asked
"I am fine", a husky manly voice responded.
He slowly pushed himself up from the bed, dark hair falling slightly over his eyes.
"But I have one question." He said quietly. "Why did you change my appearance?" the black headed man asked.
As Jacob was about to answer, the stoic protector spoke.
"The objective was not to wake her up immediately," he said. "It was for her to remember what feeling safe… and deeply loved… was"
"And maybe avoid her container drying out" Jacob added.
He leaned forward and began disconnecting the thin conduits linking him to the resonance table, the faint lights along its surface dimming as the connection faded.
A small silence settled between them.
"I know you miss her"
The dark-haired man looked away. Without replying, he reached for his white shirt and pulled it over the strong frame of his soldier's body.
"I also want her to be safe," he added as he was about to leave the protector's room.
But a brown headed young woman with short hair appeared asking him to stay for 5 more minutes so that she could check on him.
"Where do you think you are going colonel?" She asked, blocking his way from the door.
"You are aware of the protocol, right?"
"But I am feeling good, the one who needs to be checked is silver hair over there", he said pointing at Jacob from the back with his thumb.
"Silver boy has a name you guy", Jacob insisted as he got up from his electronic chair, catching his black shirt from Rayane.
"Well, the fact that you are the youngest makes us want to tease you a little"
"What do you mean the youngest, what about Katherine, where is she?"
"With her parents, helping for the funerals" she said
"I might as well go and help them, see you" The kernel said quietly, already moving toward the door.
"You won't stop him?" Rayane asked
"Not this time, if I see him unwell during the ceremony I'll just intervene", Amelia responded as she went to Jacob to start checking on him.
"As her sister's protector you should leave as well, don't you think?" She added.
Her eyes slowly shifted from brown to a pale green as she scanned the possessed man with a healer's focus and took his pulse at the same time.
"You seem alright this time, you didn't use that much energy" she said after finishing her scan.
"This machine does work after all" She added as she hastily started writing on her notes.
"I know, your fiancé really is a genius, can I leave now?" Jacob asked
"Yes, you can." She confirmed as she was laser focused on her tablet.
"Oh, and for your information Valentina might be with Arnold in the library" She added
"Thanks for the info" he carelessly added as he waved to her.
She smirked, then looked at her tablet another time.
The wallpaper was a group photo of her and her friends, every single person mentioned.
