As I slowly wake up I realize it's quiet, almost too quiet. I was used to the constant noise of kids. The silence felt wrong. I slowly look up to realize I'm on a bed, a comfortable I might add. I almost fell right back to sleep from how comfy I was.
I looked around to see a small room with 3 beds, stools of medical tools and posters of the human anatomy on the wall, shelves of equipment and pills, covering the poorly painted walls but from the silence of the room I figured I was alone.
I tried to change my positioning yet the moment I did, a burning pain came from my head and torso, I let out an audible grunt. Then a voice appeared from my right.
"I'd suggest not moving, it would probably do more damage than good." a feminine voice advised.
I looked to my right to see this girl on a way better bed than I was, she was connected to lots of tubes and wires going through her chest and wrist. Her hair was an amazing brunette, her skin was pale. She did look pretty sad though.
"Oh, uh… didn't realize someone else was here." I apologised.
She was staring at me, but she had greyish bandages covering her eyes, how did she even know I was here? She kept staring at me with a serious look on her face, after a bit she began to chuckle?
I didn't know what to say, she just laughed — soft at first, then louder, sharp and dry like she hadn't done it in years. She calmed herself down.
Either she was insane, or I was still half concussed, how about that for first impressions ain't I right? She let out a big sigh of breath.
"Thank you Vathra." she muttered with the least amount of breath she had inside her, I just stared at her confused. "You're welcome, now tell me how you know my name."
I asked. She stared at me confused, then she said "Your Soul told me silly"
And as if she couldn't get any more insane, maybe she's one of those voodoo people, I hope not… "By the soul? Really? The soul?" I doubted.
"Yeah the soul why? You do have a Guidance right?" she asked.
"Yeah.. void. Wait, do you have one..?" I questioned.
"Mhm, my Method is called 'Insightful Truth'. Lets me talk to souls for a bit — they can't lie, but the longer I listen, the weirder it gets." she explained.
I looked at her with surprise on my face and I asked her "Anyones secrets?".
Abyss Method: Insightful Truth :- (*This Method allows the user to communicate with the soul of the selected target for a short period of time. All information coming from the soul is purely truth and is incapable of speaking lies. The longer the user speaks with the soul, the more tired they become and the more encrypted the soul speaks, this does not interfere with the first rule of the soul only speaking truth.)
"Well of course not all secrets, just ones the soul wouldn't mind sharing with me, like crushes or weird hobbies stuff like that you know?" she explained to me. I had a moment of relief but still probably should be cautious next to her. I
A moment of silence stood between us, she was staring into oblivion while I was thinking of something to say. Well, I guess asking what her name was could help.
"So since you know my name, it's only fair you tell me yours" I asked her. She stared at me for a bit and answered with-
"It's Kathrine, Katherine Alvene, well it's actually Kathkrinee in Abyssal but I mostly use my Midranth name which is Kathrine.".
I responded with "Abyssal? As in the Guidance or is that a place too?."
"The Realm I mean… Speaking of which, what region are you from?" she asked.
I stared at her for a long while, I thought for a bit and I realized… "I don't know. All I know is that 3 men found me crying outside the orphanage with a scar on my forehead and a cloth over me.
They didn't know what to do with me. My parents didn't even leave me a damn note, I barely know what I'm supposed to become one day, but all I know is that I hope they are happy without me"
She stared at me with sympathy for a bit. I realized how angry I sounded when ranting about them. I just wanted to know who I was, I barely knew anything about myself or my origin.
All the children here have parents even if they're dead or still alive, they know that they exist unlike me. I looked back at her and she was still staring at me, she was thinking, she must think i'm insane.
She stood up, and untied one of the wires that was connected to her wrist. She sat next to me and gazed at my eyes. I wondered what was under those bandages.
After looking at me she looked at my hands and grabbed both of them with both of hers, this is getting weird. Still looking at my hands she began to whisper…
"Abyssal Method: Soul Shift."
My head began to feel heavy, my body was numb, my eyes were closing themselves and the last thing I could hear was her whispering
"I don't know if this will work, but I'm sure this will help with finding your past."
Abyss Method: Soul Shift :- (*Transport both the user and the target to a realm connected directly to the target's soul, when in this realm allows them to figure out questions and solutions more clearly. In rare cases, it allows people to figure out pieces of their past that they have forgotten. This realm can cause insanity the more a person dwells within it, the realm will look, sound, smell and feel different depending on how "pure" the target's soul is.)
When i woke up, my eyes opened only to see an empty dark void that had nothing within it, from the ground to the very sky or what i thought was the sky was just—
Pitch black. The air was thin, almost non-existent.
There was no noise, no smell and every breath I took felt overpowering. Yet now that I think about it, even my thoughts felt… different? Almost like a narrator was talking, but it was me, it seemed much louder and clearer.
I remembered what happened before, Katherine, this was Katherine's method, she said something about finding my past?
I slowly looked around for an answer, yet I slowly began feeling that this…
This was my Soul.
My eyes widened, slowly realizing how empty it was for a soul.
I wondered why it was so empty, are all souls like this? Or was i just—
Hollow?
A small thwoop noise came from behind me, I quickly turned around to see a person…
A person like no other, bandages were wrapped around his arms and legs, his chest was covered with shredded cloth and his face was unlike anything I've seen before… his head resembled a–
Black hole?
Curiously, I thought talking to him would help me get out of here—
"Hello? Who are you?"
Nothing came from him.
"Umm— M-My names Vathra and I… I think you're my soul?"
No response.
He didn't want to talk or maybe he couldn't. My vision was dampened, I could see him clearly.
Looking at me he took a singular step, my body flinched. Knowing it could move made things a whole lot more eerie, my heart beating faster, my body ever so slightly shaking.
He began walking towards me, he wasn't fast yet that didn't stop him. Before he even reached me he spoke two words, two words that I won't forget.
"Forsake Me."
His hand reached for his back, what seemed to be a long sharp blade appeared in his hands. It didn't even have a hilt, it was just a long sharp piece of sharp metal, and without a drop of hesitation, it ran towards me.
I wanted to run, yet I couldn't. My body just gave up, I could barely even breathe let alone think clearly…
And before I knew it…
He was right next to me… Looking down at me. And with me looking up…
The blade he held pierced my throat.
It was complete silence, not even the drops of blood made a sound nor the blade entering my neck,
I couldn't feel it, yet it felt so—
Real.
"Vathra? Vathra?! Wake up damnit." I hear a familiar voice entering my ears, echoing in my head.
As I slowly gain my sanity back I gasp for air the moment I wake up. My eyes were tearing, my nose was runny, like I was sick for days. My body felt stiff, and my hands couldn't stop shaking. Katherine was looking at me with worry, like she just saw a corpse…
"How long… Was I awake?" I asked, coughing out my breath.
Katherine was still looking at me with horror before snapping out of her thoughts,
"Uh-Uhm, about an hour." She muttered, I'm glad it wasn't that long. But she seemed very worried.
The infirmary door opened, Me and Katherine looked back at it. A nurse with a white thin coat, a mask covering her mouth and white gloves entered the room, she seemed partly stressed. She looked at me, letting out a breath with her lowering her mask.
"Thank goodness." she whispered before running to me, she slowly sat me up before asking me..
"How do you feel?" with her hand behind my back for support and her eyes targeted at my injuries.
"Just uncomfortable…" I utter. I didn't really feel any dire pain, I just felt very heavy.
"Any pain points I should know?" she asked with her lifting my arm to check for signs of injury.
I look back at her with amusement, it was kinda nice having all this attention. "I'm fine, I just feel… iffy that's all." I was assured.
She looked at me with confusion, before coming to her senses. She looked back at Katherine and she looked back, she probably thought she was gonna get scolded.
But it did make me wonder who was that in my soul. Was that really even my soul? Was that just a mere illusion? Why did he focus on killing me, and why did he seem…
Familiar?
