Ruth moaned in ecstasy, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she murmured intermittently:
"I've always worried about what would happen if we got caught in bed together... If it were Lily or the girls, I'd be confident I could talk them around."
"But... if it were your father-in-law, I'm afraid he'd fly into a rage and blow everything up. If word got out, we'd be ruined."
"So, I figured I'd do him this favor. If that day ever comes, at least I'll have some leverage to stand my ground."
So that was it. Luis hadn't really understood his mother-in-law's reasoning before.
If it ever came to light, since a mother-in-law sleeping with her son-in-law was far more scandalous, he wasn't entirely sure of her logic, but he could respect it.
Maybe it was a form of self-comfort. Or maybe by legitimizing Suzanne's relationship, others would sympathize with Ruth, and it would push Arthur further away from this side of the family.
